Yes hi I’d like to buy a bus ticket to Cincinatti, also where can I find a bulletproof vest that will fit a gorilla?

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Just stop the dumbass kid from climbing over the railing. No vest needed.

Stop the dumbass mom from letting her toddler wander off by himself right next to a fucking gorilla enclosure

AFC1886VCC , to asklemmy in What were or are your thoughts on the US Pres. Debate?

I’m not American so my opinion doesn’t matter, but anyways…

Harris obviously better than the deranged lunatic Trump. I don’t think much more needs to be said on that.

Harris is still a liberal/centrist though and I’m a leftist so I disagree with many parts of her platform.

Maybe Fedora?

Personally, though, I’m a Debian guy - Testing on my desktop and stable with Flatpaks and a few backports on my laptop.

JTskulk , to nostupidquestions in Is linux actually gaming ready or is it just not for me?

I’ve been gaming on EndeavourOS for over a year now and have had the opposite experience. All my games work great in Steam with Proton. Granted I don’t play modern AAA shooters or League of Legends which goes out of their way to use bad anticheat that doesn’t support Linux. Only one time I had a game not start right away and all I had to do was install .Net for it or something which was also very easy.

ubergeek77 , to asklemmy in How do you say "[you have the] wrong number" in your language?
@ubergeek77@lemmy.ubergeek77.chat avatar

I’m really curious to learn how you get calls in so many different languages. I could definitely see Spanish, English, and maybe Vietnamese all being spoken in a general geographic area, but you listed a lot of diverse languages. Pretty cool if that’s really all within one area!

rhythmisaprancer , to nostupidquestions in What jobs in the US (Kentucky) Allow employees to wear whatever you want?
@rhythmisaprancer@moist.catsweat.com avatar

There are lot of federal jobs that are very lenient on dress. Not public facing? Sometimes lot of options! Public facing? Might have to wear a uniform but the ability to have visible tattoos and piercings is pretty high. Also options for getting into the public sector without a college degree.

cheers_queers ,

i work custodial in a public school district, and basically the dress code is “no sweats, no holes in jeans, no spaghetti straps.” i dye my super gay hair, have visible tattoos, and a facial piercing. i have had 0 comments on any of it except compliments.

also the pay and benefits are pretty great for entry level jobs

56_ , to asklemmy in What is the goto source for free-as-in-freedom information about growing plants and helpful diagnostics info?

trefle.io has data from various sources, though a lot of pages are rather empty.

someguy3 , to nostupidquestions in how do I accept that a doctor earns more than double what I do?

Only double? Honestly I would have thought more.

We live in a world where most jobs compensation is determined by the difficulty of the program. Medical doctor is very hard to get into and hard to do. Sounds like the problem now is that he’s lazy. Don’t get me wrong, nursing is hard work. But that’s how the cookie crumbles.

yogthos , (edited ) to asklemmy in What were or are your thoughts on the US Pres. Debate?
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

Completely and utterly masturbatory. The reality is that the US is extremely polarized politically because the living standards are collapsing. There are basically two competing narratives for why that’s happening, and people subscribe to one or the other. The democrats and republicans have fundamentally different world views, so nobody is going to be swayed by the debate. People subscribing to each respective view will hear what they want to hear.

People who will vote for Harris are the ones who think that the dems have been doing a good job for the past three and a half years, meanwhile people who aren’t happy with the way things are going will vote against them or stay home. It’s that simple.

anarcho_blinkenist ,

The democrats and republicans have fundamentally different world views

Correction: the democrats and republicans have fundamentally different standards of decorum and of how close they can be to the stench of the consequences of their highly similar world views without turning away.

yogthos ,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

Fair, it’s more that each one sees themselves as being an antithesis of the other.

My ten year old dumb tv died recently. I got a samsung smart tv and just never connected the internet, like everyone is suggesting. I have my playstation and an old laptop with kodi plugged into it. I personally hate smart tvs (even without internet, it’s still more annoying than old tvs) but this works well enough.

Edit: the Samsung tv remote works with my Playstation, too, and I could probably set it up with my computer but I like using the wireless mouse and keyboard.

davel , to asklemmy in Is there a place I can give review/rating to any random object or service?
@davel@lemmy.ml avatar

It appears that the dead website that @rotmulaaginskyrim mentioned was not much more sophisticated than what @sub_ubi suggested, “federated reviews”.
web.archive.org/web/…/www.exitreviews.com/

Nothing is stopping you from creating a Lemmy community for general product/service reviews, but I doubt it would work very well nor be very popular. But ActivityPub-based federated reviews sounds like an intriguing idea. I don’t know if/how ActivityPub can handle structured fields (web.archive.org/web/20220608160103/…/submission), and you’d probably want a search system that leverages those fields.

r00ty Admin , to explainlikeimfive in ELI5 How come it seems now the old wise tale of Vietnamese eating pets and now its immigrants into the USA?
r00ty avatar

Nothing to do with pets, but in Korea there are places that serve dog. At least it was the case when I was there 20+ years ago. But, of course they're not pets, they're farmed like any other livestock I would expect, and these places were not exactly commonplace even then, so maybe now they're just not a thing? I've not really looked into it.

Now, saying "x" people eat pets is likely just what others have said, a slur used against whichever subset of people is the target of the month. Maybe it once had roots in facts like those I've mentioned, but they're far removed from them now.

No, I did not partake in eating dog.
