Tinkerer , to selfhosted in Server Access Log Admin Dashboard?

I’m currently looking for something like this as well. I’ll have to give go access a try

Lem453 , (edited ) to selfhosted in Vaultwarden has such a steep learning curve

Vaultwarden itself is actually one of the easiest docker apps to deploy…if you already have the foundation of your home lab setup correctly.

The foundation has a steep learning curve.

Domain name, dynamic DNS update, port forwarding, reverse proxy. Not easy to get all this working perfectly but once it does you can use the same foundation to install any app. If you already had the foundation working, additional apps take only a few minutes.

Want ebooks? Calibre takes 10 mins. Want link archiving? Linkwarden takes 10 mins

And on and on

The foundation of your server makes a huge difference. Well worth getting it right at the start and then building on it.

I use this setup: youtu.be/liV3c9m_OX8

Local only websites that use https (Vaultwarden) and then external websites that also use https (jellyfin).

alexisonzen ,

As a non-technical person at the bottom of the learning curve, I can vouch for its steepness.

I’ve been using and reasonably satisfied with A.R.M. github.com/…/automatic-ripping-machine

It uses MakeMKV and Handbrake, but streamlines the whole process.

LeFantome , to linux in Goldilocks distro?

Sounds like you want EndeavourOS.

Installs in a few minutes to a fully configured and usable desktop environment of your choice. It is Arch ( uses the same packages, uses the same kernel, has access to the AUR ). A huge benefit of the Arch repos is the up-to-date package universe as well everything you are likely to want being in the repo or AUR.

Don’t underestimate the maintenance and reliability benefits of not having to cobble stuff together from multiple sources.

nul9o9 ,

EndeavourOS was my 3rd repo and has been my go-to ever sense.

Thebeardedsinglemalt , (edited ) to asklemmy in What were or are your thoughts on the US Pres. Debate?

Didn’t watch it, but the headlines, posts and memes are prime choice so far!

But one thing I haven’t seen mentiones yet is something I only stumbled upon when a browser was showing headline snippets. Harris outright said that both she and Walz are gun owners, they’re not “taking anyone’s guns” and outright told that orange turd to stop with his blatant lies. As a blue gun owner…then fills me with joy.

Hasn’t Debian relaxed its stance and now allows you to fairly easily use nonfree software?

linearchaos ,

Yes this meme is dated. You can run proprietary stuff in bookworm with just a couple of jack boxes.

VindictiveJudge , (edited )
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, but it’s significantly less automatic. Testing distros on an old laptop, Debian wouldn’t support the network card out of the box and I had to use USB tethering from my phone to get the necessary drivers off the internet. Ubuntu just had them in the image and installed them automatically.

oo1 ,

yes, I think the main thing is when the nonfree firmware was included (user can opt-out) as a default at install. So out of the box support for most common hardware became way better.

It was always pretty easy to add nonfree repositories, but having to manually sort out wifi firmware after an install was a pain.

Olgratin_Magmatoe , (edited ) to asklemmy in What were or are your thoughts on the US Pres. Debate?

Predictably, it was a shit show. Trump was doing his normal routine of batshit crazy stupidity. Harris was level headed and sensible, minus the bit about the “most lethal army” and pro fracking stuff. It’s mind boggling to me that to think that it will sway votes. How could you possible look at these options and change your mind only after the debate? But at the same time I know it doesn’t matter, I know that there are still people who will somehow be swayed.

But KeePass with rsync is easier for passwords. I just use termux on my phone

jws_shadotak , to asklemmy in Is there a place I can give review/rating to any random object or service?

There used to be a website called exitreviews.com but it redirects to looria.com now, which is an actual company and I can’t tell if there’s bias or not.

It used to be intended for reviewing any product (usually upon failure).
