For RDL/stiff legged deadlifts you should only have a slight bend in the knee and focus on moving your ass back during the eccentric instead of letting your knees get forward. It’s a great exercise that will primarily load your hamstrings and glutes, which is why every* girl you see in the gym are doing them. Glutes and hamstring are part of a normal leg day.

For a deadlift you knees will have a greater bend and move slightly forward which puts your body in a better position for maximal force output. You can load it a lot heavier and you’re putting more tension on your quads. Deadlifts isn’t as much of a leg exercise as it is a “your entire posterior chain” exercise.

*not every, just a whole lot

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Deadlift is a “deadlift day” exercise

Genuinely surprised you haven’t heard about HDR before.

It’s not needed for office work, but for media consumption it has been a big thing for at least half a decade at this point. I’m not sure you’ll find a modern TV that doesn’t support it at this point.

Microsoft announces a disc-less Xbox Series X console in white (www.theverge.com)

The new console option won’t include a disc drive, and will be entirely all-digital. Inside it’s identical to the Xbox Series X, with the same performance for existing Xbox games. This new white model will be available with 1TB of storage later this year, priced at $449.99....

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

“adorable all-digital” console as they called it in the internal email.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

You got to take that up with the Microsoft executive who wrote it. It’s physical media, so Microsoft has less control over it, which they clearly don’t like.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Have you tried talking to the mods over at r/soccer how they have set up their match threads? I think they are pulling live updates from ESPN.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Just a few hours away from returning back to the dirt in the ground surely?

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

The fact Microsoft keeps re-enabling features users are disabling isn’t something to just ignore. Imagine if they were the silently turn on a feature like Recall.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I was mostly referring to the search bar and I’ve seen multiple people report Microsoft updates reverting settings.

https://programming.dev/pictrs/image/91f41100-6b10-42d5-a3ee-b80a8ae89fa0.jpegHere’s all of Switzerland’s high level nuclear waste for the last 45 years. It solid pellets. You could fit the entire world’s US’ waste on a football field.

It’s not the greatest challenge mankind have faced.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I don’t think solution for storage would be a problem if politicians had more of a backbone with deciding a place for storage, and I frankly don’t see a future without fossil fuels where nuclear doesn’t play a key role. All of the US’ nuclear waste could fit on a football field 3 meters tall. We got space for it.

As for energy security. Canada is a massive producer, and NexGen Energy is sitting on a massive deposit. Most utilities store ~4 years of material on site, and the fact it’s so easily stored for many years is why Japan invested heavily in it in all those years ago. I don’t think access to uranium is much of a concern.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I’m speaking strictly of the mass. Most the volume on those containers are likely structure to make sure there is no accidental leak, similar to Switzerland.

I also misremembered, it was all of US’ waste that could fit on a single football.

A social app for creatives, Cara grew from 40k to 650k users in a week because artists are fed up with Meta’s AI policies | TechCrunch (techcrunch.com)

Artists have finally had enough with Meta’s predatory AI policies, but Meta’s loss is Cara’s gain. An artist-run, anti-AI social platform, Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users within the last week, catapulting it to the top of the App Store charts....

Capthchas haven’t worked against serious actors for years and companies could easily pay for a user account. Anything a normal tech illiterate person can do, companies can automate. You sort of have to trust their pinky promise of not scraping content.

This is one of the parts GOG are doing way worse than Steam. Even with a 1GB limit I still have to constantly remove save files from Pathfinder WotR to make it fit inside the cloud sync. 200MB is ridiculously small.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

When it’s configured by the devs they can set limit appropriate to their game’s save file. Pathfinder got massive save files (there’s even mods to try to reduce the size) compared to most other games, especially linear ones. It seems like GOG is setting a global limit

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Should probably have been more clear that it’s extremely small for pathfinder. And since GOG is setting a global limit and they are selling pathfinder on their storefront, their global limit is too small.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

While I do agree that Owlcat could do a better job with their save file system, from the point of view of the consumers it shouldn’t be their problem. If GOG sell their games and offer cloud sync, they should provide adequate amount of space. Storage is relatively cheap.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I think you misunderstood me, I never claimed that excessive file size can’t be a problem for the end user. I was saying that in regards to cloud save, large file sizes shouldn’t be a problem for the end user. It’s a problem GOG should take up with the developers they allow selling on their storefront with GOG’s advertised feature set.

I’d like to challenge you on that edit of yours though. On an SSD the time it takes to load a save file into memory is negligible, and in almost all cases less than the game assets the game loads up when you start a game. The complexity of the game world is the dominant factor.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Any healthy adult human could though. An old friend of mine accidently killed a cat with a single kick while “defending” his cat that was being attacked (I wasn’t there so don’t ask how). He was ~14 years old at the time. At the end of the day, humans are large animals, most of just don’t want to hurt other creatures so we restrain ourselves.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Sadly, not all humans have. You still talking about cats?

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

A gram per pound is overshooting it quite a bit unless you’re a vegan not minding your protein quality intake. The maximum effective protein intake is ~1.6g/kg (0.72g/lbs), more than that will just go to “waste” (energy/energy storage). If you’re steroids the limit is higher, but there’s currently no exact number on it.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

It’s a shame it requires a PSN account. I got an account, but making it a requirement is deal breaker in my eyes. Hopefully it will find it’s way on to GOG one day, plenty of other of activities to do in the meantime.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

With the way image quality have gone down the drain on consoles thanks to DRS and FSR, I honestly can’t imagine spending money on hardware I don’t have control over those variables.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Looked up Bloodywood (thanks for the recommendation!) and after a few songs got recommended this Māori thrash metal band, figured you might be interested too.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I remember seeing that video recommended, though I generally ignore videos that have exaggerated expressions in their thumbnail. I guess I’ll give the video a watch, though the obvious answer is Sweden, which I say begrudgingly as a Norwegian.

Data needed to display your content is shared, “personal” data such as your IP address is only visible for your own instance though.

That’s because X means absolutely nothing. It’s a letter commonly used to fill in blanks. It’s an awful name for any company/brand.

Does a VPN used on a smartphone with Wi-Fi disabled (mobile data only enabled) provide any sort of protection?

I’ve never completely understood this, but I think the answer would probably be “no,” although I’m not sure. Usually when I leave the house I turn off wifi and just use mobile data (this is a habit from my pre-VPN days), although I guess I should probably just keep it on since using strange Wi-Fi with a VPN is ok (unless...

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

What sort of protection are you after? Your VPN should encrypt your data to make it more difficult to snoop on your activity. I wouldn’t trust any random WiFi hot-spot just because you got a VPN encrypting your traffic though.

I’m pretty sure demons are simply chaotic evil creatures of the Abyss while daemons are neutral evil creatures of Abaddon.

Better than Steam I’d argue. Unlike Steam, games you buy on GOG are yours to keep forever. No DRM like steam that forces you to log on after a few days offline. You also get better version control.

Edit: the offline limit was a bug. Offline restrictions would be dependent on the DRM solution for each individual game.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

After digging into it, it seems like the 2 week limit was a bug that has been fixed by steam. So there is no Steam enforced limit, it’s up to each game’s DRM to enforce restrictions. Steam can function as DRM with a simple command during upload, but it’s rather basic and Valve recommends publishers to use additional DRM for more serious protection.

GOG on the other hand is DRM free as a core policy so you’re guaranteed no restrictions.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Gave Newell is 60+ years old and haven’t exactly taken the most care for his own health. We don’t know what will happen once he is gone.

With GOG there is nothing a change of leadership can do to your existing game library.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I’m aware, however it’s not as transparent and Steam does not provide the same guarantees that GOG do.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

R and rust are two completely different languages…

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

My apologies then, I thought you were shortening rust to R by mistake

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I do believe nuclear power will always stay a unique exception to this, it’s extremely tightly regulated on an international level due to the fear of nuclear bombs. It’s far safer and better for the environment than coal plants or natural gas, which do poison the environment without much corruption needed to enable it.

The nuclear power industry is a whole different beast than what the California tech bros are used to.
