From outlining and drafting to querying to debates to marketing information, we have tons to offer.
I keep dusting off a story I originally started as a short when I was in high school. I’ve rewritten the easiest completed parts a couple of times, and continue to add to it over time. I was fully planning on diving in to finally finish it this summer. Now I’m thinking once again about putting it on the back burner. I’ve got 2 competing ideas floating in my heads. One I know I can wait on. The other is what’s intriguing me. /thread #writingcommunity#authorsofmastodon
I wrote My New Roommate thinking it would be a stand alone story. I was already working on my next book when I started getting positive private feedback about the character of Lauren. As soon as I could I gave her a story of her own, The Challenges of being me. The plots of these 2 books overlap a lot, but told from different POVs. There’s a third character I’d like to focus on - April. She is the new roommate after all. /thread #writingcommunity#authorsofmastodon
Ultimately, after the third book is out I’d like to go back to edit all of the stories together chronologically. Above the chapter numbers I’ll put the names - Tyler, Lauren, or April. Right now the world is building faster in my head than I can write. I have a major concern about the third book, and ultimately the compilation of all 3 into 1. /thread #writingcommunity#authorsofmastodon
My New Roommate is a #NewAdult book, and has some heavy and graphic sex scenes, including with April. The Challenges of Being Me is #youngadult and Lauren is very wholesome, which she also was in the first book. April’s story will have to be sex-heavy too, as that was a plot point of the first book. In your opinion, is it ok to have 1 #YA story sandwiched between 2 more explicit stories? #writingcommunity#authorsofmastodon@bookstodon@mastodonbooks
Diving into the concept of jivanmukta (living liberation) for my first Coop Dharma newsletter (reader supported, sliding scale at https://chickenyogi.com/coop-dharma ) Looking forward to diving into this topic and seeing how it applies to neurodivergence.
Wifey had an old episode on of #SVU where Stabler goes undercover to buy a hooker. Right when a cash exchange is made his team comes in to arrest her. I think it would’ve been more entertaining if she was also undercover from a different department and tried to arrest him. That would be an entertaining #storyidea to expand into a book: 2 undercover cops unknown to each other try to arrest each other. Know if any books like this? #storyideas#writingcommunity#authorsofmastodon@bookstodon
One of the things we did "back in the day" (say early 2000's) was have author groups where maybe 5-10 authors were in a group, we had a website, a newsletter, I guess now there'd be social media presence, and we each agreed to promote the group in each others' newsletters .... I suppose that's out of fashion, but just thinking I'd love to get more 👀 on my books.
I like to keep my stories grounded in real life….for the most part. My books can be considered “plausible reality.” The stories are certainly fiction, but I hope you as a reader can go “hmph, yea I could see that happening.” #writingcommunity#writinglife#author#authorsofmastodon@bookstodon#amwriting
Lately I’m finding myself creating 1 or 2 great chapters in my outline for my next book. It’s those other chapters bringing everything together that I’m still working on. At the same time I’m also finding myself adding more details to the great chapters. I guess my overthinking is why it takes so long for me to release books. #writingcommunity#authorsofmastodon#author#amwriting@bookstodon
I am in need of authors to interview for #WriteTalkWednesday. This is a LIVE event that happens at 6pm central on Wednesdays, then gets uploaded as a video and a podcast a day or so later.
Happy to talk writing genre fiction, neurodivergent authors, writing life balance, whatever as long as it's related to writing and publishing.
I have a question for #bookstodon I've been thinking about writing #cozy#mysteries
in line with the genres I already write. However, I write for fun and for my "happy place", I'm wondering if there has to be a murder in a cozy mystery or if I could deal with other crimes and if they can be written without all the frenetic/zany side characters? Is that a different mystery subgenre?
Finally getting back to writing Book 5 of The Silk Rope Masters. It's slowly coming together - all those green lines mean I'm happy with the chapter for the time being.
I had hoped it would have been completed by now but Cancer stuffed up my progress. I'm still trying to get used to the many side effects from radiation and drug therapy.
As someone new to the #solarpunk genre, I'm wondering if someone would be interested in reading a ~3000-3500 word short story that is solarpunk x my own contemporary fantasy/rural fantasy world of Musimagium
Just curious if I was close to the mark with this. I was going to submit it to an anthology, but decided against it.
My goal is to have it finished by the end of the month.
What apps/websites/etc. does everyone use to track short story submissions? I used to use a spreadsheet, but suspect there may be better tools out there?
Time to continue meeting The Silk Rope Masters, book 3 - Ash.
A natural born Dom, Ash Siddiqi, 53, head Master, confirmed bachelor & co-owner is happy not to have a relationship with any woman.
But when he saw Sophie Laurent, Ash was caught. Unfortunately it appears Sophie dislikes him. Now he has to think of a way to change her mind before she’s out of his life forever.
If I've written a novella set a "high school" level academy, but the character is older than her classmates due to health issues keeping her out of school (so she's 17 and her classmates are 14/15)

I’ve dusted off an old abandoned #WIP that’s I’ve had sitting for years (ok decades). I started this story when I was in high school, forgot about it till I found the original papers about 10 years ago. Since then I’ve slowly added to it, but was never my primary focus. I think it’s finally time to finish this story. #writingcommunity#bookstodon#author#AuthorLife#authorsofmastodon#amwriting@bookstodon
