Further proof of Grizzly being the peak of human performance.

Better than Steam I’d argue. Unlike Steam, games you buy on GOG are yours to keep forever. No DRM like steam that forces you to log on after a few days offline. You also get better version control.

Edit: the offline limit was a bug. Offline restrictions would be dependent on the DRM solution for each individual game.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

After digging into it, it seems like the 2 week limit was a bug that has been fixed by steam. So there is no Steam enforced limit, it’s up to each game’s DRM to enforce restrictions. Steam can function as DRM with a simple command during upload, but it’s rather basic and Valve recommends publishers to use additional DRM for more serious protection.

GOG on the other hand is DRM free as a core policy so you’re guaranteed no restrictions.

Gave Newell is 60+ years old and haven’t exactly taken the most care for his own health. We don’t know what will happen once he is gone.

With GOG there is nothing a change of leadership can do to your existing game library.

R and rust are two completely different languages…

There are regulations in place, and nuclear power plants do not leave toxic waste around them? They aren’t like coal plants that simply dump the waste into the air.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Got any sources for that happening in that domain? I doubt there are many politicians of the old guard that are comfortable relaxing nuclear power regulations.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I appreciate the link, it’s hard to trust what people say nowadays as their hate for societal structures makes them all regurgitate the same sentences without regard for context or nuance.

Your source however didn’t touch on regulations being breached or removed by corrupt politicians. They only spoke about attempts of siphoning money from the public.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I do believe nuclear power will always stay a unique exception to this, it’s extremely tightly regulated on an international level due to the fear of nuclear bombs. It’s far safer and better for the environment than coal plants or natural gas, which do poison the environment without much corruption needed to enable it.

The nuclear power industry is a whole different beast than what the California tech bros are used to.

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

Oracle can see the source code or the binary?

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

What’s weird about the whole incident is that anyone with even the slightest knowledge of the PC gaming space could have told you that this is exactly what would happen.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Actually the jury is still out on if oxidane is 100% lethal or not. A definite conclusion is expected to arrive ~at the end of anthropocene epoch.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

The original intent seems to be the opposite. It was supposed to stop men from divorcing and avoiding financial responsibility of the child, it’s in the article.

It’s an awful rule even with that in mind though.

I don’t know much about how USA/Missouri was in 1970, but I’ll assume there was/is a lot of laws based around marriage as that was the norm for families back in the days. Might be as simple as the lawmakers being lazy and deciding it was easier to force people to stay married for the duration so they got the full legal framework as “protection”.

After years of being told I was part Cherokee, someone was mad that I wasn't. (lemmy.world)

He is now denying the validity of dna tests. I don’t want to say the past 35 years of having him treat me worse than he treats his sister had anything to do with his assumptions of my dna, but he was upset to learn that I am more Irish than him. I wonder what he thought of my mother before these results…

Curious on how they separate between Norway and “Sweden & Denmark”. Seems like an odd grouping as arguably Norway have closer ties to both Sweden and Denmark than they do together.

Assuming it’s real, how could such a record be anywhere close to acceptable? I can’t remember anyone injuring themselves throughout every lab project I had in high school and university.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

That sounds genuinely shocking to me, in what country? Do you not have supervisors for the high school students? At uni you shouldn’t need much supervision, but for teenagers that’s mandatory.

In what bizzaro world did the witcher series fail to live up to expectations? The first one was a masterclass of atmosphere and had zero expectations, the second were just fine and the third one still is the gold standard for quest design in open world games.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Buggy like most ambitious open world games, but still perfectly playable. It certainly lived up to expectations, it was one of the most praised games of its time, more than what I’ve seen about BG3. Granted I don’t follow the industry as closely as I did back then.

Just because you didn’t like 1 and 2 doesn’t mean they didn’t live up to expectations. CDPR was nobody before witcher 1 and a small studio before 2, so I really don’t get how they didn’t live up to expectations for those two games.

The lake is actually ~99% on Norwegian territory, it’s just a tiny edge on the end that’s given to Sweden and Finland. We once tried to give Finland a mountain peak though (for their 100th anniversary of independence from Russia), but the constitution states the kingdom is indivisible so the legal work was deemed too much. It would have been their highest peak if it went through.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I feel like it’s hard to truly comprehend the scale of pictures like this. They always make the world look so small.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Never played/watched the first, but based on the protagonist it looks like a story sequel?

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

The new generation? I remember this stuff happening 15 years ago. People were camping outside before big game releases and had an incentive to ensure they got a copy of the game. The new generation that only buys digital is not to blame for the practice taking hold.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Fastest route from south of Norway to north of Norway would be through Sweden and take you 1 day and 6 hours, if you want to stay in Norway for the whole route it would take you 1 day and 11 hours. Driving to Rome would be faster.

https://i.imgur.com/qPXeDeN.png

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

https://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/figures/elevation-map-of-europe/europeelevation.eps/image_large Norway is basically just mountains and fjords so the roads are seldom straight.

This is the landscape you will be mostly driving through https://norway.nordicvisitor.com/images/1/norway/road-in-norway-1.jpg

And the further north you get the worse the road conditions will be, not to mention parts of the “highway” up there goes through the towns with lower speed limit. People up north likes to joke about the infrastructure being bad up there just to slow down Russia if they ever decide to invade.

On the plus side, it’s a beautiful road trip to make. Much more enjoyable than driving down south near the capital where it’s less mountainous but better highway.

I’d also like to point out that 29 hours is 1 day and 5 hours, so not that far off from the fastest route if you go through Sweden.

Eight space indentation should be crime, I’m not made out screen width over here.

If you want to be strict with indentation, use tabs as your standard instead of forcing others to use your preferred visual width.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

It’s a shame, but people are asking for it when they buy, and therefore support, these kind of games. If people simply refused to buy always-online games, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Larian doesn’t lock your save files to an online server. You can jump into appdata and save scum manually even in honour mode.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Nothing stops you from busting your games on other platforms when available. I always choose GOG over steam personally. What cut they take from publishers isn’t consumers’ concern.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

They aren’t exclusionary.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I think Phil like most executives prioritise whatever they think will be best for their career, regardless of what their preference is

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Wrath of the righteous runs pretty poorly in my experience, no really playable without a graphic cards. Kingmaker works better though

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

“ignoring the major players in the industry”

UE5 had turned into the standard whether you like it or not. I personally don’t like the engine, but that doesn’t mean I’ll lie about its position in the market, and neither should you. You aren’t doing Godot any favours with it

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Your preference doesn’t dictate what’s industry standard is my point. It would be like someone only playing exclusively Total War games claiming the Warscape Engine is industry standard, sounds pretty stupid doesn’t it.

The last AAA game I bought was Fallen Order,

A shame you missed out on Baldurs Gate 3 then. Alan Wake also got great criticism.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Lol, alright dude

Sega sells off Relic Entertainment, will axe 240 jobs (www.gamedeveloper.com)

Canada-based studio Relic Entertainment, which recently released Company of Heroes 3, did receive some good news in the midst of these layoffs. The company announced on X (formerly Twitter) that it is becoming an independent studio thanks to the help of “an external investor” who went unnamed.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Eh, CA pretty much aced their DLC strategy for warhammer 2. It’s with Warhammer 3 that they fell of a cliff. And three kingdoms barely got any DLC before getting cancelled.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

It’s the highest grossing media franchise of all time, what sort of question is this?

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

The irony…

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I guess people just have different preferences. To me, the chaos of DoS turned rather monotone. You could get rich by betting that every combat encounter would end with half the map on fire. It was a real issue that Larian fixed in bg3 thankfully.

And have you payed pathfinder wrath of the righteous? In my opinion, the combat experience is better than DoS 2 and bg3. I will say that I enjoyed the freedom of movement in DoS 2 though, it made positioning a core part of the combat.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Environmental flatness isn’t really tied to the game mechanics/rules though. Larian are just using a better engine with a larger budget than their competitors
