For context, there’s a spam wave where that is one of the keywords consistent in the posts. Instance admins may choose to automate the removal of users posting those keywords.

Steam deck is just a PC going through a few hoops though.

Would have to be either the switch for Mario Kart, Super Smash and Nintendo sports when family is visiting or PS3 for FIFA World Cup 2010 when the lads are visiting. I suspect the switch would age better, though 2010 World Cup is an absolute gem.

I don’t think the single player game selection matters that much as it would grow stale with time anyway.

Since Microsoft has access to your entire windows system, there’s no harm letting every other company have it too then?

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

new trend?

I remember articles posted on r/hardware where the source of the article was r/hardware. It’s been going on for years.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

That headline is doing him dirty. Makes it sound like he is annoyed about the opposite.

The actual tweet the article is about:

Pisses me off that people say Gears went “wOkE”.

These culture wars are out of control. If Gears 3 came out today they’d say the same thing about it – the cast was diverse AF and we had strong, non-sexualized female soldiers.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

With “woke claims”, in my head it sounded like he was ranting against accusations made by “the woke”.

Looking forward to the day I can just copy paste the Silmarillion into a program and have it spit out a 20 hour long movie.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

The mistake was fixed within 24 hours and it was released during after hours when no stock trading is technically supposed to happen. It’s on you if you trade outside of the official trading hours. There are also laws protecting companies from being punished for having wrong forward looking statements. The guy in charge of the earnings presentation got fired though, so there’s that.

How does employing a rapist not constitute an unsafe work environment for female employees?

So I just discovered that I have been working next to the waste of oxygen that raped my best friend several years ago. I work in a manufacturing environment and I know that you can’t fire someone just for being a sex offender unless it directly interferes with work duties (in the US). But despite it being a primarily male...

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

From a Norwegian point of view, once someone has served their time, they’ve served their time and should be encouraged to get back into society. Freezing people out of society will only cause harm, and push them towards anti social behavior.

The US model of punishing criminals is clearly proving to do more harm than good, so why would you push for that model even further?

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

If the person wasn’t convicted for rape, at what grounds should the company fire the person on, rumours?

And I don’t think you can compare it to child molesters not being allowed to work with children. Women are ~50% of the workforce, you’ll interact with them in nearly every work scenario. Your only option would be isolate a sizeable percentage of people from most jobs, with all the ramifications such a move would have.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I agree that legal systems around the globe are not able to effectly convict rapists, but that doesn’t mean companies should be able to fire a person based on rumours. Though for the record, in this instance OP mentioned that the person was convicted for his crimes.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

In what way is it different from murder or non sexual assault? They’re all inexcusable, and the offender should be locked up for x amount of time for rehabilitation. Around 4-16% of men in US college(seriously, wtf) commit sexual assault, you can’t just brush them under a carpet hope it all sorts out.

Social isolation sounds like the worst possible solution if you want to stop repeat offences. Rather, they should learn how healthy social interactions work and where the line of personal space is drawn.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

People will claim that you’re wrong, but you’re 100% correct. It’s always 50-50. You either win, or you don’t.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

My comment is clearly sarcastic…

“Substitute user do”, most commonly used on Linux to run your command as superuser (think admin mode on Windows)

Get a paid email service, it costs next to nothing and you retain your privacy. Free services hosted by commercial entities are free for a reason.

I’m sure Russia that can’t even conquer Ukraine is more than capable of going to war against rest of NATO /s

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Latvia is part of both NATO and EU, most of Europe would be forced to react.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Eh, I might ask the LLM about something, but I always open it sources to verify it summaries. You still can’t trust them fully.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I still want to know the source of what I’m being told. There are plenty of brains out there smarter than mine, I’ll still ask for sources.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Admins are actively looking into solutions, nobody wants that stuff stored on their server, and there’s a bunch of legal stuff you must do when it happens.

One of the problems is the cost of compute power for running programs detecting CSAM in pictures before uploading, making it not viable for many instances. Lemmy.world is moving towards only allowing images hosted via whitelisted sites I think.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Be diligent with reporting, and consider switching instance if your admins aren’t really active.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Any reports you make are visible to the admins of your instance.

E.g. if you make a report, the community mods may choose to ignore it while your admins choose to remove it for everyone using their instance.

Everything you see on Lemmy is through the eyes of your instance, people of other instances may see different stuff. E.g. some instances censor certain slurs, but that doesn’t affect users outside that instance. (de)federations also dictates what comments you will see on a post.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

It goes to the community mods too yeah. But when it comes to spam/scams that is being posted, admins (at least on programming.dev) will remove it immediately and not wait for community moderators. Spammers will usually spam multiple communities at once and only admins have the capability of banning users entirely from the site/their instance.

A few days ago a person created multiple accounts and spammed scat content across multiple communities. Moderators can’t effectively stop those kind of things.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

People aren’t talking about convictions, but about actual murders. The fact that murder rates are higher in poorer areas is nothing new.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I’ve never made any claim. I only tried to clarify that people aren’t talking about conviction rate as you were alluding to in your original comment. I appreciate you backing up your claims with sources by default though, although commenting in an antagonistic manner isn’t really conductive for healthy discussions.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Sorry, there just such a strong undercurrent of racism in a lot of comments that it’s upsetting.

That’s understandable

Have a great day!

You too mate

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

And now that MS is talking about putting their experiences on other platforms, people are upset with them? That they’ve somehow lost their way, that the brand is dying?

Those people are “invested” in the xbox eco system I would assume

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I think he was referring to people angry or disappointed by Microsoft’s move

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Say whatever you want about Microsoft, but they don’t mess around with backwards compatibility.

That’s 13cm shorter than the average in the Netherlands. Never been in the Netherlands, but even in Norway where the average is 181cm, 170cm is definitely on the short end. In the US the average is only 177 so it’s not really short over the pond though.

I was initially thinking of adding “but who really cares about height in real life though?”, but then I remembered that height discrimination goes beyond women in the dating scene and is a serious issue.

Glad to see an european country taking steps to counteract the trend of larger cars.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

That’s generally how the economy works, unless you’re in a recession…

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

It’s formatted similar to spam/scam bots would be my guess.

I opened the post primarily to check if it was another spam bot I had to ban from site. Honestly though, why are all your comments deleted?

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

I can imagine Rocksteady could have made a solid game in the vein of the Arkham series if WB execs with zero competence didn’t interfere. A real waste of talent.

To be fair, it may not be something that comes up during a normal conversation. It’s really none of our business what other people’s preference in the bedroom is, so it isn’t something most people pry about.

I lived under the same roof (uni dormitory with 5 others) with a person for 3 years without knowing she was bisexual. It was only because she mentioned a female name in a subsentence about a tinder date that I found out about it. Unless they got a partner or you’re really close to them, it may just be something you never find out about, so you just assume they’re straight.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

Never? All the executions that happened from the Nuremberg trials were wrong then?

I’m personally not shedding a tear for Quisling, nor would I have shed one if Anders Breivik had shared his fate.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,

The state should not be involved in murder.

The state exists due to its right to exercise violence and murder to impose its laws. USA exists due to the violence and killings it made to become independent, and it’s not alone in that origin story.

The US government were involved with at least 467 murders of civilians in Iraq in 2023 alone. Almost all governments with militaries are involved with murder one way or another, putting the line at convicted criminals seems like an arbitrary ethical line to me.

I’m against capital punishment myself, but that mostly due to the issues of cost and the court’s inability to make correct judgments 100% of the time.
