Any response other than “I already have” or “I donate resources” paints you as an armchair hypocrite who doesn’t have the credentials to understand, let alone have an opinion about this conflict.

You my friend, are the one who is adorable.

I like the idea of an infinitely exponentially growing base of users seeking help from some poor call center

Seasoned_Greetings ,

People here seem to be mistaking stupidity as a measure of intelligence. Stupidity is a measure of wisdom.

An abundance of information doesn’t fix stupidity in the same way that shoveling water out of a boat with a leak won’t stop it from sinking.

You have to address the leak before shoveling water becomes productive. Or to circle back around, you have to address how someone learns, parses, and applies information before feeding them more information becomes productive.

You can die of cirrhosis from drinking too much for too long, but it’s still culturally held as a stress reliever. You can die from diabetes if you eat too much sugar for too long, but it’s still sold to children as edible happiness. Hell, you can die slowly and painfully from taking too much Tylenol, but it’s still the world’s most popular painkiller by far.

Too much of anything kills eventually. That doesn’t bare any significance to whether or not it’s good for stress in some amount.

A social app for creatives, Cara grew from 40k to 650k users in a week because artists are fed up with Meta’s AI policies | TechCrunch (techcrunch.com)

Artists have finally had enough with Meta’s predatory AI policies, but Meta’s loss is Cara’s gain. An artist-run, anti-AI social platform, Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users within the last week, catapulting it to the top of the App Store charts....

Every time something gets objectively worse there are always people who say “Jokes on them I don’t use that!” and miss the point.

Like yeah, we get it. It’s only a matter of time until this kind of bullshit reaches something you do use. You should still be bothered by this.

I just had the mental image of a scaled up front end loader about the size of Rhode Island pushing an ungodly amount of material around. So thanks for that

There is at least an entire sub dedicated to hating on pit bulls. I think multiple subs. During its time a few years ago, one specific sub could make it to the top of r/all with 10,000+ upvotes.

Reddit really doesn’t like pit bulls.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Dude, thanks for posting this.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Yes. Our country is run by geriatrics who, among other things related to modern society, legislate on technology they don’t understand. We need younger members with more flexible minds who have at least spent some part of their younger lives dealing with problems we have a modern variation of today.

But especially SCOTUS members. Any kind of term limit on them would be better than what we have.

Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )

In Louisiana, we have a super majority republican congress, bought republican judges, and a republican governor for the first time in 8 years. We are in a phase of revenge passing whatever right wing bills they can get away with because we no longer have a Democrat governor to turn away the ridiculous crap.

Our legislature absolutely will write in Christianity as the “correct” religion, and our governor is in the process of rewriting our constitution for a few reasons, one of which could very well be naming Christianity.

It’s going to take more than a challenge from tst to fix this one… We are deteriorating faster than Texas because Republicans are passing bills out of spite.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

The beauty of being here on lemmy is that I genuinely can’t tell whether you said this because you’re far right or because you’re far left

Stupid opinion either way. That Ai is going to catch its share of r/conservative idiots and be a nice blend of ignorance

Bernie doesn’t do a ton of grandstanding. He’s also one of the only senators who introduces bills that get bipartisan support sometimes. I really don’t think he’s introducing a bill he means to go nowhere

This is incredibly disingenuous. The US might not be a true democracy, but it’s not an authoritarian regime. Xi and putin disappear people who have an opinion on whether they should be forever-rulers.

The fact that independent parties exist and hold seats at all three levels of government mean you are fundamentally wrong in saying there are only two choices.

The US is a flawed democracy. That’s still better than an authoritarian regime.

How come liberals dont hate conservatives the way conservatives hate liberals

I constantly see angry mobs of people decrying “woke”, “critical race theory”, ““grooming””, and whatever other nonsense they made up this week. They march around with guns, constantly appending lib as a prefix to any word they can use to denigrate. They actively plot violence and spew hatred in the open....

Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )

Politics is fundamentally different for conservatives. They have to have someone to hate. It’s drilled into them by their media outlets.

The tactic is a form of fear based control that conservative media has been working on since Nixon, and made into effect with the birth of Fox News in 1996.

Seriously. Nixon’s think tank conceived the conservative media outlet as a catch-all, exclusive source of news that as a primary function would steer conservatives to not trust other news sources.

They did this because they did not want another Watergate, where conservatives turned against Nixon because of hard evidence laid out by popular unbiased news, which at the time conservatives still were informed by.

The Frankenstein’s monster of a party that that tactic has turned conservatives into requires manufactured rage to fuel the fire. If the outrage ever simmers, you begin to see smarter conservatives recognizing what their party has become and it begins to fall apart.

So there’s your answer. It’s because the hate is necessary to continue the control. If you don’t believe me, turn on Fox news. There’s always the manufactured rage-of-the-day filling the air time.

Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )

most of the time for no reason at all

Not for no reason. It’s a form of control. If you genuinely believe that the opposing party is going to bring the country to ruin, you’re a lot less likely to consider their position in politics.

Look at the affordable care act. Conservatives hated/hate it because “obamacare” was portrayed as giving free health care to the lazy poor that you have to pay for as a hard working conservative. When asked if we should repeal Obamacare, conservatives poll something crazy like 95% yes, simply because it’s a bad word they learned.

Many of those conservatives have health care through the ACA and get mad when Republicans take it away because they need it. Those same conservatives mostly aren’t even aware that what they have is literally obamacare.

It’s control all the way down.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

If only they actually would die on that hill. They won’t, because they’ve conditioned their base to support them no matter what. Instead, they’ll rot the hill and move on to the next once the one they’re on can’t be salvaged.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

On the topic of “Do I have to identify myself” or “Do I have to sign the ticket”:

The default option is jail. A cop can put you in jail for any reason if he determines you might be breaking the law. It’s literally their job. Agreeing to be identified gives them a reason to let you go, agreeing to appear in court of your own will for an infraction gives them a reason to not hold you until a forced court date.

I’m of the party that you should only cooperate the bare minimum with the police and I believe they have too much power as it is. But don’t refuse to identify yourself and don’t refuse to sign a ticket. Not unless you want a tour of the county jail.

It’s the only card he’s still holding that means anything to the western nations he’s in a proxy war with.

Nobody wants a nuclear war, which is why he’s betting on western nations erring on the side of caution when he does shit like this.

Is it fair to say that the overton window is only moving right when we are still making progress moving it left?

The overton window isn’t a zero-sum measure. It can expand simultaneously in both directions. Given that we have nazis in the street now, I’d say it’s not correct to say that it’s moving only left either.

Quiet quitting has always referred to the extra bullshit that employers pressure employees into doing.

In America we’ve fallen into this work culture that implies you aren’t really part of a team unless you are constantly putting forth more than what the employer is paying you for.

The undertone of this headline is that managers feel uneasy because so-called “quiet quitters” won’t take on extra work or unpaid hours or exhibit overwhelming enthusiasm, but just do literally what they have to at a passable or high quality.

The gaslighting part is that those workers aren’t doing anything wrong, but they aren’t bending over backwards for their employers, so corporate America wants to paint the picture that those workers are awful time thieves instead of just burnt out wage slaves.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Oh absolutely. In Japan for example if you are unable to work or you get removed from your career, it is socially understandable for you to consider suicide. Lots of Japanese citizens put their job before even their families or the potential of having a family.

It’s actually pretty fuckin crazy what Japanese work culture does to their citizens.

The paradox of tolerance applied to this situation suggests that in order to keep a community where choice is preserved, we need to be intolerant of bad actors with the ultimate goal of killing that choice.

Meta absolutely is a bad actor looking to Embrace, Extend, Extinguish the fediverse.

They’re pivoting the overwhelming userbase of Facebook/Instagram into a sort of federated Twitter alternative that their users as a whole don’t understand but do generate content for, in an attempt to steer the federation architecture into something they can control and make money off of. It’s not subtle.

Whether it will work or is even possible for meta to do remains to be seen.

But, yes. To answer your question, we need to “deny the choice” of federating with what amounts to a wolf in sheep’s clothing to preserve what we have, because that wolf is looking to destroy it.

This post demonstrates that all of the major instances on lemmy but one understand this concept. If lemmy.world doesn’t want to acknowledge what meta is doing, then they’re also a bad actor in enabling meta to do it.

In addition to the other great points in this thread, Apple has a cost barrier that other operating systems don’t.

In an economic climate where everything is getting more expensive, a consumer isn’t going to fork out $800+ on a MacBook or an iPhone without first actively wanting to be part of the ecosystem, especially if the hardware they have gets the job done.

The reason Apple isn’t growing as fast as it’s competitors right now is exactly that. Apple is expensive to get into. No amount of enshitification on other OS’s is going to change that.

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

For people who consider this a sign of social status

    Ok well,

    1. Anyone who considers apple products a status symbol already has bought in and won’t be swayed one way or the other by windows becoming worse.
    2. Anyone who actually understands technology knows that regardless of how many different apps or environments apple OS’s provide, you are always operating in a closed system with the tools they allow. Whereas an operating system like android, or Linux, or (at least for now) windows, your options for the capability of a tool are limited only by what exists or what you have the capability to write.

In short, apple isn’t an OS that technologically literate people flock to as an exclusive option.

I mean, he did one better. He defined genocide in describing the explicit war crimes of Israel. I think it’s a little unreasonable to be angry that he didn’t use the term when he outright stated that Israel killed and injured 100,000, 70% of which are women and children, rendered a million people homeless and created famine conditions.

I’d be more upset if he just said “genocide” and didn’t clarify the rest like he did.

    Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )

It’s ironic that you should bring up not having nukes being dangerous because of the US, given that the entire reason Russia is upset about this is because Poland wants to use US nukes as a deterrent to the very real threat of Russian invasion.

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

Careful now, here on this communist instance you could catch a ban for speaking openly about Russian aggression

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

The truth is this is a repost of a huge number of reposts. I think I saw this for the first time like 10 years ago.

Somewhere down the line this most likely got posted to a mom group or something where it was censored and nobody bothered to uncensor it.

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

Here’s the thing: Lots of Republican leaning business owners see it as their right to retaliate against their workers without the gov intervening. So to them, the only thing they see wrong with this is the “child” part, because retaliation against children makes them look bad.

Hence the “they aren’t children” rhetoric.

By the way, this part of the bill was explicitly included by a congressman who owns some franchises and says his underage workers “don’t even want lunch breaks”.

So this is one dude trying to squeeze 20 extra hours of labor from literal children who’s dictating this for the entire state.

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

Can confirm. Louisiana is actively getting worse because our congress is in a phase of revenge passing bills that our democrat governor had been blocking for the last 8 years, now that we have a newly elected republican governor.

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

We just lost the democrat governor who has been blocking stupid bills like this for the last year. Our congress is revenge passing everything they can because the new republican governor blindly rubber stamps it all.

So yeah, a lot of these bills literally are just seeing what they can get away with.

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

I don’t know about this anymore, but back in the day Titanium Backup had a “detach from market” feature you might try. Only works on rooted phones but since you are side loading apps I’m guessing that’s a step you’ve already taken.

It has been several years and probably 8 Android versions since I used Titanium Backup but it could still be there

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

Damn. Well that was my shot

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

That’d at least be something. But republicans in my state actually are cartoonishly evil and that part is staying in so one senator can justify abusing some kids.

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

Poor people? Are we gatekeeping the internet now?

I genuinely hope this is some twisted sense of humor. Otherwise, you can fuck right off.

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

It’s hard to tell these days. There are people out there who would say this unironically

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

    No black best

This isn’t the point? That the vast majority of animals don’t have a working concept of “none” or “without” that they can form other logic and correlation with?

    Seasoned_Greetings ,

I meant that to say, it’s a genre that deserves to be distinguished from just one of the many games that define it.

As a rephrase of that comment, defining the 5 games I listed after one game that basically just came before them would be dishonest because of how different those games all are from Slay the Spire and each other. That’s why the genre is named after what they all have in common, which is a mashup of two existing genres.

What you’re proposing would be like renaming the first person shooter genre to “halo-like” or “call of duty-like” just because those games predate a lot of others and people like them. It’s unnecessary and loses the descriptive quality of the name it has.
