Because they have to. It’s decades of conservative media concealing reality finally coming to fruition.

Conservatives genuinely believe democrats are ushering in fascism, because their politicians tell them so constantly. Trump may not be pretty or even coherent, but he offers a perceived anti-establishment position in a country where corruption has clearly (to them) infected every crevice.

They see Trump as their savior. They couldn’t be further from the truth. But their media has done untold damage to them and managed to convince them over the span of about 50 years that the US is constantly on the brink of destruction.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Bravo my friend, you’ve solved the illusion of American politics. Too bad it doesn’t matter in this context

Seasoned_Greetings ,

The reason that’s never going to happen is because it would be the cause of massive profit losses for digital companies.

Capitalism makes the rules.

Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )
  1. A black market would arise. Finished with your show? Get your money back. NFTs aren’t connected to identity like that.
  2. They could never pull a stunt like what they’re doing now and make people rebuy things.
  3. Advertising opportunity would essentially fall to zero. Ever notice how ads play before and after streaming services nowadays?
  4. A subscription model wouldn’t work under this system. Subscriptions pull in a higher net than single selling products.

The current system would be overturned in its entirety by something like this, and that’s why the people making money and holding the rights aren’t going to let it happen.

It’s better for a good man to take up a morally bereft throne than for him to yield the position on principle to an equally morally bereft man.

Pope Francis may not be perfect, but the facts are that he’s still making progress considered unheard of by Vatican standards and he still leads one of the world’s biggest religious sects that very sorely needs the progress.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Oh, you sweet summer child

Fact is, Christianity is getting less bigoted. Does it matter if it’s a calculated move by the Vatican or one man using his authority to call out immorality?

Insult me all you like. The end result is the same

Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )

Ok, so a heavily bigoted organization with their fingers in governments across the globe is better to you? The Vatican isn’t going away buddy.

What you’re saying is essentially that you’d rather a completely evil and corrupt organization influencing global politics than a reasonable but still immoral and slightly more popular organization doing the same.

Either way, this argument doesn’t matter. I don’t care for catholics either. It’s a whole other thing to actively sneer at the group for adopting more tolerant policies.

Have fun with that.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

That may be true. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s markedly less likely that some gay kids are going to be bullied. Or that some homosexual couples are going to be denied a marriage certificate.

You seem to be missing the forest for the trees.

Anyway, this discussion is pointless. I’m out

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Everything is made up and the rules don’t matter, my friend

Is anyone else worried about the apple vision pro?

i wouldn’t normally be concerned since any company releasing a VR product with this price tag is obviously going to fail… but it’s apple and somehow through exquisite branding and sleek design they have managed to create something that resonated with “tech reviewers” and rich folk who can afford it....

Seasoned_Greetings ,

They’re pretty much the only company on the planet that can push the “because your friends have one” aspect in their marketing and succeed. Apple users think they’re all part of this exclusive club and really don’t care that they’re straight up being robbed by the cost.

Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )

After several years of having 4+ cats, I can confidently say that cats care about the location of a piece of furniture more than the furniture itself.

If you’re worried about your cat using a cat tree, for example, maybe try putting it next to a window or in a vantage point for their favorite room.

Every time I’ve moved my cat tree a different combination of cats would sleep on it. Right now it’s behind a door and the only one who likes it is my 8 year old torti, who hasn’t spent a day in her life on it until now. We put it there temporarily to clean the space it was previously in but we left it because she suddenly started using it.

Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )

What’s that going to do? I mean, I’m all for telling off the politicians that represent me (fucking Mike Johnson can eat a dick) but the GOP genuinely doesn’t care what their voters have to say. They locked down their vote by making it us vs them. Their own voters could tell them they’re doing horrible and they’d still get those votes without changing anything because conservatives have been successfully brainwashed into thinking democrats are all evil.

GOP politicians are in a position where they can literally just laugh in your face about a complaint like this…

Seasoned_Greetings ,

You say that like they’ll ever even see it. 100% guarantee every single one of these guys has an intern or a secretary take these messages.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Based on experience dealing with people outside the US for my job, I’d say this person is implying whatsapp as the alternative.

I personally don’t see the point from within the states, given that whatsapp forces you to connect your number to it anyway.

Grant program for Black women comes under tough questioning in key anti-DEI lawsuit (apnews.com)

A small venture capital firm faced tough questions from conservative judges Wednesday as it defended a grant program for Black women-owned businesses in a lawsuit that has become emblematic of a growing legal backlash against corporate diversity programs.

Seasoned_Greetings , (edited )

The problem with that logic is that when awards and scholarships exclusively go to white people or men, it’s because “they have the correct merit and deserve those things” and the fact that they all happen to be white and/or men gets overlooked because it’s socially accepted that white men tend to be more intelligent than other demographics.

If that fact can go without scrutiny, particularly investigation about the underlying cause of why that is, then calling out race or gender based action that seeks to correct it is hypocrisy.

If we are going to say “It’s not fair for black women to have an exclusive way to empower other black women” then we must also say “It’s not fair for white men to perpetuate the tendency of also empowering only other white men”, because that may actually be intentional by racist white men in power. But that aspect is never even looked at in the same context as something like this.

The way we acknowledge this is either by being conscious of the ratio of white men being handed awards and money or by being conscious of the fact that generational poverty exists and is causing black people, particularly black women to fall behind, and allowing groups like this to exist.

If you can’t do either, then you’re asserting that it’s ok for white men to go without even asking if what they’re doing is racist, but not black women. Which is inherently racist and sexist.

The other guy linked the answer, but I’m going to explain it anyway:

In the US, companies have the freedom to bribe lobby our congress members by giving them money that’s totally unrelated to their vote you guys. The reasoning behind that being ok is that the congress official in question is still technically free to vote however they choose despite the money given to them. The reason lobbying works is the threat that the congress person might not get that money next time if they vote against that company’s interests.

Just so you all know, because our congress members make a government salary of about 150k-250k/year, it’s surprisingly cheap (from a rich company perspective) to lobby them, with lots of payments being in the low thousands. So for obscenely wealthy companies (like intuit), it’s much cheaper to pay just enough guys off to kill a movement than for them to suffer the actual consequences of that movement.

In this case, intuit’s entire business model depends on American taxes seeming like this mysterious and unapproachable thing that Americans have to pay a third party for in order to not get thrown in jail by the IRS. And given that intuit (and companies like H&R block) rake in billions each year, it’s comparatively pennies to pay off congress officials to keep it that way.

That’s because woke really just means “when I don’t like societal pressure to be a better person because it validates other people I hate for no reason”

What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about?

Which indies did you discover and would love more people to know about? I’ll start: The Pale Beyond. Not sure if it’s a hidden gem tbh, but it’s such a good story rich game. I laughed, I cried and felt the characters struggles. If you like story rich games/ choices matter, check it out.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Oh this is a neat game I’ll just build this little gun turret and oh my god 14 hours have passed

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Dominions (Dominions 6 just came out, but it’s an iterative game so try 4 or 5 first)

So it’s like civilization and battle simulator had a baby, where armies are managed by the unit and there are simulated battles of thousands.

But all the civs are loosely based on different existing mythologies and there’s a crazy complex magic system

Oh, and you get to create a god that you can totally battle with.

If you like civ-like games, it’s a really unique and satisfying twist on the genre with an incredible amount of sheer depth.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

-Francis Wilhoit

They are exercising the out group to appease their base, nothing more. When they can’t target trans people anymore, they will move on to someone else.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Predatory interests on loans are bullshit and should be erased. The credit system was invented in 1989 to insure predatory lenders while screwing average folk out of their money. That should be erased.

But the basic concept of “we work out a deal where I pay in chunks for an amenity only a wealthy person could afford outright” is fine. It’s how society keeps itself afloat in a flawed capitalist system.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Unfortunately Texas has a really large chunk of US oil reserves. I don’t see the US letting the actual land of Texas go, let alone giving it to Mexico.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Or are they, at the very core, just greedy assholes trying to take all the benefits without contributing back?

It’s this. They are the adult equivalent of the toddler that steals the cookies and then tells the parent “I can’t be in trouble because those cookies are mine”, while blissfully unaware that you have to buy cookies and they don’t just appear on the shelf.

“Cookies” in this analogy is the societal contract. I realize that analogy may have been a little dense.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

To a racist, there’s no good colored man. The governor is appealing to the racists that make up a good chunk of his base.

FTC bans TurboTax from advertising ‘free’ services, calls it deceptive (www.cnn.com)

The Federal Trade Commission ruled in a final order and opinion Monday that TurboTax, the popular tax filing software, engaged in deceptive advertising and banned the company from advertising its services for free unless it is free for all customers....

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Answer: This very company in the ruling legally pays our politicians to sway their votes on such matters in a process called lobbying. We could have free, automatically filed taxes like the rest of the developed world, but then intuit wouldn’t be able to exploit us for money.

So yeah. “Democracy” and capitalism.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

People on reddit genuinely don’t know because the L word gets the ban hammer there

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Normally I’d agree with you, but… 6 day old account? Isn’t that a little like pulling up the ladder?

Seasoned_Greetings ,

NATO is a defense agreement. I know I’m on a Russian-apologist instance, but you guys are huffing Russian glue every time you parrot the propaganda of NATO being a threat to Russia.

By definition, NATO is only a threat to Russia if Russia threatens to expand, full stop.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Russian propaganda painting Azov as all 45 million people in Ukraine when in reality they represent a percent of a percent.

It’s like saying we should invade the US because some of them are self professed neonazis. Absolutely bonkers unless you wanted to fabricate a reason to invade in the first place

Seasoned_Greetings ,

There are plenty of neonazis on our police force.

Azov has 900-2500 total members and are recognized as local militia only. In no way is supplying Ukraine’s military equivalent to “giving Azov weapons” unless you explicitly want a reason to justify killing Ukrainians.

Want to guess how many police officers we have nation wide here? Or maybe you have another whataboutism for me?

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Ah yes, the sign of an intellectual: ignore points you don’t agree with and call the other person a nazi.

The numbers are there. You are a Russian apologist content with seeing 45 million people lose their homes because of 2,500 shit bags.

Enjoy siding with the war criminals.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

No, I didn’t. But you don’t want to hear that because the only way your bloody justification works is if everyone is a nazi sympathizer.

Keep your fingers in your ears. You are insignificant

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Want to share a source on that? Or are you making shit up?

Seasoned_Greetings ,

I call names because I’m mad and can’t let it go but have no other argument

Yeah buddy, I know

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Jsyk. You don’t kill the cat because it has fleas. Unless you were looking for a reason to kill the cat in the first place.

Caring about the cat doesn’t equate to defending the fleas unless your goal is to get rid of the cat.

I know this doesn’t matter to you, because you’ve already attached your identity to the Russian genocide justification. But someone has to advocate for the other 44.995 million of them. It’s clear you’d rather them dead.

Anyway, enjoy being blocked. I have no more time to give to a genocide sympathizer.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Are you saying you can’t? Are you maybe saying that the only sources you have are Russian propaganda? Or are you just being condescending because you can get away with it on a Russian sympathizing instance?

Seasoned_Greetings ,

What I’ve read so far about each of those cases is that nato was deployed to either halt a genocide or suppress a terrorist organization. Both of those things are still defensive actions.

Though I guess they could be interpreted as aggressive by countries that are pro-genocide and pro-terrorism, so it makes perfect sense that a Russia/China instance would be pissing themselves.

Your fears are based in the aggressive nature of the countries you simp for, so do carry on. Nothing I say is going to convince you one way or the other if you’re already eating the propaganda cereal.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Btw, I still won’t reply and can’t see yours, but I just wanted you to know I think it’s cute that you’re compulsively down voting my comments. It’s the sign of someone with no other recourse lol

Seasoned_Greetings ,

I just described this phenomenon to a friend of mine today. We were talking about how racism evolved by the same people to be disgust against gay/trans folk. I explained to him that conservatives require an outgroup to hate on in order to operate and be happy.

This mother fucker took a second and said “Do you think modern conservative discrimination was caused by the fall of the Soviet union? I mean, when communism was a big threat everybody was united and happy hating the soviets”

My boy really trying to paint the red scare as a good thing

Seasoned_Greetings ,

I wholly agree with you. And I say this next part as an ally living in Louisiana:

I don’t see the courts being able to stop this from happening. Inevitably, it will get challenged and end up at the Supreme Court, which will rule 6-3 “states rights”.

Conservative justices have shown time and again that unless the constitution literally says the words “shall not infringe upon trans care for minors” they will not interpret it as such.

The only thing stopping this law in the last few years was a veto from the democratic governor, and now that that has flipped republican, the only thing that will stop it is enough people turning out to vote in 2027.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

I hope you’re right. I think the involvement of minors might change that though

Seasoned_Greetings ,

I’m no expert, but I always thought the American brand “conservative” stood for “fiscal conservative”, as in, to save money by limiting government spending.

That definition lines up well with their actual policies which tend to be cutting government spending, tax cuts, downsizing government jobs, etc.

Not really conserving traditions. Although there’s plenty of that in their cultural identity.

Edit: to be clear, the party has long since moved past being actually conservative. The most accurate description they might have now would be the party of spite.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

Texas politicians use illegal immigration as a wedge issue to fire up voters. Despite the fact that immigration across the Texas/Mexico border goes in both directions and generally hasn’t changed in several decades, Texas politicians have increasingly used the fact that illegal immigration exists to distract their racist and xenophobic conservative voters from seeing how shitty their policies actually are.

It’s rage bait for conservative voters. Just like how republican politicians have been sending bus loads of immigrants to Northern cities. There’s no purpose except to stroke the hate boners of their voters.

Now Texas authorities have illegally issued orders to stop border patrol (a federal agency) from intervening on the increasingly hostile and deadly measures to keep immigrants from crossing the border. Despite the fact that seeking asylum is in fact a legal act. In a recent case, Texas authorities stopped border patrol from rescuing a mother and her drowning children, all of which are now presumed dead.

Gov. Abbot said only a few days ago that he would order Texas authorities to shoot immigrants but he can’t because “Biden would charge him with murder”

Republicans expect this issue to be the double whammy of “look see we’re doing something about immigrants” and “big bad Biden is trying to stop us!” and look great to their racist, xenophobic base

Seasoned_Greetings ,

SDV hardly gets snubbed as one of the best games of all time. It’s constantly in the top sellers. I say this as a loving fan.

Seasoned_Greetings ,

All the likes of Zelda, Mario, Halo, Pokemon, etc. are going to get forgotten

I disagree. The reason being that video games and gaming of this caliber are completely unheard of in all of human history. We’ve come further in gaming tech over the last couple decades than the grand majority of all humans that have ever existed could even dream.

That being said, as long as emulation exists, there will be fans of big ips. The problem with saying “it’ll get forgotten as soon as the last person stops playing” is that the specific circumstance of modern gaming is unprecedented. People are still out there emulating games that came out in the 80’s. There’s really no rule saying this kind of technology won’t last hundreds or thousands of years like more classical games do.
