I dont know if this has been asked before or if this may be a little goofy of a question but I didn’t see anything relating to it and I’m kinda curious what the culture of Lemmy is like and what sort of common things people see. ive been paying attention to interactions but nothing is as good as just asking everyone.

I just have everything in a drawer with morning on the left and evening in the right.

My Dad needed a lot more pills on an intensive schedule but most pills were morning and evening, so I had 2 seven day pill boxes that I’d refill as they emptied and a system of alarms on my phone (that included the dose) for the other pill that he needed at intervals through the day.

So you should be able to find the right box for your pill regime and then you just get used to sticking to it, so you know if you missed one because the slot still has pills in.

If you are an open-minded cis dude who respects women and sees them as equal human beings you’ll have no problem finding anyone.

It’s not always that simple. For example, I cared for my Dad 24/7 which involved a convoluted pill regime (and a series of alarms throughout the day). My social life took a real hit. There are also mental and physical health issues, as well as financial aspects.

All that said, anyone thinking this is the solution deserves to be scammed because it is hardly informed consent.

Really the only trick they missed was turning it into a pyramid scheme but that might sneak in if you use the app a lot, although imagine the “success rate” on this is abysmal and a lot of users will drop out quickly.

My point was that cishet men may have it hard to find someone because they are not catching up with progressive and emancipatory values.

It’s worse than that - things seem to be regressing, with a widening political divide between men and women, especially noticeable in the younger adults.

It definitely feels like the modest progress that was made is now being eroded away

The only people benefitting are those peddling the lies to disgruntled young men, partly as a grift and partly as misdirection from the real sources of their issues.

But at the same time I don’t see how much people who are not cis men can do so much to really help them.

And it shouldn’t be your job to fix young men but I am as stumped as you and I worry about people like my nephew who is early teens.

Probably true as it will take a while for them to ramp the numbers up to cover the shortage in truck drivers, and they’ll still need drivers for that last mile (as these trucks work best going between depots on freeways) but how long will being a truck driver be a viable occupation? When it’s one of the biggest areas of employment, can everyone transition to other logistical jobs, as suggested by the article?

I read somewhere that the largest class of jobs in half the US states was truck driver and it’s high in most other places (that article says 600k). They are likely to be the first sector almost wiped out by AI, followed by call centre workers and a lot of the legal profession. Good luck reskilling all those people. Here in the UK, call centres were often opened in areas of low employment, so we’ll see a lot of the already decimated old industrial areas hollowed out.

I’m on a Firefish instance and have been really enjoying the features but the constant *key forks and failures means I am not exactly committing myself to it (I also have a Mastodon account). However, I am also not the biggest micro-blogger as that needs brevity. Perhaps when/if I find the right home that’ll change.

It feels like there’s an opportunity for shenanigans here.

I just heard about Brazilian Butt Lifts which is a procedure where they take fat deposits from somewhere on your body and place it in your butt?

My question is once this procedure has been completed and say the person really got into some heavy cardio and thus were burning a lot of fat would the body be able to burn the fat that was moved to the buttocks or does it not have the associated blood vessels to enable this?...

It’s why I prefer the Misskey forks to Mastodon. I hope that, as Fediverse services mature, we’ll see more of them take that approach, and/or use customisable algorithms like Bluesky.

Realistically, platforms on the fedi are much closer in design to their commercial conterparts than one would hope for if your goal was community building and situating the process of digital/online community building within the community themselves.

It’s still relatively early days yet. A lot of Fediverse services mimic commercial ones because it makes it an easier pitch to people “it’s like that but open and privacy-respecting”. Hopefully, as they mature they’ll evolve away from this. In addition, now more people are comfortable with the Fediverse they’ll start to create new and unique platforms.

That’s what I was thinking. It would make it really way for Threads users to try out the various corners of the Fediverse and they are still with Meta because of a demonstrated liking for convenience.

Then you introduce easy account migration so we can offer them greater privacy without losing out of access to their Threads account.

The Fediverse would need to make sure their servers are up to the task of on-boarding all the new users we’d be poaching.

Fait question, as I am an Admin on feddit.uk.

My thinking is that I try and keep the communities I start on feddit.uk to UK specific ones or ones that have a UK angle. If it’s more general, like sleep paralysis, I will put it on lemmy.world as the largest general instance (for example: !categoryiii). If it was on a specific topic I might fish round for an instance that covers the topic (no film or Star Wars instances are holding me back from that at the moment).

If we are talking OnlyFans, then those amounts are nothing compared to this guy. In 2022 people spent $5.6 billion on the site, with the top-earners making millions. It could see where issues lie and direct attention to solving them. If it raised it’s own funds it could create bounties to crack specific issues.

So I just posted this and it seems like a single ActivityPub login is doable through the API, no-one has implemented it. That seems like a good target.
