Except from Google of course, the worst offender of privacy that exists.

They put all these “privacy” features in so other companies can’t do what Google already does.

If you ever tried using a Google phone without Google apps, you realize how completely dependent almost all apps are on Googles API in the background, and most of them won’t work without it.

It was a while since I tried it now. I used Cyanogenmod before, quite a few years back. But camera was bad with it.

Most people can’t afford to buy electric cars, so… Either they become cheaper with time (they should) or less people will be able to drive a car…

I’m in the market now looking for cars and I was shocked by how expensive the electric ones are in comparison to hybrids or fuel driven ones.

No you probably still need reddit. It’s OK. :)

I don’t know… I cringe at what some Hollywood movies portray as 30 year old men… And Im happy I’m not like that myself at all.

We are probably quite different inside, at least some of us…

Supreme Court chief justice warns of dangers of AI in judicial work, suggests it is “always a bad idea” to cite non-existent court cases::Mr Roberts suggested there may come a time when conducting legal research without the help of AI is ‘unthinkable’

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Well of course there will be a time when doing legal research without AI is unthinkable. It’s the same as doing math today without a calculator, or washing clothes without a washing machine.

People do these things only because they have a reason not to (can’t afford a washing machine, or learning math and need to do it manually).

I would be surprised if that time is longer than 10 years away too.

It would be even higher if laptop manufacturers wouldn’t gimp their laptops with amd cpus. Lenovo is well known to have almost no amd laptops available. There are some serious under-the-table deals with Intel I assume.

The year before covid was great. After that the world went into crazy mode.

But 2023 was a winner compared to 2019 - 2022 I guess.

I’m guessing 2024 will have its own shit show, just not sure what yet.

The Lemmy.today instance owner got federation working again on 0.19.1 by doing a database query:

That’s ridiculous and you are letting your brain get clouded by your political views.

I really envy your positivity. So many people are not appriciating life at all, mainly because capitalism / lack of money and all that shit they have to deal with though.

Teslas Have a Minor Issue Where the Wheels Fly Off While Driving, Documents Show (1ft.io)

Tens of thousands of Tesla owners have had the suspension or steering of their vehicles — even in practically brand new ones — fail in recent years. Newly obtained documents show how Tesla engineers internally called these incidents “flaws” and “failures.”...

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

So much talk about Tesla. It’s like people don’t realize Tesla is not even relevant anymore. They were first with good electric cars, but their cars all have reliability problems and tech problems.

In the mean time, other manufacturers like Kia is eating their lunch without much publicity. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

It’s all relative. When their first cars came, nobody else even had cars that could go that speed and that range. That was considered very good back then.

Now in 2024, a good electric car needs to be reliable and safe. Tesla is struggling with that and have focused their attention on their self driving capabilities, which also has had many issues and accidents.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Hmm. In Europe nobody talks about GM for electric cars, it’s all Kia now… Do you have Kia around?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I know, Kia is absolutely not perfect. But feels like better then Tesla to me. They have been knocking it out of the park lately with great designed cars that look like from the future. But yes there are some reliability issues still with them too.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Didn’t know it was such a huge difference, thank you :)

You are a bit unlucky now too, since federation is broken. Before that happened, everything was working fine. :)

1984 ,

I think many of us feel that way. Just getting away from that shit is worth a lot of smaller glitches here on Lemmy. :)

The fact that you talk about users as “seeking refuge” means you think of your instance as much more than a social media platform.

So I would say that yes, maybe Lemmy is not what you actually need. It’s designed to federate discussions between everyone using it, and that’s a poor fit for a refugee center (so to speak).

I'm returning my Lenovo laptop that gave me tons of compatibility issues and getting this Dell XPS 13 instead. Thoughts? (www.bestbuy.com)

I’m going with this Dell and returning my Lenovo Slim 7 Pro. In my previous thread saying I switched to Windows I read that Dells offer great compatibility. I ordered this Dell XPS 13 and plan on going with Pop OS. Thoughts on this? Good choice?...

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I have Lenovo and not happy with it. Weird issues like unable to start it when battery has run out and it’s plugged into docking station. Need to wait like 15 mins before it even turns on.

Also issues with docking stations (from Dell) not showing external screen unless i unplug the cable at boot and then put it in during boot.

I guess all this could be because I run Linux though but I’m just not happy with the laptop.

I would get a framework laptop as a next one.

Yep.

A restart of Lemmy seems to fix it temporarily according to admin of Lemmy.today.

But it’s inconsistent and stops working after a while it seems.
