You know you don’t have to use these big tech platforms right?

Stop bowing down to their madness and just be OK with not having YouTube. It’s not like water you know. You don’t need them to survive.

Google likes to tell lies like they don’t delete comments, but they do all the time.

You would think users wouldn’t take their word at face value anymore but they still do!

People are generelly superficial, fueled by their egos, and interested mostly in sexual activities.

I think in the western world, this is also promoted through Hollywood as normal behavior for a human being.

So what is there to like about human beings like that? I guess I’m more attracted to people with some kind of spiritual guidance, because at least they are working on who they are and trying to be a positive influence on the world.

Alright, I'm gonna "take one for the team" -- what is with the "downvote-happy" users lately?

Title. “lmao internet points” and all, but what is the point of participating in a community that sees assumptions and other commonly non-harmful commentaries/posts as “bad” this easily? Do folks in here are really that needy of self-validation, even if it means seeking such from something completely insignificant like...

I just post what is true to me. Let people downvote. But yeah, lots of downvotes sometimes because some topics are just “we must all agree or else”.

Large instances are like reddit now, yes.

Oppenheimer was really boring but so was Barbie.

Both were shit, but highly rated.

So many real shitty movies this year with high grades. Mixed couples everywhere too, in every movie, to the degree that it’s ridiculous. Now we are inclusive and everyone is suddenly gay in the movies. :)

I can recommend the latest south park though, they are calling out Disney for what they are doing.

Pretty much sums it up with “put a chick in it and make it gay”. :) I laughed at least because that’s what I see in modern movies.

People are paying $23 for this???

Honestly shocked.

And it’s Google, so you know they are going to keep raising prices, probably adding some ads also in the near future. And of course selling your behavior to advertisers as well, that’s a given.

There is already a package for this in arch AUR you can install:

aur.archlinux.org/…/mutter-dynamic-buffering

I used to install this (it replaces mutter) but didn’t notice any difference in my system.

I think it makes a big difference on some systems though, since I saw other people absolutely love it.

Looking ahead, Hohndel said, we must talk about "artificial intelligence large language models (LLM). I typically say artificial intelligence is autocorrect on steroids. Because all a large language model does is it predicts what’s the most likely next word that you’re going to use, and then it extrapolates from there, so not really very intelligent, but obviously, the impact that it has on our lives and the reality we live in is significant.

Exactly.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

It’s not intelligent because it’s not thinking.

At least my definition of intelligence is thinking. Otherwise a simple pattern matching algorithm like a regexp is also intelligent, or a sorting algorithm that puts things in the right order.

But I agree it’s very efficient and has more data than any single person ever could. It’s a computer, they are great at storing and processing information.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yes it’s going to transform everything. It’s about the same as the transformation from typewriter to computer for society. But I still don’t think any machine that predicts the next word is intelligent. However, this is only the beginning. We are not going to be able to keep up with AI soon, and it will work around the clock to get better and better.

We will have those high tech societies from the movies where robots are everywhere and people are quite sad.

It should not be blurry. What do you have under Settings -> Display and Monitor? You can set a scale there (I have 150% on my 4k monitor), and make sure X11 apps apply scaling themselves. You probably are still running apps in X11 mode and having “scaled by the system” checked.

Firefox and other apps needs environment variables to be set to use Wayland, otherwise they will still use Xorg.

Absolutely awful shit and I would be ashamed for decades if I acted like this to another person.

Really shows the worst of him here. It’s rare that he becomes this toxic and humiliating.

I think it’s very likely that specially Tesla would go ahead with technology that is dangerous in certain situations, as long as it only happens rarely.

We all know what kind of a man Elon is.

You would not see the same in other established car brands.

Elon is the kind of man who would break not only eggs, but the chickens and the chicken farmers, to make his omelet, and if people get hurt, he would blame it on them for being stupid.

I would never trust a Tesla because I obviously don’t trust Elon and nobody should.

Ultrasound can push vaccines into the body without needles (www.newscientist.com)

Vaccines can be delivered through the skin using ultrasound. This method doesn’t damage the skin and eliminates the need for painful needles. To create a needle-free vaccine, Darcy Dunn-Lawless at the University of Oxford and his colleagues mixed vaccine molecules with tiny, cup-shaped proteins. They then applied liquid...

It’s really good that the media really managed to communicate to people that antivaxers are the enemy of everyone now.

When I think of an antivaxer, I imagine it’s some creature that we don’t normally see, because they are so ugly, stupid and insane that they wouldn’t be able to function in society without a lot of help getting their pants on in the morning.

I mean, imagine going against the specific advice of all those experts and NOT taking the vaccine?? That’s like putting a gun to the head of grandma who just wants to live her last few days in happiness, and then that stupid antivaxer just kills her! So evil.

I’m thankful we live in a society where we now can be confident what is true, because it’s very clearly being communicated to all of us, all the time. Who can miss that?? It’s like everywhere! Stupid antivaxers, hope they all die off like the poison on society they all are.

Of course not. We have science, and there should be no reason to question that anymore, now that we know what the truth is. It took us a long time to get here too. But now we know.

I don’t use them after inflation. I go to restaurant home page, and call the restaurant and drive to pick it up.

I used to use home delivery services but like you said, prices went crazy and food arrives cold or very delayed most of the time. I rather drive a bit then and pick it up.

I think it sounds the same as other shitty music I hear all the time.

I fully expect AI music to be part of the musical scene going forward.

Does it feel dystopian? Yeah, it’s not a fun future. But this is here to stay.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

All I hear is profit for the record labels.

But yeah, AI will be able to evolve too. We will have some good AI music soon also.

In a decade, high budget movies will have some AI actors in them and people won’t notice. :)

Anyone knows a page where they compare these fediverse projects? I can’t see the difference from Lemmy and other reddit clones, or Mastadon clones…

I guess this one but would take a very long time to go through and find details about how each software works:

fediverse.party/en/miscellaneous/

Actually maybe I should spend some time on that site, some of the software seems cool and completely unheard of to most people.

Yeah I know, but there are so many more projects out there that we haven’t even heard of. Guess I need to go exploring. :)

The web is like a shitty neighborhood now, with stalkers and unpleasant people coming up to you frequently to sell their shady stuff.

Still works for finding answers to technical questions but if I wasn’t working in tech, I would probably question why im using it in the first place. Is the entertainment value worth the cost?

Antivaxer is the new “jew” in social media. I imagine it was exactly like this to be a jew in the second world war. People would hate you without knowing anything about you.

It’s also similar rhetorics. I think the jews were accused of spreading disease.

It really hasn’t been that bad. Firefox mobile had ublock origin all this time, which is of course critical to being able to use the web today.

There are a few other plugins too, and now they are going to add a lot more. Sounds like good news. I’m not unhappy about mobile Firefox at all, I’ve been on it all this time

We don’t even know if the batteries on those things will worsen with time, like all other batteries do.

You cant replace the battery on a EW, it’s cheaper to buy a new car.
