Can’t wait for February 28th… :)

You could filter out x with spaces on both sides, and it should work fine.

There is rarely a reason to type x like that except in equations.

I agree it’s hard to find new friends when being 40+. But I would avoid apps, and go for Meetup events. It just feels a lot lot more natural to share a walk, or some event, with strangers, since it’s easy to get going and talk about things.

Remember that it’s hard for everyone, even people in relationships to find new friends outside of the relationship. I had a female friend that I liked, but my partner got jellous and I couldn’t really see her anymore. I understand the reasons but it’s just a bit annoying.

Better than Musk at this point.

But yeah I wouldn’t give my money to any of these companies. I would buy an electric car from a company that actually knows how to make a reliable car, like Volvo.

Volvo Recharge is the best car I’ve been in.

I feel like of a group of dedicated Firefox engineers should fork the source code and start their own company.

If they would focus on adding really useful features at a rapid pace, people would be willing to pay for it.

Similiar to Kagi, if you make a really good software, you will get a group of dedicated people to support you.

Just a tech company without these super expensive CEOs that are not needed in a smaller company.

The point is to network and make yourself look very successful and likable, a great lover or humanity, one of the best in your field but yet the most humble and grateful for all things that happen in your life… :)

You regularly post obvious uplifting quotes to your peers, who likes them and writes little comments back about how true that quote is, hoping to be promoted the next time there is a company reorg.

I can’t stand it. :)

Where I have worked, try company arranges events at work, like cooking something, or some mystery game, and then takes pictures of that and posts on linkedin. Then they ask employees to comment and say how fun it was.

It’s just HR marketing disguised as something else.

Is decentralised federated social media over engineered?

Can't get this brain fart out of my head.

What would the simplest, FOSS, alternative look like and would it be worth it?

Quick thoughts:

  • FOSS platforms intended to be big single servers, but dedicated to ...
  • Shared/Single Sign On
  • Easy cross posting
  • Enabling and building universal Multi-platform clients.
  • Unlike email, supporting small servers

No duplication/federation/protocol required, just software.

Single sign in to the fediverse seems awful. Then we are logging in to it through American big tech servers. Forget anonymity and no tracking. Probably see ads on the login screen too.

But otherwise, sure. A single server is not always a bad idea. In practice, this is how Lemmy is too. Most people are on Lemmy.world, and they picked that server because they don’t think decentralized is important.

Elon Musk Is Spreading Election Misinformation, but X’s Fact Checkers Are Long Gone::Civil rights lawyers and Democrats are sounding alarms about Mr. Musk’s claims about voting. The Biden campaign called his posts “profoundly irresponsible.”

I don’t get it. Why try to control what others enjoy reading? I just scroll past the stuff I don’t want to read.

I could be standing in the middle of the road, trying to prevent people doing what I don’t like, but it won’t work. :)

If we were living in the wild west, someone would have fixed the Musk problem by now.

I swear, it’s some organized agenda by marketing companies to create clicks.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

No no I didn’t mean you personally :) I meant all the shit being posted on social media designed to create “engagement”, usually intended to upset people so they click on links.

I know you are just sharing this.

Coming from apple, this means nothing.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I’m pretty good actually. But you never see me in the media. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I’m not sure they do. Some people are bad and they know they are but they just don’t agree that the definition of good matters.

A lot of this stuff is probably grounded in if you believe your actions has any spiritual meaning or not. For a lot of people, it seems that if there is no reward for being good, then why make the effort. Because for them, it’s an effort. For others, it’s just how they are.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yes, that’s what I meant. Good people are naturally good and don’t think about rewards for being nice.

But don’t they already have that in the US? It seems that brands like Kia are not nearly as big in the US, while they have explosive growth here in Northern europe since they get top reviews.

My sky is not falling, I hope the stock price hits 108 again though so I can buy the turds stock and make bank. :)

1984 OP ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah they are at the top of most reviews here. They have a bad reputation from before but trying to clean up their act. The Kia EV6 is very highly rated, and Kia Sportage as well.

Yeah we will see. ')

I think Volvo Recharge models are better than Tesla anyway. :)

Much higher quality, much more quiet inside, and Volvo actually knows how to make a car.

Yup thats capitalism. Always need to make more money than previous year, or we have a depression… Lol.

Well I was wondering what the cluster fuck of 2024 would be. We had covid, Russian war, massive inflation… Now what… High unemployment?

Amazing leadership, I applaude them.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

He meant that we only have capitalist gaming studios and no communist ones.

But it’s a flawed argument. We don’t have to choose between extreme capitalism and communism. Countries can strike a balance here if they want to. But America is the most extreme capitalist country in the world.

Even though it’s not endless, thank God.

Yeah I was going to say this. Is this written by an Ai?

The start sounds exactly like an ad. Not how a normal person would write that they enjoy Linux.

But since the blog has other articles, I guess it’s just how she writes.

Oh thank you :) Didn’t mean to offend you either. Thank for listening to feedback. :)

If it really has rebooted, it could be some graphics driver issue causing it to freeze up. I had stuff like that on Nvidia graphics back in the day. Linux will reboot itself after a while if it freezes.

Good for them, valve is one of the few good ones.

But I don’t understand why people buy loot boxes. The chance of getting a rare item is so small. They can just spend much less money in the steam market and buy the item they want.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think they are fine personally, specially when it’s just cosmetic items.

If AI could do all the work of engineers, the engineers would be using it right now to do their job, while relaxing on the sofa and getting paid.

I’m sure some enterprise jobs could be automated though. Stuff like filling in excel sheets with the same things every day.

Why has the world gone to shit?

In the last 5 to 10 years everything seems to suck: product’s and services quality plummeted, everything from homes to cars to food became really expensive, technology stopped to help us to be something designed to f@ck with us and our money, nobody seems to be able to hold a job anymore, everyone is broke. Life seems worse in...

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Well no. :)

It seems smaller rich countries are the best, like Norway.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

True capitalism, the only thing that matters is if the stocks go up. More profits, all the time, or we call it a depression. Lol.
