Yeah I was going to say this. Is this written by an Ai?

The start sounds exactly like an ad. Not how a normal person would write that they enjoy Linux.

But since the blog has other articles, I guess it’s just how she writes.

Oh thank you :) Didn’t mean to offend you either. Thank for listening to feedback. :)

If it really has rebooted, it could be some graphics driver issue causing it to freeze up. I had stuff like that on Nvidia graphics back in the day. Linux will reboot itself after a while if it freezes.

Good for them, valve is one of the few good ones.

But I don’t understand why people buy loot boxes. The chance of getting a rare item is so small. They can just spend much less money in the steam market and buy the item they want.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think they are fine personally, specially when it’s just cosmetic items.

If AI could do all the work of engineers, the engineers would be using it right now to do their job, while relaxing on the sofa and getting paid.

I’m sure some enterprise jobs could be automated though. Stuff like filling in excel sheets with the same things every day.

Why has the world gone to shit?

In the last 5 to 10 years everything seems to suck: product’s and services quality plummeted, everything from homes to cars to food became really expensive, technology stopped to help us to be something designed to f@ck with us and our money, nobody seems to be able to hold a job anymore, everyone is broke. Life seems worse in...

Most of the planet seems to be a shit hole. Western Europe and USA seems to be the exception. We complain about privacy and big tech but we don’t complain about having our kids shot by police at least (unless you are black in America).

Actually the USA is a shit hole too but much better than Russia or China at least. And if you have money in the US, it’s a ticket to living like a king.

Well no. :)

It seems smaller rich countries are the best, like Norway.

True capitalism, the only thing that matters is if the stocks go up. More profits, all the time, or we call it a depression. Lol.

Oh I have something for you!

I just watched Beau is Afraid, m.imdb.com/title/tt13521006/ and it was epic. One of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time.

I would rate this as 7.5 and really don’t agree with the lower imdb rating here.

Plasma is even better with Wayland, but yeah, it’s fine in Gnome too. 2016 it wasn’t ready but from 2021 or so it’s been fine.

I used to do that but it’s also frustrating, because when something new comes out, it’s just random luck if I’m on the right streaming service to watch it. Otherwise I have to wait…

Wasn’t this supposed to be as good or better than the video rental store, where they had everything in one place?

Yeah but the problem is, I was watching a lot of really bad movies on Netflix, just because they didn’t have anything I wanted to watch. So I was sitting there, feeling bored or annoyed or disgusted by the shit movies… I actually felt depressed by what I watched even!

So I was like… I’m paying for this, and I feel like shit most of the time when watching it.

No more.

I have 4 days from home and it’s heaven. I have a good salary too, although maybe I could get more if I was going for those consulting jobs where you sit at a customers office. But no way I’m ever doing that again.

I meet those consultants in team meetings and they are all dressed up, talking in a very “professional” way, acting like robots. I hope they are happy but I rather sit in my ordinary clothes at home and have a lot of free time before and after work. :)

So why do some bosses still feel it necessary to prolong the slow and necessary death of The Office? Beats me.

Because corporations paid for rental contracts for many years ahead, and also because a lot of local businesses depends on people buying expensive coffees and lunches to stay afloat.

This is why media is pushing for it, because the people who owns the media is also owning those restaurants and coffee places.

It always, always is about money in capitalism. I’m surprised this article comes from CNN to be honest. How did it get through the wall of groupthink.

Sublinks Aims to Be a Drop-In Replacement for Lemmy (wedistribute.org)

Seems like an interesting effort. A developer is building an alternative Java-based backend to Lemmy’s Rust-based one, with the goal of building in a handful of different features. The dev is looking at using this compatibility to migrate their instance over to the new platform, while allowing the community to use their apps...

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I don’t think I want anything Java running on my systems…

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I mean, Java has faster developer speed since it’s much less complicated than Rust. But it will also use a lot more memory. That being said, I guess most of what happens in Lemmy is database queries anyway and that will go equally fast in Java.

Rust is a very fast language but for a web app like Lemmy it’s probably not that important that it’s rust underneath.

But I really dislike Java. Lots of issues with code only working on a specific JDK, and code being very ugly due to all classes and shit.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

No of course not. But it’s faster to code in since you don’t have to worry about the borrow checker.
