You can find me on these servers as @ruud
I receive a lot of messages, direct and mentions. I can’t reply to them all. If you have an issue, please e-mail at [email protected]

Happy Cake Day, Lemmy.World!
Woo-hoo today’s my cake-day on Lemmy.world… actually I’m the first here but many will follow the next days. Happy cake day to you all!
Why You Should Self-Host Everything (dev.to)
Hosting a writefreely.org instance (k.fe.derate.me)
Looking through the writefreely.org instances on their website, a lot of the links are dead or closed for registration. The one that is open and working is promoting a paid version. Is hosting a writefreely instance heavy on resources, attracting the wrong people or just not "cool" enough?

"Best" Mac browser: Your view
I know “best” is subjective, but as someone who’s entrenched in the Apple ecosystem I always used to use the stock apps: Reminders, Calendar, Mail, Podcasts and, of course, Safari....
Any of you run lemmy and mastodon on the same server?
Curious to know of this would cause federation issues or anything. The instances would be using different domain names but on the same VPS
I created a Sharkey instance... (sharkey.world)
Next to Mastodon.world and Lemmy.world I am also running Calckey.world. This was running Calckey, a Misskey fork. That was re-branded to FireFish (that’s the danger of running sites with the software name in the URL… :-) )....

What I need:...
What should I name my Firefish instance
I run a server calckey.world , which used to be CalcKey, but the software was re-branded to Firefish. Unfortunately, firefish.world is taken. What domain should I use for my new Firefish instance? Preferably a .world domain....

Does anyone know what software runs FediDB and if it's open source? This is the most beautifully functional web interface I've ever seen. (fedidb.org)
What types of services are you not willing to self-host?
For example, something that is too complex for your comfort level, a security concern, or maybe your hardware can’t keep up with the service’s needs?
lemmy.ml is getting nothing new from lemmy.world, seem cut off since Saturday EDIT: fixed on Wednesday
I found one post from 12 hours ago that describes the problem: lemmy.ml/post/2650814 - but that’s all I’ve seen. Content is way down on lemmy.ml with nothing coming in from .world...

Your favorite "next-gen" matrix server
What is in your opinion the better matrix server software for self-hosting, Construct, Conduit or Dendrite (or even something completely different)?
First steps after booting up my own Mastodon instance
So I have set up my own Mastodon instance and it’s empty. What should I do to fill up my instance with content? And how do I do that other users of Mastodon on other instances see my “tweets” on my instance?
Fediverse equivalent use of TikTok/Instagram/Twitter for short video sharing..need tips on use/platforms/formats
I’ve been loving Lemmy and mastodon and feel they are coming along as good replacements for Reddit and Twitter. Outside the fediverse, I occasionally enjoy posting dumb little video shorts and I put them on TikTok, Facebook and Insta because I have friends, family and followers on each. (TikTok, Gen-Z, my daughter…Facebook,...

How does domain names work?
Who determines who owns a domain name? International organization? Do unrecognized countries also get their own top-level domain? If someone or some organization wanted to register a website for highly illegal activities (terrorism, crime organizations, etc) who has the authority to shut them down? Does one government has the...

Local Network Wiki
I have a self hosted media server, and I want my family to use it more so I don’t have to do everything for them. I think the best way to do that is to have a wiki available on the local network where they can see a reference of how to use things. What is the best way to accomplish this?...

About Instagram's "Threads" and people's concerns about privacy
I know that many people are concerned about “Threads” privacy policy and are all screaming “WE WILL BLOCK THREADS”. I honestly can’t see how it’s going to gather any personal information since Lemmy, mastodon etc. doesn’t collect any information at all. Like, how can you gather information about user, if he...
