After the rousing success of their military action in Ukraine which was predicted to be concluded in a matter of weeks, more than 2 and a half years ago, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be eager to fight multiple opponents on multiple fronts. How could that possibly go wrong for them?

Georgia election board orders hand count of votes in US presidential contest (www.reuters.com)

Georgia’s Republican-controlled state election board voted on Friday to require a labor-intensive hand count of potentially millions of ballots in November’s election, a move voting rights advocates say could cause delays, introduce errors and lay the groundwork for spurious election challenges....

I’m sure that local elections and ballot measures will be given the same level of scrutiny as the votes for federal elections.

State senate, state Supreme Court, various judges, school boards, etc. They’ll all be treated fairly and closely monitored and verified for accuracy.

Threatening to impregnate a woman is not a good tactic for a man who is currently fighting a sexual harassment.

EndOfLine ,
@EndOfLine@lemmy.world avatar

Reasons people may give a shit:

  • The US government is shoveling huge amounts of money towards an individual that dismisses and devalues half of the world’s population with an active sexual harassment suit against him.
  • Consumers might want to know if they are supporting if they are supporting a mysogynist by using his privately owned social media service or buying energy products / vehicles from a company he heads up as CEO.
  • Trump has announced an intention to have this man lead a new “Government Efficiency Commission” and this behavior reflects both on Trump for the sort of people he elevates into positions of power and reflects on Musk as a potential public servant.

Are they trying to hide behind a “I didn’t know what I was saying” defense while expecting people to trust and listen to what they say?

From the AP News article on the topic

One unidentified influencer’s contract included a $400,000 monthly fee, a $100,000 signing bonus and an additional performance bonus.

Such savage victimization. I’m sure that they returned all the money once they learned what it was for and where it came from.

I had to look up “debanked”. Admitting to it has to be the financial equivalent of telling people you are a registered sex offender.

Tax experts, economists, and union organizers say it is unfair for workers to pay into a system without a legal status to be able to reap its benefits

Wasn’t there some sort of skirmish in US history that involved the slogan “no taxation without representation”? Hmmm, what was that all about again?

This guy is a complete tool who sounds angry at Google for personal reasons.

I have worked for several successful startups with remote work policies. The employees don’t “work like hell” because they are in an office. They do it because THEY HAVE EQUITY. If the startup prospers and does well then so do the employees. I’ve never had a coworker decide to stay late because of access to a communal fridge and public bathroom. I have, however, known them to work harder to improve their chances of an early retirement.

The considered ban on masks was for protesters.

The idea of not allowing anonymity for protesters has its origins in combating racial violence and the KKK. Klan members suddenly lost a lot of their motivation to assemble in public, once they had to show their faces, those that did were less likely to commit illegal acts and the ones that did break the law were more likely to face legal reprocutions.

The contemplated ban on masks for protesters in Los Angeles was considered following increased violence by masked protesters and was not motivated by covid denial.

If these answers are not provided, the claim then undergoes further review, which extends the time a winner must wait in order to receive their prize.

So the prize was delayed, not denied. Misleading headlines like this really make it difficult to trust the source.

Ride share is very popular and it offers a similar service to what most people expect from self driving cars.

I think that the majority of people want a vehicle for transportation and those who want a car for recreation are a minority.

A survey of 18,000 Americans released in March pointed to flexible work schedules helping mental health.

It’s almost like the work force actually values the quality of their lives more than … umm, honestly I’ve never been able to figure out a positive side for companies pushing RTO. Report after report show remote work improves productivity, employee retention, is perceived as a significant perk to attract new talent, and reduces corporate overhead (that last one is just an assumption on my part).

Seriously, what is the attraction for RTO?

Today, under 5,000 women and 8,000 children are now officially listed by the UN as casualties.

You are “happy” about 8,000 dead children?

You seemed really confused why somebody would be upset about 8,000 dead children and also stated that you were “happy” about the updated numbers.

I hope that is the case and that I am just confused with how things were worded.

I still don’t know who the “largest demographic of legal adults” is that they referenced, but some mysteries are destined to remain unanswered.

For those, like me, who had never heard of BRICS before this article.

BRICS is an intergovernmental organization comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. Originally identified to highlight investment opportunities,[1] the grouping evolved into a cohesive geopolitical bloc, with their governments meeting annually at formal summits and coordinating multilateral policies since 2009.

Are you kidding? China has some of the strongest censorship laws in the world which includes filtering internet content and blocking access to apps. North Korea is the only country that has more repressed access to free information.

The Chinese government has banned, among others, Google, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, BBC, Wikipedia and … are you ready for this … TIKTOK. The Chinese government agrees that TikTok should be banned (though for different reasons).

In 2020, so-called “AI agents” defeated human pilots in simulations in all five of their match-ups - but the technology needed to be run for real in the air.

It did not reveal which aircraft won the dogfight.

I’m gonna guess the AI won.

Panhandling is just asking for money. Every celebrity, politician, school, charity, church, library, little league sports team, etc I can think of has done that at one point or another. I have worked in office environments where people have come around looking for donations for this thing or that.

How are you defining panhandling and why would it be any different than other forms of soliciting for donations? Because it sounds like your question is about policing a group of people and not an action.

From the article:

At first, it appeared the bread exemption applied to Panera Bread restaurants. Bloomberg News reported the change would benefit Greg Flynn, a wealthy campaign donor to Newsom. But the Newsom administration said the wage increase law does apply to Panera Bread because the restaurant does not make dough on-site. Also, Flynn has announced he would pay his workers at least $20 per hour.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman sold 500,000 shares on Monday at an average $32.30

On Monday the 25th, Reddit shares were trading between ~$49 and ~$59. The stock has not yet dropped below the initial price of $34.

Can somebody explain why these shares may have been sold below market value?

The difference is the US government believes that TikTok is beholden to the Chinese government. When a corporation acts this way it is an invasion of privacy. When a foreign government acts this way it is espionage.

If TikTok is sold to an entity the US government thinks is sufficiently independent from a foreign government, then they can continue spying on users.

Alternatively, they may be able to registers under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. I don’t know how that would impact TikTok’s ability to operate though.

Toyota already admits that they are behind on their battery technology, despite having decades of opportunities to improve and innovate with their hybrid models.

Now they want to double down on their atrophy by effectively throwing their money away instead of investing in the future?

On the surface, this does not sound like a good plan for long term growth and profitability.
