If you buy the hardware you should be able to turn it on. Jail breaking is fully moral in that situation.
The self driving is software that uses the hardware so should be paid for IMO. You should also be able to use your own software thatās open source on the hardware you own
Tesla is subject to some oversight by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They recently forced a recall when they werenāt satisfied with Teslaās software.
Does Teslas still have a disclaimer that the self-driving features arenāt self-driving and that if the driver is using the self driving features and there is an accident Tesla canāt be held liable?
If it was a matter of installing software on a laptop or phone, Iād agree with you, but installing software on a vehicle that can run over people is another matter, disclaimer or not.
Just like some cars are street legal and some cars are not, some software should be street legal and some software not. If the 3rd party software has been cleared by regulators for your Tesla, Iād be fine with it.
I did read it. They opened an investigation like 5 years after The Model S was released and people have died. Now, 6 years after that, something actually happens. 6 years of more accidents.
The same could be done with 3rd party software so thereās no difference and itās not the same as the car system being regularly inspected.
I havenāt followed it closely to know all the deets, but some action being taken is better than none. Iām not out here defending Tesla or current government policies. I do believe that if I have to pass a driving test to operate a vehicle, then whatever self-driving software is installed should do the same.
If youāre trying to convince me that anyone should be able to take any random self driving software they found on the Internet, install it, and let it go wild on public streets, weāre going to have to agree to disagree.
It seems you are trying to prove that ārandom softwareā is unsafe compared to Teslaās when you actually have no idea how safe Teslaās is.
There are multiple companies and universities developing software for self driving cars.
What if the ārandom softwareā was developed and maintained by Volvo, would you still call it ārandom softwareā? Would you still claim that Teslaās software is more safe to use?
Nope, if you look at a previous comment of mine in this thread, youād see Iām fine with 3rd party software as long as itās been approved by regulators. Same goes for Teslaās software - if it hasnāt been approved by regulators prior to deployment on the streets, Iām against it.
Running your own software to control the automotive part of a car is probably not legal, since I assume the process of making a car street legal should requires an audit of said system.
Any software that passes whatever local safety standard should be installable (or software that doesnāt pass if the car is not being used on public roads).
Otherwise the car is not being sold, itās being rented, and all the advertising that says anything about buying is fraud.
Good luck getting a homebrew OS for tesla cars to pass those tests. I donāt even know how that would work. Iād be curious to know what would happen if you would try to register and get a car through the TĆV for example that runs on custom firmware.
Itās similarly hard to make an airbag or seat belt, but you can still undo the bolt without the manufacturer in another country bricking your car without any considerations of your local laws.
Well-developed software built by professionals to industry standards and capable of doing a very important job effectively. And homebrew. You might be surprised at what sufficiently motivated nerds are capable of.
Homebrew software is unofficial/non-commercial software for systems which were originally set up with proprietary software (like gaming console or in this case car OSs).
The market is fucked. The house I bought 3 years ago has doubled in value. Itās absolutely insane.
And you might be thinking, Great sell it! But then I have to find a new house that isnāt being swallowed up by businesses paying cash for them (good luck). And we will never again see 2% mortgages in our lifetime, so Iām just going to die in this massively overvalued house.
My taxes have doubled in the six years weāve had our house. Mortgage + taxes + insurance are still way cheaper than what dickbag landlords want to charge for an apartment half this size in the current market. It helps that Iām a DIYer and can fix pretty much anything that goes wrong with the house.
I donāt know what to say. You sound screwed but could have been screwed much worse. Sorry or congrats?
My landlord inherited the property and he is a lazy asshole. Every few years I change the dates on my lease and have him sign it. No plans to ever move. The lowest priced home that isnāt condemned in my city stands at half a million. A friend of mine was out bid on a home in the nearby city by 100k and in cash.
I donāt know what to say. You sound screwed but could have been screwed much worse. Sorry or congrats?
I think the bottom line is that almost everyone is screwed the way things are going. Iām screwed a lot less than other people since I got in at a (comparatively, now) low purchase price and great interest rate. My home insurance company has surprisingly not increased itās rates for the last two years as well, so thatās a silver lining I suppose.
Same wrt buying a house at the right time. We do plan on selling ours though at or close to retirement. Weāre both working pension jobs so weāll just buy a modest RV and live off of our retirements + the proceeds from the eventual house sale (if thereās still an America and American market at that point). Thatās the plan, anyway.
Two Nevada State Patrol officers tracked Zuberi down at a Walmart parking lot in Reno the next day, July 16, the complaint says. He was in his car holding one of his children in the front seat while talking to his wife, who was standing outside the vehicle. He initially refused to get out of the car when the officers asked and instead cut himself with a sharp object and tried to destroy his phone, according to the complaint, which notes that Zuberi eventually surrendered and that the child wasnāt harmed.
All the Republican/Trump supporters Iāve ever met here in New Zealand (why? Who the hell knows)are batshit crazy. Most of them Christians too surprise surprise.
You can thank Rupert Murdoch and his cable TV ānewsā empire. He has propaganda channels internationally that all spout the same pro-Trump/right wing crap that idiots fall for.
I canāt really respond with my thoughts here because Iām licensed in four states and all of them are experiencing different shifts in real estate, which I find odd.
California listings are selling quick while Utah is taking a long time to get sold. Just an example.
Around here Iād say the average price dropped about 10-15% and itās pretty slow. My neighbor sold in a week for over asking a few months ago, now my other neighbor is only getting lowballs and itās been on the market for 3 weeks.
Iām not a realtor but Iāve been in the market for the past few months so Iām on redfin daily
He is the presumptive GOP nominee. He is making history with 80+ felonies and a century of prison time in the sentencing guidelines. Itās not free. Heās paying.
Itās time for the Merchant Marines if thatās the case, those guys are actually trained for exactly this stuff, and most are former Sailors, Coasties, and Marines.
I genuinely believe that they are hoping, if not praying that RTO results in a huge chunk of people leaving. Alongside forcing people back to the office, theyāre now pushing people to relocate to main offices, and limiting teams from hiring internally.
Iād say the same is for many big companies. Theyāre absolutely desperate for people to leave in order to cut costs and look lean to investors while they take in record profits.
Not everyone can have the luxury of working from home. Most knowledge workers can. Cooks and waitstaff, teachers, mechanics, etc. have to work at the āofficeā.
