Crazy parrot and reptile lady here to confirm. I would much rather take a bite from a large snake any day of the week than take a bite from one of my birds. I’ve had to get stitches multiple times because of my little feathered assholes.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

The key to dealing with a (pet) snake bite is to not pull back in fear. Their teeth are definitely like Velcro. Usually I’d just let them go to town and then run some hot tap water over their head. They don’t like the water and immediately let go. With birds you’re getting hurt no matter what you do.

@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

No not where I live. When my husband and I kept hot inverts along with our snakes I kept a comprehensive supplemental insurance just in case someone got hurt, but the laws here only apply for reporting illegal animals.

@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Ooo yea rubbing alcohol works too in a pinch. I’ve been lucky enough not to have to do it. I typically stuck to working with our carpet pythons and left the boas to my husband.

My African Grey could easily cause me serious damage but he does hold back by only giving me warning bites. He thinks he’s being gentle but it still hurts and I don’t ever forget what they are capable of.

Had a good snort at that title. Well played.

Well at the the article did sort of explain why the team was pursuing this line of study. Too bad they didn’t learn anything more useful.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

I didn’t even know this was coming. I’m beyond excited.

Ah yes, the “Flounder” of the snek world.

13 years ago I bought my childhood home from my parents. They basically gifted me the down payment and my dad helped me update it. I was exceptionally lucky them and I’d have no chance in hell buying a house now.

@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Just looked at Resolve and I definitely want to try this out. It almost sounds too good to be true. Anyone here tried it?

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Cool. Yea I saw all of the hardware they’re pushing and that’s what made me wonder what’s going on there. I use professional grade software for work but I’d like to have more professional features for home too without the high cost of entry.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Ooo I just started my Linux journey and I’m definitely checking out that YouTube channel.

It’s a small deterrent for China but a bigger incentive for other countries to defend Taiwan.

My parents had this conversation with me once I hit college. I was thankful that they were open minded and supportive but it was awkward convincing them that while I very much liked the opposite gender I had other priorities at that time.

When you have all the money and power of a god all that’s left is being worshipped like one. These people are very mentally sick.

And I thought I’d seen all the phlebotomist memes. I like this one though, it brings a whole new meaning to the phrase Goblin Mode.

Periods are a nightmare in Gaza's crowded, unsanitary camps. Women are using birth control to skip them (www.cbc.ca)

Crouched inside her makeshift tent at a camp in Rafah, Samah El-Nazli fidgets as she recalls what her living conditions have been like since the war began. The mother of four is among millions of Gazans struggling to access food, water and sanitation in the overcrowded camp after losing their own homes in the strip....

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Hey I can answer this. Was on birth control for over 10 years and did the whole skip cycles thing. Turns out I’m one of those lucky 1 in 10,000 that developed severe liver tumors! Seriously though a lot of bad shit can happen if you use birth control too long without breaks. It’s definitely not meant to be a permanent solution.

I thought the Army Corps of Engineers helped out with stuff like this.whatever this was it is far too big to be moved safely by regular folks.

There’s a good reason anesthesiologists get paid as much as they do. There is no way paramedics get enough training to be granted the ability to use sedation like this. And any tool given to police becomes a weapon. This whole policy is a recipe for disaster.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

That’s totally a fair point and I would love to think that all medics are awesome like you. What I don’t like is having the cops even remotely involved in the decision and not being held just as accountable as the medics. Ultimately it’s the medic’s butt and licence on the line while the cops just laugh at getting away with murder.

I really don’t understand why streaming business are so surprised. They are providing television for rent and users are renting it plain and simple.They seem to think they are entitled to lengthy subscriptions from users when in reality they aren’t providing a service that’s even stable or worth it.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Okay I don’t really like Cradle of Filth but my husband does. But I really really like their cover of Iron Maiden’s “Hallowed Be Thy Name.” Somehow the cover has more energy than the original.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Can confirm I am a Linux lurker who would love to learn all this cool shit but right now I don’t have the time/mental fortitude to wade through all the bullshit and experiment. I already do that enough with power platform at work and I know that I know nothing. It’s exhilarating and tiresome. It would be great if we could have some “training wheels” type of community on here to help new users out.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Do you get lab tests done or annual vaccinations? Because many components used in these products are also provided from processing blood donations. Blood donations are never wasted as everything gets used for something in healthcare. Check out the AABB site for more information. Blood donations are a true gift.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

I believe the only time it is designed like that is for autologous donations. That is where you donate specifically for yourself ahead of time for a procedure. This is really helpful for people with special blood needs or religious exemptions but it’s not really done too often. The only other case I can think of off the top of my head is that new moms can have cord blood banked for personal future use or donate it to stem cell research.

This is the best news I’ve had all week!

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Technically this is a grey area and they are blatantly misusing the exception for court order/warrant rule. HIPAA just states that records must be turned over but doesn’t get into details concerning how much or how little should be provided. I really can’t believe the judge allowed this but I suspect (hopeful anyway)that this will get kicked up to a federal court since federal law supercedes state laws.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Yea I don’t think we’re getting the whole story here. I’m very certain that the hospital knew that records were being manipulated. The sheer number of people who have to look at and interact with a patient’s chart guarantees that others knew of the manipulation occuring. The whole “restructuring” comment is not a good look either. I hope the whole system is sued into oblivion.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Reminds me of cabbage patch dolls with the signature on the booty.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

I mean the most obvious malicious compliance here would be to make a bus line that runs to the tiny little parking lot at the entrance. Nothing the wealthy hate more than public transportation in their backyard.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

You are right though, this is a wonderful story of community coming together. I think much of the support isn’t really monetary but an outpouring of love trying to help a little girl cope with her loss. But I do agree that no one should have to experience monetary stress in times of crisis. We can all do better all of the time, not just some of the time.

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

I feel like that statement is the crux of all human existence right now.

A biased test kept thousands of Black people from getting a kidney transplant. It's finally changing (apnews.com)

At issue is a once widely used test that overestimated how well Black people’s kidneys were functioning, making them look healthier than they really were — all because of an automated formula that calculated results for Black and non-Black patients differently. That race-based equation could delay diagnosis of organ failure...

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

The eGFR is just an estimated calculation not a real lab test. At best it is a nice screening tool. Any physician basing care solely off of this value is being negligent. I am sure there are many reasons behind such negligence including institutional racism baked into the American healthcare system. It makes me extremely happy to know that governing bodies are finally making changes for this particular bit of lab testing.

Aviandelight ,

Thank you. At the end of the day social media and the Internet are just tools. The constant exposure to the gamification of human psychology for profit is harmful to all of us and children are less capable of breaking free of it.

What lunches do you eat on a weekly basis?

I’m looking for easy and cheap options for lunches on weekdays. I mostly eat deli sandwiches and hot dogs right now and I always feel like shit after eating them. I think I need something healthier but I don’t have time over my lunch hour to cook anything too fancy. What do you all do for reliable healthy easy lunches?

Aviandelight ,
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Canned chicken over rice is my favorite poor food. Usually I mix the chicken with mayo and spread it over rice cakes. One can to 3 rice cakes is a full meal.
