I’m so glad Biden dropped out because now he just looks senile.

solsangraal ,

“senile” might just be the kindest word anyone could use to describe trump…

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You would have thought “weird” was the kindest, but it’s really getting under the skin of the MAGA crowd.

Bonesince1997 ,

PugJesus ,

FlyingSquid ,

It’s just funny that Biden tried everything from ‘convicted felon’ to ‘crazy guy’ and his surrogates added things like ‘rapist’ and ‘dictator’ and such and none of it got under their skin.

But ‘weird?’ That’s a bridge too far!

Bonesince1997 ,

Sometimes it’s the simplest things.

CobblerScholar ,

Saw on good point on here the other day. It gets under their skin so bad to be called weird because they know they are and their entire platform rests on convincing you that they aren’t

MataVatnik ,
@MataVatnik@lemmy.world avatar

Because their entire political platform is about superficial attacks on others while painting themselves as the cool normal people. Their entire existence hinges that they are normal relateble people, when you call them weird it means that they are in the same class that they’re attacking. It’s like those superficial bullies from high-school who in reality are tremendously insecure.

Viking_Hippie ,

Because they’re fascists.

To a fascist, weird = not normal = one of the OTHERS = an evil and dangerous abomination that must be eliminated one way or the other for the good of the Reich.

ramble81 ,

It’s also a simple word that they all know. You could try to analyze them and talk about their sociopathic tendencies and it’ll fly over their head. Call them “weird” though and they know that word very well.

frezik ,

Might be why it took so long to find messaging that hit. “Fascist”? They shrug it off and call you the real fascist for calling them fascist. “Deplorable”? Too mean; Democrats aren’t allowed to be mean, and women definitely aren’t.

“Weird” is what threads the needle. Who would have guessed that even weeks ago, much less in 2016?

Taake had been on pretrial release for a pending child-solicitation case in Texas when he went to the Capitol ready for violence

Court documents show that Taake portrayed himself to his would-be paramour as little more than an innocent bystander. “Safe to say I was the very first person to be sprayed that day … all while just standing there,” he added.

When he was arrested on Jan. 2021, the FBI recovered three loaded guns from Taake’s residence even though he was barred from having them due to his status as a felon, authorities said.

They said that based on reports from his pretrial detention, he has “taken to using violence against other inmates to relieve his frustrations with his self-inflicted predicament.”

He also wasn’t soliciting a minor of anything nefarious, your honor! No, he was just reaching out to teach them about why our structure of three branches of government have demonstrated a wisdom in government design that’s a wonder of the world!

He was also just holding the metal whip for a friend. He though the bear spray was deodorant and since people had been working so hard to ensure the large group of tourists at the Capitol had a good time he thought he was doing the police a favor by making them smell nicer.

Buddahriffic ,

Conservatives make a lot more sense when you realize that they are actually about preserving a hierarchy and everything else they support or oppose is in pursuit of that.

Even when they aren’t at the top of the hierarchy, a) they’d like to keep the possibility that they could be at the top open, b) like not being at the bottom of the hierarchy, and c) believe one’s position in the hierarchy is deserved (which can even overrule item b and makes them admire the ones higher up, at least until they start threatening their ideas about the hierarchy).

ChunkMcHorkle , (edited ) in Reddit Insiders Selling Days After IPO; Shares Fall

festus ,

Some of these people have been with Reddit since the very beginning and this is basically their first practical chance to sell any of their shares - I wouldn’t read too much into their activity this week. For a company valued at $9B, having the founder & other executives only sell $41M in the week of the IPO if anything feels like the opposite of dumping.

remotelove , (edited )
@remotelove@lemmy.ca avatar

From my experience, these people have lots more shares than what they sold. And aside from spez, it’s not really that much.

If I am not mistaken, these sales are also planned and public knowledge before the sales are executed. The key shareholders should know executives are going to dump stock.

But yes. This seems normal to me.

One thing of note is the average price spez sold for. That is actually below market value so it’s likely that his sale price was fixed, which I believe is a thing.

zerog_bandit ,

Yes. Insiders with that high a fraction of ownership exercise the ability to sell shares at a predetermined percentage value of a full priced share. Usually pegged to the closing price at the beginning or end of a quarter, whichever is lower.

It doesn’t help that now have generational education deficits from decades of conservative undermining of the school systems that’s manifesting itself in undereducated people being crushed by a capitalist system designed to extract maximal wealth from the public and those people being frustrated while their propaganda channels tell them it’s all my the fault of minorities and liberals.

They tried to pass a bill regulating them in the early 90s. All the supplements companies took out ads screaming that doctors were trying to take your vitamins away. Very unpopular, bill went down in flames.

Like no, doctors just don’t want people getting amphetamines in their creatine supplement. Or unexpectedly getting St John’s wart in some supplement that doesn’t list it as an ingredient, suddenly causing severe and dangerous interactions with multiple medications the person is taking. It says a lot about the supplement industry that they fight tooth and nail against any regulation that would require them to accurately report what’s in the bottle. They can basically just make it up out of thin air as it is. Tons of supplement makers with expensive “proprietary blends” where they don’t even attempt to show what’s inside, then market them toward incurable diseases like alzheimers, very carefully avoiding the name of the disease in advertising, and taking money out of their pockets in exchange for false hope. Looking at you neuriva. If your blend actually works, test it, patent it, become billionaires (they won’t because it doesn’t).

And some being sold are just straight up harmful. You can hop on Amazon right now and buy 250 mg /pill vitamin b6 supplements. If they’re reporting that accurately, that’s a toxic dose that could be harmful to your health and even cause neuropathy (ironically many who take it are hoping it will help with neuropathy, but that’s only true if you’re deficient, and you don’t need anywhere near that amount even if deficient).
