Is it the nearly flat roof that makes you say that? It looks like maybe 4 inch rise across eight feet, so a 1:24 pitch. “Roof felt” was the only roof covering I saw. Oh and they lined up all the siding seams which probably isn’t great.

PlantJam ,

Volkswagen E-golf seems to fit your description.

PlantJam ,

Yes, the used ones are still pretty good though. I think the ID3 and ID4 are the successors to the eGolf.

PlantJam ,

The “people don’t want to work anymore” rallying cry has always confused me. Who ever wanted to work in the first place?

PlantJam ,

I love everything about this picture, thank you for sharing. Seeing all the different mushrooms that come and go throughout the day is one of my favorite parts of spring.

PlantJam ,

I imagine goat cheese would also be good, but I just really like goat cheese.

With a maximum out of pocket, the second surgery in a year is usually free. The hard part is paying off the first one.

PlantJam ,

I tried this for about thirty minutes today. Seems like it could be good once there’s a little better guidance for new players.

PlantJam ,

One issue is that processed foods are made to be hyperpalatable. Pair that with agriculture subsidies that make meat and sugar (corn) cheaper than they should be and you have a recipe for an obesity crisis.

I believe reallocating those subsidies to healthier foods would be a great step towards fixing the issue, but healthy foods at the grocery store being cheap doesn’t really compete with the convenience of fast food.

PlantJam ,

And don’t forget that salad likely has the nutrition of a big mac!

PlantJam ,

Yes, I was mostly referencing calories, and more specifically referencing fast food salads. You’re right that even if the calories are equivalent the micronutrient value of the salad is likely better.

PlantJam ,

Coincidentally soy is one of my favorite home cooking ingredients! Tofu, TVP, and especially soy curls.

Slime mold would like to have a drooly word.

What I don’t miss from reddit is the bot comments. Not the novelty bots that reply if your comment is in alphabetical order or something like that, but actual chat gpt responses to regular posts or comments.

I have no idea what the point of them is, but they’re awful.

PlantJam ,

What’s the point of those types of bots, though? I guess they’re just trying to have vaguely genuine looking accounts to use for some future purpose, maybe political or advertising related.

insurance invalidation

For clarity, if you do a stupid job at your DIY solar installation and it burns your house down, that is likely a covered cause of loss. There isn’t a policy exclusion for stupidity, unfortunately.

There may be an exclusion for the panels themselves since you could argue that improper workmanship was the proximate cause of loss, but the ensuing damage would likely be covered.

A similar scenario would be an improper plumbing repair flooding your house. Insurance won’t pay to redo the plumbing that was wrong, but it will pay to fix the water damage.

Have you played A Plague Tale (innocence, then requiem)? It’s one of the best story driven games I’ve ever played. It’s entirely linear, so plot urgency doesn’t feel artificial like it does in open world games.

Sorry, the term HEB is already taken by Texas groceries.

4 months durability for an $800 phone!

My old $200 Motorola G9 Power phone lasted almost 4 years with only very minor scratches. Obviously in that period I have dropped it a few times getting out of the car, where the phone sometimes work itself out of my pant pocket while I drive, and then it slips out when I get out of the car. But no problem on my previous phones,...

Didn’t we already learn this lesson with Harley Davidson?

It’s still way more awesome than cable ever was. Sure you can have all the services all at once and pay as much as a cable bill, or you can rotate your subscriptions and pay way less.

Played a bit and enjoyed it. I really like the concept of the first skill having way less cool down. I found the scaling information a little hard to follow. For example, skill does 1 + 20% (icon) damage. This could be improved by also putting the formula in plain language, i.e. “20% of elemental damage plus 1”.

The auto skill feature could make this an excellent mobile game. I played with all my skills on auto attack and it worked quite well.

Some of the stats could use some more explanation. Element and support were particularly vague. Also the first skill cool down stat, I had a hard time figuring out how useful more of that stat would be since the tooltip still showed the skill’s original cool down.

Overall a really cool concept and implementation. Looking forward to playing the full release.

PlantJam ,

Peacock disabled auto play previews for a while and it was great. But that was only because the whole screen would go black for a couple seconds as it tried to load the preview. They fixed that issue and now the previews are back. Mute button is doing a lot of great work these days.

Being a developer at a non tech company is great. My role tends to blur between salesforce amin and developer, but that’s partly because of the small size of the company (less than 100 employees total, less than 10 in IT).

PlantJam ,

The fact that they are going through social media history makes this significantly less of a risk, but it’s still a risk.

PlantJam ,

Yes, non usb network adapters with Bluetooth are available.

Keep in mind that nursing is a four year bachelor’s degree. There are other options, but the four year degree is most common in the US. That means many nurses chose their profession when they were just out of high school. Nursing being a stable, well paid, and highly in demand career is something that everyone hears about. Blaming nurses for taking that to heart and pursuing it as a career is questionable at best.

After Dobbs, twice as many women sought tubal ligation than men turned to vasectomies (www.salon.com)

Published today in a JAMA Health Forum research letter, policy researchers from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health and Boston University show how the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court ruling affected preferences for permanent contraception among males and females between the ages of 18 to 30. It’s the first study to...

Can you confirm that these are state level requirements and not just doctors forcing their opinions on their patients? I was under the impression it was just a thing certain doctors did.

Your username is perfect for this topic. It looks like a 1 in 2000 chance for the tubes to grow back together, but I couldn’t find any information about when that is most likely to happen or if it ever stops being a risk.

Wikipedia is gauging interest for an extension that uses AI to see if any claim is cited on Wikipedia (meta.wikimedia.org)

A prototype is available, though it's Chrome-only and English-only at the moment. How this'll work is you select some text and then click on the extension, which will try to "return the relevant quote and inference for the user, along with links to article and quality signals"....

And here I am going out of my way to disable any and all floating buttons.

Yeah but the 9-12 hours of darkness at night is different, those four minutes were completely unexpected by anyone without access to internet or common sense.

Why it matters

Driving the news

The big picture

Between the lines

Flashback

This writing style at axios is nearly unreadable. It’s like they’re trying to turn an article into a bulleted list. I generally appreciate a bulleted summary at the top of an article, but not like this.

PlantJam ,

Don’t forget that Microsoft will also process forwarding rules before it finishes the “is this bad” scan.

PlantJam ,

Same, except I just look at all local communities. All communities lemmy wide ends up having too many duplicates.

PlantJam ,

I recommend some keyword filters. I use them to reduce certain topics from my feed, specifically about certain wars or politicians or celebrities. I did the same thing on reddit to filter out some of the “awareness” campaigns where everyone posted about the FCC chair to every single sub.

I also just browse local communities instead of the entire fediverse. This defeats the purpose of the fediverse, but it drastically reduces the number of duplicate and NSFW communities. I then mute the communities I don’t want to see. I’ll also mute the hyper specific communities that usually have complete overlap with the more general community, i.e. dogs and dogpictures.

It takes some work to get your feed to your liking, but it’s worth it in the end. There’s still far less content available than on reddit, but the amount of quality content feels similar.

PlantJam ,

Honestly I don’t even bother subscribing to comminuted. Communities for me are opt-out via muting rather than opt-in via subscriptions. I still see posts from the news community even though I have several Gaza keywords filtered out.

PlantJam ,

Exactly. And how delightful that variety is!

PlantJam ,

I recently started doing something similar with my cold brew. I found that I actually prefer either a lot of creamer or no creamer. The middle ground of some or a little creamer just doesn’t taste right to me. One unexpected benefit is that omitting creamer has made rinsing/washing my cup much easier.

I knew a cat that would put kibble in her water dish to soften it. I see now that I should have been grateful she didn’t use your cat’s method.

How can I make (east) asian food healthy?

many east asian dishes included some ready made sauce like 豆瓣酱 or 柱侯酱 in chinese cuisines or 고추장 in korean cuisine. These sauces make our dishes delicious but unfortunately they are very high in salt and/or sugars. Is there some way to make the dishes with these sauces from scratch or without such high...

Going a different direction with the flavors is another option. Lemon pepper chicken instead of barbecue chicken, or a vinaigrette dressing instead of a cream sauce. Some of these alternate recipes still have plenty of intense flavors without being as intense on the calories.

Sorry, it was more of a response to the parent comment than your original question.

Katie Porter's star dims in failed US Senate bid, leaving the Californian facing an uncertain future (apnews.com)

I’m still pretty salty about the DNC doing Bernie Sanders so dirty.

The 2016 Hillary coronation primaries were such a joke.

If it has a 50% chance to increase by 10,000% or a 50% to decrease by 90%, the average expected price is an increase of about 5,000%. It’s a finance thing, but I doubt the commenter was serious.
