I know the amount in this situation is ridiculously low… but is there an acceptable amount where shooting would have been justified? How much money should it take for a cop to be able to open fire on a suspect? $50? $100? $1000? 10,000? 1,000,000? What’s the cut-off?
I’m not suggesting it, the post title is suggesting it. They mention the $2.90 fare, as if to show what a pitifully low amount of money they were killed over, which suggests that had it been over a more reasonable sum of money, maybe the shooting would’ve been more understandable. Maybe had it been in the process of stealing a $100 million Van Gogh it would’ve been different.
How much money should it take for a cop to be able to open fire on a suspect?
Broadly speaking, the police shouldn’t be using lethal force unless someone’s life is at risk.
But that gets us to the “we think he might have had a knife” excuse, which is just taken at face value as Carte Blanche to do as thou wilt.
The escalation of force from “jump a turnstile” to “four police trying to surround and tase the suspect” is more tied back to the $2.90 cost. Had they simply shouted after the guy as he fled, nobody would be in the hospital right now. Instead, they went Commando Mode, and bystanders paid the price.
Started using factor meals, pre-cooked meals that you reheat in the microwave/oven in their plastic containers. I guess I will start transferring the food into something else to reheat it 😬
The pagers that detonated were the latest model brought in by Hezbollah in recent months, three security sources said.
I wonder if Israel has a unit similar to the NSA’s TAO (tailored access operations) where they inserted people into the manufacturing plant to tamper with devices before they even left the factory.
This is more simple than that. They’re sending a malicious payload to the target numbers which causes the pager to heat up the battery and explode. Nothing manufacturing related.
I would love to see a detailed technical explanation for how this would be possible.
I design battery-powered electronics for a living and I can’t think of any design that would let a battery explode with the violence these did, let alone on command. Unless it were deliberate.
“This is just ridiculous, it’s got to stop somewhere. I mean, the governments, the city officials, have got to do something about this. I’m pulling my kids out for the rest of the week at least, if not going homeschool for the rest of the year because this is just… it makes me scared to have my kids at school at all … Something has got to give,” she said.
Maybe someone should be reminding everyone this is Trump and his fascist regime doing this. If they had an actual platform other than fear-porn his propaganda machines wouldn’t have been airing this crazy story based off one Facebook post by a woman who said she made it up based on something she heard from someone basically in a game of “telephone”. Then Trump wouldn’t have seen it on Fox and repeated it at the debate, and now everyday since.
he had been transferred out of his precinct’s traffic unit after Jeffrey Maddrey, then the chief of patrol and now the department’s highest-ranking uniformed officer, asked that he be punished.
He’s learned that the cop who got wronged can pick up $175k in taxpayer money while the cop who engaged in the corruption gets to keep climbing the seniority ladder to do this shit again.
Insulting me doesn’t change the fact that he only supposedly fought the corruption when he got demoted. Or do you think that’s the only corruption he ever witnessed as a cop in Staten Island?
I’m not saying he did or did not see whatever supposed corruption you’re saying is going on.
However, you’re trotting out the usual ACAB trope when you have the same level of knowledge as anyone else - that is to say, fuck all. There’s little to support your assertion of a “fact” here at all.
I’m not arsed one way or another whether you like cops or not, but at least make your arguments make sense.
According to the post description, he was punished AFTER he ticketed the higher ranking cop’s friend. Where did you pick up the being punished before part?
I’m not aware of any headlines stating that. How do you know this is the only corruption they fought?
Seems like he was doing his job professionally and ignoring requests by superiors to give special treatment, all the way to reprisals and getting demoted because he wouldn’t stoop to their corruption… Isn’t that what we want with cops?
ACAB, except the ones actually fighting and fixing this stuff. We need good ones and should encourage them.
What are you talking about? He fought against special treatment BEFORE getting reprisals. He was punished after treating people equally, not before.
The settlement was about the reprisals he faced for sticking to his guns and NOT becoming corrupt. You should be mad at the pig in charge who pushed for the demotion, not the guy doing the right thing.
“No one, and I mean this, truly I do, no one knows more about crypto than me. Ask anyone? My team of experts and I, and they’re smart people. They’ve got big brains, tremendous even, hyuuuuuuuuge. And they tested me right? Right? I took an IQ test and I got all five stars. That’s the greatest IQ of any sitting president in the history of America, and I didn’t even study. They asked me, “how come you’re so smart?” And I said, and I told this to them because by the way they’re the greatest brains we’ve ever assembled in our administration, the democrats wouldn’t know this because they’re terribly not smart and ignoramus— but I says, “it’s because I’ve been born into business and I led this country and created Billions and Billions of dollars. I can creat The Crypto!,” I told them. And they looked at me and said, “Sure whatever you say boss.” We have a tremendous administration, and part of, the EV batteries is because they’re heavy? We have heavy batteries, and really it comes down to immigration. Other countries are sending their criminals and derel— deruhlickies— you know what I mean. Gestures vaguely at head with accordion hands. And truthfully, we have to make this country great, because all the democrats and the radical left are being anti cryptic. Why? Is there a reason why they don’t promote cryptoast? Is it because they’re corrupt like all these immigrants that are causing crime and poisoning this country? Why is that? It seems like I’m the only one asking. And no one knows more about it than I do, and this is why we have to remember to take back this country and show up and show out on November Firth. Buy my Crypto, and apes hold strong and don’t sell until next year - trust me, I’m going to make out like a bandit— uh by winning the election!”
It’s pretty good, but you need to add in a mention of his uncle who went to MIT and how that means he has very good genes and knows all about this stuff.
“I have a really smart uncle who went to MIT. I consulted him and grew up with him, and he taught me many things that I carry today. And I’m the only one who can do this because no one knows more about this stuff than me. Skinny genes? You bet I’ve got them. I’ve got them locked up! Crypto? The immigrants are trying to eat our genes. But we’re looking into that you know. And some people asked me, “how come you got so smart, how come you know so much?” And I said, “I’ve got experts looking into this, could we bring MIT into the body? Almost like a smartening? Sounds interesting, it would be interesting for us to look into.” And after I said that they looked at me and said, “Mr. Trump, what the hell are you talking about?” And I smiled and pulled them into my handshake and laughed, saying, “pump my cryptic coin. It’s gonna be big, it’s gonna be better and stronger than Bitcoin. It’s gonna be the best that ever was, because I made MIT.”
The police literally have ‘courtesy cards’ they hand out to friends and family to avoid getting them ticketed - that’s a practice that absolutely needs to stop.
The special commissioner’s office recommended that Wilson and the other staff members faulted in the report be fired and that they be required to reimburse the school system for their family members’ trips.
Wilson told the Post that she retired and was not fired.
Department of Education spokesperson Jenna Lyle said in a statement, “All staff identified in this report are no longer employed by New York City Public Schools.”
