Trying to make the news “fair and balanced” or “both sides” sounds like a great way to enable fascism. If a candidate is going to continuely do/say things that are going to have a large impact on the country, then reporting on that should absolutely be shared without fear of a ban just because the “other side” hasn’t done enough negative to write about.

I understand not wanting to be filled with shit posting, but legit news sources should be the goal, not trying to balance reporting which IMHO sounds more like election interference.

@TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social avatar

The post sounds more like a limitation on negative press than a limit on poor sources. Might be a better idea to just temp-ban politics all together till after November, then nobody needs to try and interpret this post that doesn’t seem to align with what is being agreed with in comments.

I know I’m feeding a troll, but US democracy is on the ballot this year. Previous years have been big years, but this could be the last election in the US. Trump getting to the White House will allow him to save himself, and he will be bringing Fascism to a whole new level in the US with Project 2025 and all the truly evil folks in his cult leadership circle.

He’s shown you who he is, I think we need to start believing him. He has also surrounded himself with even more unhinged and dangerous people this time around. They have a plan this time to keep power and end elections. Putting your head in the sand doesn’t make him and his cult any less of a threat, and plays right into their playbook. They want you to become disengaged, to burn out, to think he is “just joking”, or just “telling it how he sees it”, or worst of all “the new normal”. These all leave his cult emboldened and with less resistance to grabbing power.

More than that, they unprecedentedly arranged with his lawyers to pick a date/time that NONE of his family, let alone himself, were even in Florida! This is 100% intimidation of law enforcement in retaliation for the justice system FINALLY trying to hold him to account for his lifetime of crime.

Troupis @ 70 yrs old doing crime could mean his last days could be in a cell if he were to get the full 6 yrs possible. That kind of blind loyalty to Trump that has zero F’s for this man just shows how sad it is to be a member of a cult.

I wonder what the GOP take on Hunter’s trial is going to be? I’m going to go out on a limb and say, if convicted they will praise it, while at the same time saying Biden has the DOJ weaponized against Trump. If Trump’s DOJ hadn’t shut down all investigations into his crimes I’m sure his Federal ones would have started while he was still in office. He also wouldn’t have had to rush to announce his running to make his cases “political” even though nothing states he can’t be held accountable and campaign at the same time. Running alone shouldn’t be treated as some shield to prosecution as it is due to everyone afraid of looking “political” and feeding right into the crazy arguments from criminals.

    I had read in the past that Trump also believes that the bodies energy can be “used up” like a battery and is one of his many reasons he never does physical activity.

    I think a majority of this depends on the market. I have seen 4 houses sold on my street in the past 2 months. And 3 of those were in May, and the 4th was April but is being flipped I think and back on the market with a higher price (more inline with the current area - and to recoup renovation costs).

    For those not upset and see the band “just playing a gig”, what would be a line that you personally would consider too far? Would you be ok with them doing a private show for Netanyahu and his cabinet? Would a private show for Trump and his Republican lackeys be ok? How about Nestle CEO and its board, but none of its workers? Would a private show for the Proud Boys be ok if they had a “dump truck full of cash”?

    TimLovesTech ,

    They are all members of the cult, just sadly the majority of them don’t realize they are. This is David Koresh on steroids! He has a platform previous cults did not, and has captured a political party to use for recruitment. It has become apparent that at some point the media and the country need to start treating his cult as such, and we need to figure out how to “rescue” millions of people that would do anything for their cult leader because they have broken all tethers to reality. Putting the cult leader in jail is not going to bring these people back, and is going to require mental health resources on a scale the US (and the world) has never had to deal with before. This is going to have repercussions for generations.

    At what point is it more “work” to just do the wrong thing instead of what people are paying for? Also if people were already embalmed, why wouldn’t you just put the body in the casket (since you don’t embalm ppl for cremation)? Or do the “cremate everything” route I’ve read of other places getting in trouble for? At least it’s not having to stack bodies in a room that the article describes as basically hell on earth.

    TimLovesTech ,
    @TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social avatar

    Sounds like more reason to burn “the evidence” (aka cremate) afterwards. Not sure how staking bodies in a building is a long term solution. I guess when you’re the kind of person that can do that to people grieving, you’re also not too bright.

    Two of my favorite consoles of all time. If they could do an updated retro console based on the Intellivision II and allow playing Atari 2600 games without buying a separate adapter I would be in heaven.

    I have bins of games, but my controllers did not age 40+ years all that well. 😞

    TimLovesTech ,

    My Atari joystick still works, it’s more my Intellivision controllers. But having a nicer way to play on a modern TV with the original games with higher quality controllers would be amazing.

    Replying with a bunch of debunked Russian propaganda to dismiss Russian interest in steering US policy seems like putting your head in the sand. You are so far down the rabbit hole of misinformation that I hope you are able to make it back to reality at some point down the road.

    TimLovesTech ,

    It had votes/support from both sides. And giving away democracy because you’re upset about a social media site seems like a bad take. Imagine telling future generations you traded the country’s democracy because you were mad at them because they took away your short video sites.

    TimLovesTech ,
    @TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social avatar

    I’m not following your logic here. Not voting, or actually voting for Trump both work in his favor because his base is going to vote for him no matter what. You would only be hurting the side that wants us to continue to have future elections. But at the end of the day if you can look in the mirror and be ok with selling out democracy more power to ya.

    Imagine waiting underground for years just finally emerge to find your mate and turns out you have some fungus that makes you into a sexual monster and then …

    Once the cicadas emerge from the ground, they molt into adults, and within a week to 10 days, the fungus causes the backside of their abdomens open up. A chalky, white plug erupts out, taking over their bodies and making their genitals fall off.

    So their plan to deescalate a kid making threats is to expel the kid for a year (or forever), and then also taking away their license (for a year)?

    I’m sure “ruining” a kids life instead of listening to them and getting them help wouldn’t speed up an unstable kids time-table for revenge at all. Probably best to not even try and understand why a kid is making the threat in the first place, that might require addressing issues and make people uncomfortable.

    So the way I have heard it explained by lawyers is that people can still have feelings one way or the other, but if they can put them aside and listen to facts and come to a decision based on those facts, NOT feelings, then they would be “qualified”.

    And with millions of people in Manhattan to draw upon, it should be possible.

    I’m not a woman, but the choice also comes with emotional baggage that if forced to travel for these procedures, must also come along on the trip. It may not be a case of just get in the car and go. Because, if you pack it up and bring it along, you (ie. women) have to unpack that at some point, and doing it on a road trip may not be the best setting.

    TimLovesTech ,

    In that video they already had guns out and pointed at him. A group of unmarked “cops” shouldn’t be allowed to draw weapons and surround your car on a seatbelt violation. The second they all showed up with weapons drawn I would consider his shot self defense.

    They shouldn’t even be approaching the car until a uniformed officer is on scene to vouch that these aren’t just some Proud Boys (or any similar group of wanna be paramilitary out LARPing) playing cops.

    TimLovesTech ,
    @TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social avatar

    He was surrounded by unmarked people with guns drawn and pointed at him as soon as he rolled down his window. Plain clothes officers should not be surrounding people with guns drawn for a “seatbelt” violation. I would say he felt like his life was at risk, and use of force was completely justified here.

    These cops murdered him, and should be charged as such.

    I wonder if they received phone calls from the two companies running these mills telling them that unless they do something they were going to lay people off and/or close mills?

    I also wonder why when proposing new regulations like this, the EPA doesn’t calculate its numbers, but then also have an outside auditor/estimator run some numbers as well so that it doesn’t come down to EPA says this and company XYZ says that.

    Technically the electoral college isn’t eliminated, it just makes it so the votes go the the winner of the popular vote and not the gerrymandering. This would put every state on an equal footing and no more red state/blue state nonsense. People disillusioned by the current system can begin to feel like their vote “actually counts”, and maybe drive more people to actually participate in elections “where every vote counts”.

    EDIT - Sorry themeatbridge, we are saying the same thing. I read your reply quick and thought you stated it was eliminated, not just functionally eliminated which is a big distinction that would require a lot more effort.

    It is also not in their job description to disperse “justice”, or do anything but apprehend suspects and then allow the Justice System we have in place to deal with that. The second they step outside of that description they should be treated like any other citizen who took vigilante justice into their own hands, being charged and tried as such.

    This article from back in October of '23 does not state that at all, and I never read her take the position of “Israel has the right to defend themselves”, but rather the opposite.

    Earlier, she called the events of the weekend “devastating for all those seeking a lasting peace and respect for human rights in Israel and Palestine” and said, “I condemn Hamas’ attack in the strongest possible terms.”

    But she also called for an “immediate ceasefire and de-escalation".™

    Mexico, a key U.S. ally on migration, pushes back hard on Texas law (www.washingtonpost.com)

    MEXICO CITY — After years of bowing to U.S. pressure to help slow migration, Mexico is drawing the line at a Texas law that would give the state a dramatically bigger role in border enforcement, including the right to deport undocumented migrants....

    TimLovesTech ,

    As long as they put the law makers front and center in their completely senseless “war”. Biden should also come out and state that Texas is acting alone and will receive no aid from the US until they reverse course.

    I would say the later, open rebellion. I would say let Texas fight their fight, then we quell the rebellion and take the state back for the citizens who aren’t responsible for the shit show going on there. All elected officials responsible are removed under the 14th amendment, and they elect hopefully non-traitors.
