monk , in A riled Trump sounds off outside the New York fraud trial that accuses him of lying about wealth

Trump denies wrongdoing. He says … that it didn’t matter what he put on his financial statements because they had a disclaimer that says they shouldn’t be trusted.

[Sure our financial statements were full of lies, but we put "these statements may or may not be full of lies" on them so that's not fraud.]

@Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social avatar

“Employees aren’t experiencing highs or lows — instead, they are expressing a sense of resignation or even apathy,”

Have these people never seen Office Space? All of this is completely normal. Workers don't like working. That's why it's called "work." FFS Futurama made a poster about it.

“I don’t hear as many people saying ‘I want to make more money’ or ‘I want to climb the corporate ladder.’ Now, it’s ‘I want to feel more connected to my work,’ and ‘I want to be excited about what I’m doing.’”

That's funny because all I hear "I want to make more money."

These people are living in an alternate reality. That's the only explanation. Nobody could be this aloof.

I'm on my third edit now, JFC these people are dumb:

New Gallup research shows that remote employees, in particular, feel increasingly disconnected from their workplaces’ mission and purpose.

That's the point! I love being disconnected from work! I don't care about the mission, just the money! I used to care about the mission, but that didn't pay the damn bills. You think I'm here because I want to be?

“It’s all about creating an environment of belonging, hearing and being understood,” she says. “You don’t need to fix everyone’s problems in a day — even aiming to have one meaningful conversation or check-in with the people you manage, once a week, can make a huge difference.”

That's it managers, just do one nice thing a week. That's all you need to do.

I enjoy what I do.
What I don't enjoy is being forced to drive 40 minutes to the office to do work I could do from home just to drive 40 minutes back to the house.

Yeah that’s the crux of it. Return to office is an added 80 minutes of unpaid unnecessary labor

I like the part where he mentioned a 500 year old statute of limitations.

Fun fact: That is more than twice as old as the country of the United States.

krayj , in Trump Attorney Screwup Means Trump Won’t Get Jury Trial in NY Fraud Case

So the repeated (ad nauseum) Trump claim “I only hire the best people” isn’t accurate?

Asafum ,

It’s absolutely accurate, we just never asked by what metric “best” was being measured.

“Best” in this case was apparently “someone dumb enough to think Trump won’t screw them out of money.” :P

FuglyDuck ,

“They didn’t ask for payment up front.”

HuddaBudda ,
@HuddaBudda@kbin.social avatar

If Trump could hire the best lawyers money could buy, he would.

Problem is he is either stiffed his previous lawyers, so the smart ones don't trust him.

Or those lawyers are now witnesses in his legal battles. So they can't represent him.

orbitz ,

Yeah when your lawyers have to record you (believe it’s something from Cohen’s testimony) to have a backup of what you requested, you don’t get the best lawyers. Trump would never hire someone that seems smarter them himself, he has to be the most intelligent person in the room (lol). No one intelligent would really act dumb enough to be hired by someone who is notorious for not paying, mean unless there’s other factors but he’s not getting a highly regarded and clean lawyer at this point.

CosmicTurtle ,

Anyone else have fun thinking about how fictional lawyers would represent Trump?

Like I could see someone like Lionel Hutz representing Trump. Maybe Barry Zuckercorn.

Not Bob Loblaw. I think Saul Goodman might pass on him. Kim Wexler I could see doing it probono.

So, I must have followed a link to one of their videos at some point, because the YouTube algorithm spammed me their shit for months until I blocked it.

What kind of content is it? The thumbnails and titles looked rage baity

Crozekiel ,

It’s actually pretty decent legal oriented YouTube entertainment. He’s a practicing lawyer that talks about current events and discusses possibly relevant laws or sometimes legal procedures. Sort of a more serious version of attorney tom.

CosmicTurtle ,

It’s pretty good. He definitely has a bias and I don’t agree with him 100% of the time.

For example, he advocates that forced arbitration agreements isn’t that bad. I don’t agree with that at all.

But it’s good content and high quality.

chiliedogg ,

He’s actually pretty good. I really enjoy some of his reviews of legal movies.

BadEngineering , in US expands probe into Ford engine failures to include two motors and nearly 709,000 vehicles

About time Ford is held accountable for their dogshit engines, although investigations should have started in the early 2000s. The Ford triton v8s of the late 90s and 00s were prone to blowing sparkplugs out of their cylinder heads (taking all the threads with them) so often that parts stores advertised the repair kits prominently. Ford never recalled a single engine for the problem and faced no repercussions.

What one? The 6F35? Or the DPS6?

Montagge ,
@Montagge@kbin.social avatar

The 5R55 comes to mind first

Pirky ,
@Pirky@lemmy.world avatar

What problem did they have? I had a Ford with a 5R55E in it. I don’t recall reading about any issues with them.
The 6F35 had an issue with one of the pressure plates breaking, resulting in some very hard shifts between 3rd and 4th gear. I also experienced it when shifting from park to drive or reverse.
The DPS6 actually had a lawsuit against Ford they were so bad. For some stupid reason they kept the clutch dry and that could cause catastrophic failure in some dangerous situations.

Montagge ,
@Montagge@kbin.social avatar

I done goofed and left a letter off. It was the 5R55W specifically in that family.

agent_flounder , in Abercrombie and Fitch ex-CEO accused of exploiting men for sex
@agent_flounder@lemmy.one avatar

The BBC has now uncovered allegations that the fashion mogul exploited young adult men for sex at events he hosted in his New York residences and luxurious hotels around the world, including in London, Paris, Venice, and Marrakesh.

As part of a two-year investigation, the BBC has spoken to 12 men who described attending or organising events involving sex acts run for Mr Jeffries, 79, and his British partner Mr Smith, 60, between 2009 and 2015.

The article then goes into disturbing detail.

krayj , in North Dakota state senator, his wife and 2 kids killed in Utah plane crash

It’s not evident from the article, but I did some additional digging to find additional details.

The plane was a 1966 Piper PA-23 (a 4-seater)…which means the plane was not being piloted by an unnamed 5th person but by either Doug or his wife (and probably by Doug, considering he was a North Dakota Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel in command of the 112th Aviation Battalion).

incendiaryperihelion ,

they mention near the end of the article that his wife is reputed to have completed her first flight or something according to their social media, and that the NTSB spokesperson said that it wasnt clear who was piloting

krayj ,

Somehow I completely missed that from the article. Thanks for pointing it out.

“We need to increase employee surveillance to identify workplace unhappiness and take appropriate administrative action against employees costing revenue by being unhappy at work, against corporate directives to all non-executive staff requiring they be very happy during work hours as a condition of their employment.”

-The owners, almost certainly

You can always count on the capitalists to prescribe increased beatings as the cure for declining morale. Meanwhile you never see them sharing that expensive bar in their office filled with top shelf liquor with their unhappy employees…
