All you have to do is redefine "christian-like behavior " to be whatever you want it to be, regardless of what the Bible says.

Though the bible has enough vagueness and contradiction that you can usually find something in there to support almost any position…

Well when you outsource all your skilled jobs to other countries for a few decades, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they will move ahead of your country in the skills needed to compete against you.

That quest for extreme short term profits at the expense of your own long term sustainability/survivability has come back to bite you in the ass. Congratulations corporate America, you’ve played yourself.

kent_eh ,

It’s not even limited by country. There are far too many places in well resourced countries that don’t have access to good (or any) libraries.

kent_eh ,

The account’s discovery raises questions on just how many bots are operating on X, including those run by foreign adversaries

Far more than you imagine.

will soon wash away with the rain…"

Just like any attention they may have grabbed due to their stunt.

Please speak to the people sitting beside you in the pews.

They don’t seem to care what us godless heathens have to say. Maybe they’ll listen to a fellow believer.

kent_eh ,

Literally never seen one of those outside of movies.

kent_eh ,

Must be a country specific thing.

kent_eh ,

There are laws in many states

For now…

kent_eh ,

large, easily readable font

Can it use large font characters from non-english languages?

kent_eh ,

They will be one of many, I expect.

kent_eh ,

An Asian language font should do nicely.

Or perhaps a Farsi font.

kent_eh ,
kent_eh ,

That excludes a lot from the biblical text.

The “no working on the sabbath” thing continues on to list that you also can’t make servants work on the sabbath - which would include the poor verbally abused waffle house staff working the Sunday brunch shift when the after church crowd comes in…

kent_eh ,

For me, the last time I was in the market for a replacement vehicle, the 2 biggest factors were availability and price.

The dealers had zero stock (except maybe a rare fully optioned ridiculously priced example of the top of the line model), and I was not in a position to wait 2+ months for a factory order of a car that I couldn’t even test drive.

kent_eh ,

Import a bunch of those cheap Chinese EVs and lots of people will buy them

Or start building affordable EVs here.

Back in the 70s when Toyota, Datsun, Honda etc started eating the big 3’s lunch on affordable fuel efficient vehicles, they responded with smaller cars of their own.

If they’re not willing to respond to market demand and competition, do they even deserve to stay in business?

Isn’t that what the “free market” they claim to love enforces?

kent_eh ,

embarrassed to have been caught.

Exactly.

They’re always so very sorry after they get caught.

kent_eh ,

I would suggest the prisoner could only petition for execution after being incarcerated for a significant period (20 years or so maybe?) and having exhausted all possible legal appeals.

And having to have lived with the consequences of their actions for a signifigant period of time.

No taking “the easy way out” of their punishment.

kent_eh , (edited )

Of course. Why wouldn’t a con artist go after a group that has already self-selected for gullibility?

It’s scamming on easy mode

kent_eh , (edited )

It’s hard to see how they still manage to have much money after all the grifters have been picking their pockets.

How many people actually want fully on-site IT jobs?

I’ve been looking for a new job as a software developer. The huge majority of job listings I see in my area are hybrid or remote. I just had an introductory phone call with Vizio (which didn’t specify the location type in the job listing). The recruiter told me that the job was fully on-site, which I told her was a deal...

kent_eh , (edited )

You’re talking specifically about software based IT jobs.

Those of us who deal with the hardware have always been and will always be on-site and hands on.

kent_eh ,

I work with a few who prefer the office over work from home.

It does allow for a more clean break between work and non-work mindset.

I find it helps maintain a more healthy work-life balance.

Plus, I work on hardware, so it’s not like I can do that remotely most of the time anyway.

kent_eh ,

Aren’t fluorescent bulbs the ones that flicker?

Yes, but so do cheap LEDs (or more specifically LEDs with poorly designed drivers/power supplies)

kent_eh ,

I think an automated battery swap system would work best for OTR trucking.

Yes, that and other commercial vehicles that put on a lot of miles in a day, every day.

kent_eh ,

what’s the alternative scenario here?

Parents could not upload pictures of their kids everywhere in a vain attempt to attract attention to themselves?

That would be good.

kent_eh ,

That may be fine for regular customers, but what about the rest of us who don’t have the menu memorized?

kent_eh ,

The menu is 6 foot across, above the counter where you order, glowing, with pictures of each item and number next to it

And changing pages while you’re trying to parse the cacophony of choices and options.

kent_eh ,

She’s been asked before.

Her answer is “hell no”

kent_eh ,

That’s not an apology.

It’s a “sorry I got busted” statement.

kent_eh ,

If they do, that means they don’t take design seriously

The diploma mill MBAs that run the place don’t know (or care) what good design is.

They only know how to look at business costs as “cutting into our profit”.

kent_eh ,

things made overseas that are cheapest to buy in the US

Things that are made overseas because American business owners outsourced the manufacturing jobs to the countries with the cheapest labour (and also the least worker protections)?

kent_eh ,

Though now I realize you actually have to get referred by one of the other members in order to start posting

That is done with the intention of keeping the quality of content high.

I doubt they want to get flooded with low effort “let’s play” gamers or even lower effort AI voiceover stock footage crap.

“My whole life is destroyed,” he told the court. “Everything that was important to me up until that point is gone.”

Welcome to the consequences of your own actions, dumbass.

kent_eh ,

Counterpoint, no rights are absolute. There are conditions and restrictions on every “fundamental constitutional right.”

Further to that point, rights come with responsibilities. If you are going to forfeit those responsibilities to society then you are going to also forfeit some of the associated rights granted by society.

kent_eh ,

The Rambo fantasy kills another innocent kid.

And also, very likely, traumatized multiple others who just witnessed a couple of teenagers get shot and killed.

kent_eh ,

would you really not vote for him if he was the Dem nominee?

Absolutely. I prefer my lawmakers to not be convicted criminals.

Though, if your hypothetical had both candidates being convicted criminals, then I’d have to look closer at the alternatives, as well as examine how damaging the 2 criminals are likely to be going forward, shoukd they gain power.

kent_eh ,

I’m not willing to blame Biden for Netanyahu’s crimes.

There is no president in my lifetime that would have treated Israel signifigantly less kindly than the current administration has.

Lesser of two evils, right?

Yes, actually. Trump absolutely would have continued sucking up to the Israeligovernment, rather than attempting to have the combatants negotiate a cease fire.

kent_eh ,

foreign money hoping to tank a liberal platform.

Since when was twitter a “liberal platform”?

The rightwingnuts have been running rampant over there for as long as I can remember.

kent_eh ,

You could see just what you wanted to see.

That’s not my experience. I never wanted to see rightwing conspiracy crap, but I wasn’t able to avoid it crowding my feed until I avoided Twitter entirely.

kent_eh , (edited )

It was made within the last two decades

In that case, destroy it and drop it into a scrap metal recycling bin.

kent_eh ,

I’m unfortunately sure she’ll get the same DNC treatment as Sanders, though :/

What, other than bleak cynicism, leads you to that conclusion?

On the other hand: most cars are not moved 23h a day. They just stand around.

It doesn’t take much shade to have a signifigant reduction in the output of a solar panel.

Unless you are parking in an open field with no trees or tall buildings around, your power generation will be signifigantly reduced.

Not that the amount of power generated by a panel the size of a car roof is all that much, even under ideal conditions.

kent_eh ,

large corporate landlords who could profit with smaller margins.

Could, but typically refuse to.

kent_eh ,

Because they’re over leveraged. They’ve purchased assets when rates were low and now that rates have gone up they haven’t factored this into their profit margins

Nobody forced them to make risky business decisions.

This is the consequences of their actions and shouldn’t be anyone else’s problem.

Is there any significance to people using emojis that match their skin tone?

I’m asking because as a light-skinned male, I always use the standard Simpsons yellow. I don’t really see other light-skinned people using an emoji that matches their skin tone, but often do see people of color use them. Maybe white people don’t naturally realize a need to be explicit with emoji skin-tone or perhaps it’s...

kent_eh , (edited )

Everyone simply saw the yellow ones as neutral toned.

I use those ones because they’re closer to the top of the list, therefore faster to scroll to when I’m choosing an emoji.

kent_eh ,

I don’t really care who originally came up with a good idea, I only care that it gets implemented.

kent_eh ,

but it’s kinda hard to mop the floors where I work from home.

Yeah, the “everyone should work from home” factions seems to ignore those of us whose work requires us being able to touch the things we’re working on.
