dan1101 , in The Constitution Prohibits Trump From Ever Being President Again

It seems like a conviction would very much help to prove what trump did. Otherwise it’s just accusations.

jayrhacker ,
@jayrhacker@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, we really don't want state election officials individually determining who's qualified and who's not…

Javish , in Nickelback, Chris Brown, and other stars scored $200 million in taxpayer funds meant to keep arts groups afloat during the pandemic. They won't say what they did with the money.

ikidd , in Affidavits reveal what evidence police used to raid Kansas newspaper
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

Hopefully every fucking warrant for the last decade get combed through with a magnifying glass and every one of these criminals face charges.

Gpinmg ,

Don’t worry, an independent panel of police officers already found them innocent of any wrongdoing.

naticus ,

It was so obvious they are innocent that the panel didn’t have to even go there or look at anything.

tider06 ,

To top it off, they awarded those under investigation an extra month of PTO and a settlement for the PTSD they experienced for being under such scrutiny!

phoneymouse , in Trader Joe’s crackers recalled because they might contain metal

Let’s be real, TJ is mostly cheap food with lots of marketing fluff.

charles ,

Yeah, like all store brands, there can be some good finds. And I think TJ has a higher hit ratio than most stores, but it’s still far from most of them.

I’ve been really into their small lot coffee lately. It’s just as good as the crafty stuff around here (Seattle) and literally half the price.

JoBo , in Both Parents Agree: The Child Is Being Harmed. Which One Will the Court Believe?

But she did learn that during the initial investigation Bruce spontaneously confessed to police officers, court officials and child welfare investigators that decades earlier, at age 16, he had sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl. According to police reports, Bruce said he performed a sex act on the child while babysitting her on a joint family vacation in the Poconos. (Colorado police did not open a case because the incident had taken place outside their jurisdiction.)

“There was no victim in that situation except myself,” Bruce told me. “That alleged victim did not suffer and had no recollection of it. But I beat myself up for decades thinking that I was fucked up, right? The silver lining being I finally told everybody. And everybody said: ‘Dude, you were young and stupid and pubescent. … Don’t beat yourself up about that.’”

It is true that a lot of adolescents do terrible things because adolescence is a difficult time. And true that the vast majority will grow up into decent adults. But this is a full grown man claiming that the abuse harmed him, the abuser, and not the child he abused. It is evidence that he absolutely remains a danger, on top of all the other evidence that he is, in fact, a danger. He can and will rationalise anything away to protect his own fucked up psyche.

I hope the publicity helps the kid. What he’s been forced to endure is monstrous.

jeffw OP ,
@jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, that was pretty weird shit to say. Idk if publicity is gonna help. Imagine everyone you know knowing that your dad molested and abused you… probably tough shit for a kid

JoBo ,

The dad still has custody, with apparent impunity for ongoing abuse. Everyone knowing about it is the least of the kid’s worries.

Nastybutler , in Russia's first lunar mission in 47 years smashes into the moon in failure

Are we referring to Musk as a glitch now?

Candelestine , in Hot air balloon pilot with cocaine in his system made a mistake that caused fatal crash, NTSB finds

Weed probably hurt more than the coke in this case. Power lines are extremely difficult to see from above, instead of looking for them against the background of the sky, where they stand out, you’re looking for them against the background of the ground.

They blend right the fuck in. You have to look for the poles, and you have to be sharp about it.

Compound that with the fact that the balloonist wouldn’t be that low if he wasn’t trying to land, probably because he’s starting to run low on fuel, or the potential spots in his direction of travel just look worse and worse. Roadways are good spots, generally, but the power lines frequently associated with them are a well-known issue.

Pilots should be sober though. Stone sober. While 99% of your flights may be dull and boring, the balloon goes where the wind blows it, so you never know if today might be that 1%.

chunkystyles ,

I’ve almost hit power lines before. Them shits can be basically invisible depending on the circumstances.

Being sober is essential, though.

Pratai , in Man disparages Pride flag, then kills shopkeeper in California

It’s about time conservatives are designated as a terrorist organization. What is holding this up?

pivot_root ,

The conservatives in office. Why would you designate your own as terrorists when you can designate non-conservative protesters as terrorists instead?

Burn_The_Right , in Ramaswamy changes tune on Trump ahead of GOP debate: ‘Not the same Donald Trump’

What the fuck is happening here? Conservatives are never, ever, ever going to elect a brown dude named “Ramaswamy”. He knows they are racist right? It’s truly bizarre watching him pander to a hate group.

mosiacmango ,

Running for president is a classic way to get press, to maybe later actually get elected to a lower office like senator, or maybe to launch a news network that includes your name.

One problem with the above is that sometimes the electorial college does stupid things and actually elects attention seekers and abject fucking maniacs to office instead.

Jikal , in Nickelback, Chris Brown, and other stars scored $200 million in taxpayer funds meant to keep arts groups afloat during the pandemic. They won't say what they did with the money.

Well, it wasn’t to make good music

Especially_the_lies , in Georgia teacher fired after reading book on gender to fifth-grade class

I’m a teacher. I bought this book for my own children. It’s a book about being true to yourself, even when you don’t feel like you fit in. You don’t have to be “blue” or “pink” if you feel like you fit into both categories.

Yes, it’s a book about being trans, but there are other ways to read the book, especially if your audience is young. Accepting and loving yourself. Inclusion. Tolerance. It’s a sweet book, and so of course people are going to get mad… it teaches kids acceptance, not hate!

Cleverdawny ,

Yeah. That’s the problem Republicans have with it

WhatAmLemmy ,

FlyingSquid ,
