Jikal , in Nickelback, Chris Brown, and other stars scored $200 million in taxpayer funds meant to keep arts groups afloat during the pandemic. They won't say what they did with the money.

Well, it wasn’t to make good music

Especially_the_lies , in Georgia teacher fired after reading book on gender to fifth-grade class

I’m a teacher. I bought this book for my own children. It’s a book about being true to yourself, even when you don’t feel like you fit in. You don’t have to be “blue” or “pink” if you feel like you fit into both categories.

Yes, it’s a book about being trans, but there are other ways to read the book, especially if your audience is young. Accepting and loving yourself. Inclusion. Tolerance. It’s a sweet book, and so of course people are going to get mad… it teaches kids acceptance, not hate!

Cleverdawny ,

Yeah. That’s the problem Republicans have with it

WhatAmLemmy ,

If it promotes acceptance of “others”, conservatism HATES it.

100_kg_90_de_belin ,

They shrank their whole political agenda down to “we hate them because they ain’t us”

Five people downvoted you. What the fuck is wrong with those people? How insecure can they be to downvote a comment like this and not even respond?

BEZORP ,

I'm not seeing any downvotes on the kbin web app

YoBuckStopsHere , in Russia's first lunar mission in 47 years smashes into the moon in failure
@YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world avatar

Russia isn’t the Soviet Union, they clearly are unable to control the little technology they have left.

originalucifer ,
@originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com avatar

i am kinda surprised their space program didnt fall apart sooner. foreign interest in said program somewhat helped maybe.

jonne ,

For a while the Soyuz spacecraft was the only way to get up to the ISS, so I’m sure NASA and ESA were helping them any way they could to keep those working.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

And the Soyuz is barely upgraded 1960s technology. Amazing that NASA relied on it.

SheeEttin ,

They had to. The government killed the Shuttle without an immediate replacement.

Young scientists fled Russia because they would be forced to fight in Putin’s stupid war.

ArugulaZ , in Man disparages Pride flag, then kills shopkeeper in California

Oh, so the kill-billy was also killed? I love a happy ending!

Snapz , in Trump to release taped interview with Tucker Carlson, skipping GOP debate

“Paul Joseph Goebbels was a German Nazi politician who was the Gauleiter of Berlin, chief propagandist for the Nazi Party, and then Reich Minister of Propaganda from 1933 to 1945.”

Pity

I doubt the pictures were deleted or anything, they just fucked up the link shortener.

Aviandelight , in Affidavits reveal what evidence police used to raid Kansas newspaper
@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

Small town pissing contest becomes nationwide concern because once again police show everyone that they believe they are the law. The irony in this is the paper never even had to publish the story to get it out. The cops did that with their actions.

ArtieShaw ,
@ArtieShaw@kbin.social avatar

It's really amazing. Literally everyone in the US would have continued to not know or care about these people until this blew up - and it's all their own doing! It's like the Streisand Effect, but without the subjects already being in any way already known or noteworthy.

tabarnaski , in Russia's first lunar mission in 47 years smashes into the moon in failure

“The apparatus moved into an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the Moon,” Roskosmos said in a statement.

It has ceased to exist, it is bereft of life! This is an ex-apparatus!

SulaymanF , in American Airlines sues Skiplagged, claiming cheap tickets are ‘classic bait and switch’

Didn’t Skiplagged survive previous lawsuits?

Dangdoggo ,
@Dangdoggo@kbin.social avatar

Yes because even though doing it can get you put on the no fly list because they can just put whoever they want on the no fly list, it still isn't illegal and as other commentors have pointed out all airlines need do to end skiplagging is structure their pricing differently and they will not.

Astroturfed ,

They’re charging you for convenience. A time honored end stage capitalist tradition. We are but filthy peasants for them to extract capital from.

expatriado , in X glitch wipes out most pictures and links tweeted before December 2014

losing old media, just like myspace

mercano , in American Airlines sues Skiplagged, claiming cheap tickets are ‘classic bait and switch’
@mercano@lemmy.world avatar

The airlines can end this practice pretty quick by charging less for a direct flight to the connecting city than they do for a two-legged flight though it. We prohibited the railroads from doing this sort of thing back in 1887 with the Interstate Commerce Act.

Astroturfed ,

That’s back before we gave up any semblance of real democracy and legalized bribery though. Now you can do massive multi million dollar stock buybacks during good times and cry poor house and demand a bailout anytime you hit a bump in the road. They make the rules now.

DeriHunter , in Elon Musk's X follower count bloated by millions of new, inactive accounts

I swear to god, you can’t scroll all in lemmy these days… Every other post is about Twitter or elon musk… I don’t understand why people stay there, talk about it and giving this man child the attention

fuck this platform and fuck this guy

fernandorincon ,

Yeah, we need some sort of Elon Musk filter

walrusintraining ,

There’s a lot of apps that let you filter words or phrases if it’s not built into lemmy

BradleyUffner ,

Yeah! Why would people be interested in talking about some of the biggest names in tech making idiotic decisions motivated by greed, hubris, and vanity? That’s totally boring! We should all be talking about switching to Linux, beans, and flashlights!!!

Melody , in Georgia made it easier for parents to challenge school library books. Almost no one has done so

I applaud Georgia for actually passing a law that makes sense.

There’s no reason why anyone who isn’t a parent of a current student should have any right to Object to books in a school’s library.

They’re already shitting up the public libraries with their senseless challenges.

Dark_Arc ,
@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

I’m not sure this is applause worthy. Why do we need this in the first place (other than FUD about “large scale” indoctrination)?
