I don’t use nginx proxy manager but websocket has to be enabled for apps that use websockets (duh) - you would have to dive into docs or example infra configs to check if the service uses it.
Rule of thumb here would be to enable it for everything. Optionally you could check if the service works with/without it.
E: Websockets are used when a website needs to talk in “real-time” with the servers - live views and graphs will usually use it also notifications, generally if the website does not reload/redraw fully but data seems to change then there is a high chance it uses websockets under the hood (but there are ways to do it without ws, ex. SSE).
Example: Grafana uses websockets but qbittorrent web ui uses other means (SSE) and does not require ws.
Remember, if the thick cloud emitted by the egg only drifts upwards, it's probably no good.
No, this graphic really is solid advice for people to know, but damn if it could have been designed with a little more forethought. Imagine, for instance, if the reader is yellow/blue colorblind. They could make a guess at what's happening, but they may not quite be sure. Arrows are doing 99% of the lifting, here.
I don’t get it, I’m on iOS 17 and can move them around? I came from a pixel and I was surprised that you could. And you can also stack widgets which is nice
The only two that have been good to me and still going strong is Plex and PocketCasts with their lifetime memberships. That was a good deal. But too many to name that turned out to absolutely not lifetime. GPS systems definitely the worst culprits.
I was so close to buying PocketCasts’ lifetime license, and then they switched to subscription-only. Still salty about it, because it’s the best podcatcher by far!
Wait, do we actually get something for our old lifetime Pocketcasts licenses? Because I remember when they switched the app to being free, with any extra features being locked behind a subscription, existing licenses holders got… not anything, as far as I remember. I’ve been using the app daily for years now, and have no reason to give it up, but I don’t feel like having bought the license back in the day is getting me anything extra over what a new free-tier user is getting now. Am I missing something?
Plex has been good to me but I grow ever more concerned that they will drop lifetime Plex pass features as they become more focused on being a provider of media and not just a streaming middleman.
Huh. Years ago I tried pocket casts, podcast addict, and podcast republic. I chose republic since it fitted my usage better. They have not gone subscription. I bought the app once years ago and that’s been it. I’m not sure if the free version is ad supported.
I would have been very disappointed had I bought pocket casts and then found I was locked out of some features later. I have dropped other apps that did that, after leaving them bad reviews
It breaks immersion if the guy you hire as “weird hobo that dwells in your garden” to show off to your upper class friends is seen outside that context.
I live in a tropical country. If I don’t refrigerate at least the vast majority of the vegetables I buy immediately, they will be rotten in like two days at max.
I like GoG because I can download an executable and load it into wine, which is less easy with steam for Mac. Though they make that harder these days than they used to.
I know the Mac isn’t ideal for gaming but I don’t want to buy a whole other computer and have to deal with KVM and monitor switching just to play games that were released in 2004.
I use telegram mostly because it have great features and its certainly better than any meta apps in privacy and private enough imo. It was easy to get my friends and family on telegram because they loved those features, signal is just… boring.
It’s fun though. I’m glad they keep an eye on this stuff because I don’t and someone definitely should. But it really is just a hobby. It’s fun how serious they take it. Super serious hobby lol. Love them to death though. Greatful too!
I don’t like whatsapp either but my claim still holds. e2ee by default for all chats is arguably more privacy respecting than opt-in e2ee for 1-1 chats only. and what metadata exactly does telegram encrypt but whatsapp does not?
only if you are terrorist or do some CP stuff. Besides there are ton of reasons why I should use telegram. Its a lot more featureful, its easy for people to move their and its secure enough for me because I am not a terrorist and I dont sell drugs, thanks.
Sure, but we have to consider what other people wants too, and if they are getting alot of feature in a single app without any big compromise, they would prefer that and thats perfectly logical.
From my experience of getting other people on Signal, the main issue is that not everyone is already on it. People generally want to use only one app and it attracts them to the most popular one because they don’t need to switch as much.
Secondary issues are:
No automatic phone transfer (no cloud backups, has to be done manually)
No large public channels
I might add another one, but it applies to WhatsApp too - it’s crazy that there’s still no easy way to move between iOS and Android…
OTOH telegram gives you option to export your whatsapp chats there making migration a bit more convenient. For the last point, yeah it sucks a lot and fuck whoever is responsible for that…
