Embracer rolls out new AI policy to 'massively enhance game development' | Game Developer (www.gamedeveloper.com)

Article textNewly-restructured Swedish conglomerate, Embracer Group, will leverage AI models to bolster game production. As noted in Embracer’s annual report, the company has adopted a new AI policy package it claims has the capability to “massively enhance” its production process by “increasing resource efficiency,...

CaptDust ,

Ignore the thousands of employees we’ve laid off, we have AI that is going to QUADRUPLE our productivity. I’m talking AAAA-AAAA games here, folks. The best is yet to come, it’s going to be fantastic.

Who was the US Republican die-hard neo-lib Senator

Paul Ryan, he should never be allowed to live it down. After Tom Morello put Ryan on blast, Ryan clarified he likes the sound but hates the lyrics lmao…

CaptDust ,

This is an ICM Self Check In Kiosk, which features a “passenger feedback camera” and offers “a single token end to end processing experience”.

Basically exactly what you think it is, an advanced biometric system for reading your face. I don’t think airports have it activated yet, but maybe one day you’ll be able to check in without scanning a boarding pass or passport for the low price of your privacy.

CaptDust ,

Since it needs a source to compare against, I’m curious where they captured your face info

CaptDust ,

I use rsync with a systemd timer. When I first installed the backup drive it took a while to build the file system, but now every Monday it runs, finds the difference between source and target drive, and pulls just the changes down for backup. It’s pretty quick, doesn’t do any compression or anything like that.

CaptDust ,

“Your example doesn’t work without the context of the (something) intention.”

How’d I do?

CaptDust ,

You might have them confused with Chiquita

CaptDust ,

That work around is what most states that explicitly legalized kei trucks have done, they can’t enter roads over 55mph. It’s a reasonable concession, you probably don’t want to take one over 50mph anyway.

CaptDust ,

Just noting as a reference these trucks are 11ft long, a Miata is roughly 20% longer at 13ft.

CaptDust ,

Note that I said over 55, rural connection roads should still be traversable since most are 55. Basically limits them from entering the interstate highways.

CaptDust , (edited )

I didn’t really intend for it to be a comparison or supporting the narrative these trucks are ‘too small for America’, I just find many people hear small truck and imagine “like a ford ranger but a little less”, as their starting reference point. Gotta go smaller, scale is tough.

CaptDust ,

Maybe in the 70s, a modern 500 is listed at 11.6 ft

The Curious Case Of The Underselling Arena Tours (www.stereogum.com)

“Who can afford to go to multiple shows?” says the anonymous tour manager. “Two tickets to a show, you’re talking probably about $200 with fees and everything. You go to a meal around the show, you’re talking at least $100 or $200 for a nice dinner. Then you got parking and babysitters, then you add the VIP stuff to...

CaptDust ,

It seems silly to believe every artist with a label can go on an arena tour. In my city arena shows used to be reserved for the biggest of the big. Now no touring bands will play smaller venues and simultaneously perplexed why fans won’t show up at $200 a seat. Meanwhile the medium venues are either hosting the same local bands repeatedly, or closing.

What a conundrum.

CaptDust ,

Damn that’s a name I haven’t heard in a minute. Good times.

Edit: it’s still good. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FavUpD_IjVY

CaptDust ,

It’s a PS1, the redesign was PSOne. PSX was a PS2+DVR.

CaptDust ,

But PS1 and PSX are both retail product names for different systems, I don’t see calling the Wii “Revolution”…

CaptDust ,

“The incident is widely characterized by critics as an example of mishandled customer service.”

Made me laugh, that’s putting it lightly…

CaptDust ,

United was booting passengers to make room for employee transfers though, the situation was shit before dept of aviation even got the call.

CaptDust ,

I’m not going to disagree they’re overpriced, especially the bigger collector sets, but they are built to insanely perfect tolerances and that’s never cheap. Use any generic blocks and it’s easy to see Lego manufacturing is on another level. In addition I’ve built countless sets and despite thousands of tiny pieces I’ve only had one piece missing, once. And customer support sent out that piece immediately, no questions asked.

I believe much of the cost comes from the standards they hold themselves to.

CaptDust ,

Yeah of course, but I think a lot more design goes into something like Millennium Falcon 75192 ($850) than Millennium Falcon 75375 ($85), it’s 6600 more bricks to build. The collectors builds also tend to have more specialized one off parts.

CaptDust , (edited )

Maybe I’m not the best person to ask because I don’t buy the big sets, I settled for a millennium falcon 75257 ($170). The $1000 kits aren’t worth it to me personally, I’d rather piece together MOC but I guess for someone that wants to flex or is a huge fan of a specific property, it’s available 🤷

By one off I mean they introduce specific pieces for that set, which introduces more cost with a custom mold and run to create the brick. Parts you won’t find in any other set.

CaptDust ,

I tried to give other brands a chance, primarily because Lego doesn’t dabble in war builds, but yeah I built a kit, picked it up to move it and half fell out because the bricks were not able to tightly clasp. I suppose it’s less of a problem if you glue, but notably different experiences indeed.

CaptDust ,

I know we’re way off original topic, but do you have personal experience with the chinese brands? Any specifically you’d recommend checking out?

Vimms Lair is getting removal notices from Nintendo etc. We need someone to help make a rom pack archive can you help? (slrpnk.net)

Vimms lair is starting to remove many roms that are being requested to be removed by Nintendo etc. soon many original roms, hacks, and translations will be lost forever. Can any of you help make archive torrents of roms from vimms lair and cdromance? They have hacks and translations that dont exist elsewhere and will probably be...

CaptDust ,

Damn it how will I play my annual 20 minutes of Pitfall now. This is terrible.

CaptDust ,

I’ll always have Activision Classics disc for PS1, pitfall is safe.

CaptDust ,

Some app devs are setting up their own ad networks, injecting inline ads similar to how reddit operated. I know everyone needs to eat, but it’s kinda lame when most lemmy instances the apps connect to are operated and funded purely by the generosity of random system admins.

CaptDust ,

Well, sure Google ads or whatever. I just meant it’s independent from the Lemmy platform and instance.

CaptDust ,

I’m not going to hate the company for trying, but if you’re a building admin using these instead of Oasis or Elkay fill stations you’re a huge fucking asshole.

CaptDust ,
CaptDust ,

I mean people can develop and sell whatever product they want at the price they want. Usually I’d recommend voting with your wallet, but presumably this would be up to facility management to install these for a captive audience, who wouldn’t have much choice in the matter.

“Your water subscription has increased by $1, thanks for being our customer. Reminder, creation of public fountains and bottle sharing activities are punishable by law!”

You sigh and delete the email. They send out the same message every month.

I’ll take one Grande Caffè Meowsto Classic, hold the oat milk.

This is a fair default and warning to the user.

Sorry Elon you, specifically, have to go to space before getting involved in Linux. It’s the Shuttleworth law.

McDonald’s said the average price of all menu items has risen 40% over the last five years, to account for a average increase in the cost of labor, paper and food. That is higher than overall consumer prices, which have increased 21% since December 2019

Hey it’s all good, not actually doubled! The 2% cost of living adjustments should cover it. /s

CaptDust ,

With food costs changing as they have, you likely got more value from the pizza party. That slice of pepperoni is worth at least $8.

CaptDust ,

Business 101, the real goal is to try and sell a cheaper to produce piece of shit you’ve always sold, while simultaneously raising the prices. Now that’s building value 😎

CaptDust ,

You sound like a straight-shooter with ‘upper management’ written all over ya!

He’s begged the oil industry to come up with a $1b donation for his “campaign”, this is the reach around if they make it happen.

Uninstall the gnome desktop package, reinstall the kde desktop package and that should pull the overlapping dependencies. Might need to do this from a virtual terminal, not in the desktop environment.

Or reinstall the OS.

Edit: there’s also dnf swap command available for fedora, I’m not really familiar with it’s behavior or how it acts when both DE are already installed, but maybe that could be a lead.

Edit 2: after doing reading, I’m confident you can just dnf remove @gnome-desktop. The .config files will not be impacted. Applications with overlapping KDE dependencies will belong to two groups, and the operation will keep the ones that include the KDE group. I still recommend a backup.

CaptDust ,

It shouldn’t but I’m hesitant to say it won’t. Back up all the things you don’t want to lose, this is not a risk free maneuver. However in my limited experience it was the opposite - it’ll remove the applications, but you will still have now-useless config files from the removed environment in place taking up space.

CaptDust ,

Hey op, after doing reading, I’m confident you can just dnf remove @gnome-desktop. The .config files will not be impacted. Applications with overlapping KDE dependencies will belong to two groups, and the operation will keep the ones that include the KDE group. I still recommend a backup.

CaptDust ,

Sounds like you’re rolling your own immutable os, in a way. Masochistic is an accurate description.

CaptDust ,

While I believe it should be standard to let players use locked characters in training, it’s also not standard. Full priced fighting games don’t even give access to all the characters these days, why expect f2p to be different?

CaptDust ,

I’ll just be honest, from my perspective on lemmy everything outside of porn, linux and shitposts is lacking. Interaction outside the top of hot is a wasteland of non-existence, questions go undiscovered, comments are never read. We could all be more generous with upvotes to improve visibility.

For me sfw art communities, sports, and life protips would all be nice to see grow. I miss the old photoshopbattles too, but I think that’s just fallen out of style in general.

CaptDust ,

I think it’s still in A/B testing stages, 80% of my searches don’t include the AI but it pops up occasionally. I also notice it more often on my phone, and rarely on my desktop where I’m not signed in.
