The initial post comes across to me as intentionally crafted to spread and cause mischief. But, it’s also very possibly an example of poe’s law. When you so accurately mimic stupid, how can anyone tell for sure whether it’s parody. It could just as easily be a real post.
flour products cause me joint & muscle inflammation & pain, And yes I’ve tested this with delicious comforting saltine crackers and the pain is unfortunately real 😓 fruit has this effect on me too 😭
or you can’t buy if you’re not successful enough or you’re in the wrong country. For example, in my country, the minimum cost of a 1TB SSD is about $85 and a salary of $2,000 is considered a very successful salary at the upper limit
For me it’s not about the size, it’s about the understanding. I’d really like to understand what everything on my system does and why it’s there. It seems impossible with modern systems. Back in the '90s I needed a secure email relay - it had lilo, kernel, init, getty, bash, vi, a few shell utils (before busybox…), syslogd and sendmail. I’m not sure any more as it was a long time ago, but I think I even statically linked everything so there was no libc. I liked that system.
What I find interesting is that no one is asking about the quality of code, nor do they seem concerned about the dependencies but they do care about that one package/app/program of any size they see and don’t immediately know why it’s there.
It’s not about storage. It’s about complexity getting back at you, for example not knowing what caused a problem because multiple programs are stepping on each others feet
For me it was a problem with update frequency and how long they would take. Once i got rid of my flatpaks and moved to stable firefox i update once a week instead of daily now and it takes seconds instead of minutes. Probably also solvable with auto updates.
You realize you don’t have to backup the actual “bloated” programs. Just maybe their configs and any files those programs generate that you’d like to keep, right?
That’s committing the cardinal sin of cherrypicking your backup contents. You may end up forgetting to include things that you didn’t know you needed until restore time and you’re creating a backup that is cumbersome to restore. Always remember: you should really be creating a restore strategy rather than a backup strategy.
As a general rule I always backup the filesystem wholesale, optionally exclude things of which I’m 100% sure that I don’t need it, and keep multiple copies (daylies and monthlies going some time back) so I always have a complete reference of what my system looked like at a particular point in time, and if push comes to shove I can always revert to a previous state by wiping the filesystem and copying one of the backups to it.
Maybe riding a motorcycle has made me hypersensitive to it, but it seems, yes. I see all of you and so many of you are on your cell phones while driving. It’s bad enough I’ve learned to spot you from a hundred yards behind; the subtle drift of your car, checking your speed with the brake pedal, you aren’t smooth in stop & go traffic.
It apparently is a challenge for a lot of you to stay off your phones, a-fucking-lot of you. So it looks like WisDOT is speaking to many of you like children, because many of your fellow drivers are acting like children, unable to prioritize operating their 3,000lbs+ machine safely over Instagram/tik tok/Twitter or whatever the fuck.
I’m also a motorcyclist (hold the motor) and my experience is very similar to yours.
I almost got hit a few weeks back by a car driver trying to turn right on red whilst on a fucking Facetime call, with the phone held up right in front of their face. If I hadn’t been in a rush I would have let them have an earful.
Like, please don’t ever use your phone while driving, but if you absolutely have to be a despicable human being, can you at least look away from the screen when navigating through intersections??
I got a text and opened it, was a link to a YT video from a friend and without thinking I just opened it and let the video play and was like “Hang the fuck on a second, IM DRIVING WHY THE FUCK WOULD I OPEN THAT!?!”
Once I caught myself doing it I was really annoyed at myself.
Take it from someone who knows vegetarian eating, this is a dangerously low amount of protein, and no those cheese slices do not cover it. I’d wager your daily protein macro is a single digit percentage (most sources suggest around 15-35% depending on exercise and lifestyle and all that). If this haul is your entire diet for the week and you’re not leaving out stuff you already have at home or something, I would strongly advise looking for more protein dense foods before protein deficiency starts to affect your well being. I’ve been there and it’s really not good.
Best of luck! It really sucks, and the worst part is it’s hard to notice at first, and easily written off as working too much or something until you realize you’re doing it to yourself. I’ve heard good things about pea protein but sadly it’s not really a thing in my country yet so I haven’t had a chance to try it.
Anyway, whey powder can be pretty cheap these days (they have cheese so dairy isn’t a restriction), and there are enough duplicates in this picture that they could cut a couple things and keep the same price point if the budget is tight.
Yeah, the crazy thing is reflecting back, now that I have recent bloodwork showing just how low my protein levels are. I was totally attributing the lethargy to stress from work. I mean, I was stressed (have since changed jobs), and started having panic attacks, but who’s to say that wasn’t exacerbated by an unbalanced diet. I feel soooo much better, and more energized, now that I’m getting the right amount of protein.
Pea protein is great, and the same price here as whey. I actually like the unflavored taste, too. I just mix it with water.
It is kinda an extra expense tho, since it’s not necessarily replacing meals. Still eating lunch & dinner, just adding shakes in between. But absolutely worth it!
Assuming this is representative of everything OP has to eat in the time frame these were purchased for. They might have meats in the freezer, dried/canned beans, etc. that these items will be paired with.
Yeah, missed that, however my point still stands. This could be more just component items for longer term shelf life stuff, and snacks. They still could have beans, lentils, rice, etc at home and these things are just to make specific meals through the week or whatever.
I would assume they want the SS# to verify employment history, however IME nobody has ever actually checked my past history or at least didn’t call me out on my lies.
Work history is what references are for. They do not need your SSN until they start withholding SS benefits for you. I think I used to include my address on ye olde papier résumés I would send out, so not sure how much I’d want to die on that particular hill.
I recently started a part time job, less than 15 hrs /wk, $15/hr. I had to get a background check, drug test, and they called my university to verify my degree (which i only know about because I have a friend who works in the office there.)
The onboarding process for my business you complete the E-Verify I-9 form, then come in with Passport/SS/ID card and verify then. Asking for SS numbers or address through a form like this is unnecessary and not safe.
One company I worked for really sat down and did it I know because one of my ex-employers had folded and they called me about how they couldn’t reach them.
If I was employed by the employer, 100% they’ll get the address. This is for an APPLICATION. That you don’t even know for sure is the actual company. I hope people aren’t just giving their address out to any faceless “person” on the Internet that asks.
It’s so they can weed out potential applicants that are experiencing homelessness.
Same reason that so many jobs use algorithms to screen out applicants. They don’t want to hire anyone outside of their current networks. Nepotism is totally legal, just look at Jared Kushner
It is assumed that there are more than one billion websites worldwide. It is therefore not exactly unlikely that a Linux user will not access any of these 1.5 million websites.
Furthermore, it is quite common for Linux users to use tools such as Pi-Hole that simply block such statistics scripts. This means that these users would not be counted even if they accessed one of these 1.5 million websites. For my part, I also use computers with Linux that I don’t use to access websites. Some of these computers don’t even have access to the Internet. They are therefore not counted either.
Finally, let’s come to the most important point. Percentage values say not much if you don’t know the actual number of users behind them. Let’s assume, for example, that 3.5 per cent Linux users were detected in December and only 3 per cent in January. However, if the total number of users was higher in January, it is therefore possible that more users were detected in January.
I think someone had estimated recently that Linux has about 50 mil desktop users. I think that sounds like a lot… I’d personally put that number to about 10 mil tops. I think the higher number we’re seeing these days is related to Steam OS.
This happened in New South Wales, in a very rural area. People are not going to commute out to this remote location for minimum wage.
Kids volunteer on the weekends and parents sign off on it.
Some of the kids like it because they don’t have anything else to do, they learn a job skill, and they make a little money.
That said, I don’t agree with it. Hire adults and do what everyone else does by having a “bring your child to work day/week” if you want to teach kids. Or make a field trip. Let’s not go backwards in society to benefit companies.
Having partially grown up with this shit, I would say these asshole can absolutely get fucked and do the work themselves. They good enough to count beans, they good enough to clear the land, plant em, take care of them, harvest them, and sell 'em all before they get to do beancounting duties. You count the beans you bring to market by the sweat of your own brows, no exceptions
Might help them realize why Protestant work ethic shit is garbage exploiter nonsense
I made this exact argument yesterday on the shit hole formerly known as Reddit, and of course got nothing but backlash from angry neck beards who think everyone should be allowed to pull themselves up by their bootstraps at the age of 11.
Yeah, but that’s not a chicken-specific thing. The actual infographic is utter horseshit, of course. Especially with recommending so many greens, as if cats can do more with that than pass them unprocessed and then demand more food as they expelled non-trivial amounts of energy on it.
Animals in the wild die of food poisoning all the time; that doesn’t mean that we should have our pets doing the same. It’s a bit like playing Russian roulette, the risk is better than outright starving, but it isn’t riskless.
Also, I’m not sure but I think that battery farming increases the proliferation of salmonella.
My cat is bipolar, OK? Her vet prescribed lithium and she’s getting it! Otherwise she becomes like the feline equivalent of that squirrel from Over The Edge.
Someone else asked if this was a real thing (I also had my doubts) so I did some quick searching – as far as I can tell this is legit. I also found a macro photography site that has a bunch of adorable pictures.
