Tbf a lot of things that people did by hand in the past would be unthinkable for a lot of modern people as to how to achieve it without CAD etc.

YouTube Hype gives smaller creators a place to shine (www.theverge.com)

With a new feature called Hype, YouTube is trying to focus on growing the smaller channels and helping people discover and share new creators. Hype is an entirely new promotional system inside of YouTube: there’s a new button for hyping a video, and the most-hyped videos will appear on a platform-wide leaderboard. It’s a bit...

Venator ,

Now they’ll be plugging thier second and third channels too 😅

Some was 16mm but probably mostly shot straight to vhs:

www.imdb.com/title/tt0096657/technical/?ref_=tt_s…

And the bbc was notoriously bad at not losing archival footage of tv shows

Venator , (edited )

Yeah I’m not saying they didn’t edit it, but rather the master footage they were editing was on vhs or similar. I guess it’s probably quite likely they would’ve had some sort of better quality magnetic tape rather than vhs though come to think of it though ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Why would you need to entirely cancel the earths orbital velocity, surely you just need to cancel a tiny bit of orbital velocity?

Edit: …stackexchange.com/…/do-you-need-0-km-s-velocity-…

Venator ,

But you’d need a higher velocity to orbit closer…

There are much safer designed ones from reputable companies, these ones are drop shipped ones where they’ll put anyone’s logo on them, and have a very poorly thought out design.

Venator ,

Even products from reputable companies can malfunction

That’s true, and always best to look up reviews and analysis of the design, most wouldn’t fail in such a catastrophic way if one of the sensors were to malfunction. But yeah, scooping it manually is definitely the safest option.

Venator ,

They should install automated blinds like some high end luxury cars have except make them out of that silvery windscreen sunshade stuff.

Venator ,

Just use corded except for the hand drill.

Venator ,

Maybe upgrade to cordless if you find it’s needed later or see one for cheap.

Venator ,

That’s true for professionals, but if you’re doing some light DIY the cost of the tools is probably more significant than the inefficiencies. Also corded stuff is generally so much cheaper, especially second hand, that it won’t even matter if you have to replace some of the ones you’re using frequently with cordless, and then at least you have a backup if you forget to charge it or run out of battery.

Venator ,

They’re not usually case sensitive.

Maybe that’s how you can tell chatgpt has done it, it bothers to put some letters capitalised 😅

Venator ,

I wish he’d made this video 10 years ago when I had one of these doors right outside my apartment 😅

Venator ,

The zeitgeist isn’t something that something can be in service to, it is the resulting cultural mood from other things that are being served.

I think you mean it serves the status quo.

Venator ,

Reminds me of screenshots of internet explorer with 20 search bar addons from the 2000s 🤣

Venator ,

Took me a minute to realise R34 wasn’t referring to the car 😅

Venator ,

If they have an Amiga they probably don’t have an amiga 😅

Venator ,

At the moment AI is less creative and more derivative, but it could be in par or better in the future.

The bigger issue is that we’re living in a world that has a lot of artificial scarcity and people still have to work to survive, and AI is taking away many of the only jobs that make life worth living while doing it worse but also a lot cheaper.

Venator ,

This meme would be better if the photoshoping was worse…

Venator ,

Especially when they have no numbers.

Venator ,

Real reason is probably that the schools don’t have the budget to pay for the batteries, or for someone to make sure the time is correct on all of them in the school…

Venator ,

In that case the rats probably ate the wires and they can’t afford to repair it… 😅

Venator ,

The lighting is always way too good, looks like a model shoot or 3d animated movie where a team of people spent ages tweaking all the light positions and brightness.

Venator ,

At first glance it may look like they have the same flag, but NZ and Australia are actually separate countries.

Venator ,

I don’t know but I wouldn’t be surprised if those words are the reason for the * being included on the keyboard in the first place 😅

Venator ,

Wouldn’t it make more sense just to use × instead if that was the case? I guess maybe it makes it easier to differentiate it from x?

I guess it’s probably just a hold over from typewriters that ended up setting the standard for computers e.g. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_2741

Venator ,

She has a more gear than the dude: a visor … 😅

Venator , (edited )

Filming 8K in a raw format maybe? (a lot of cameras only have an SD card slot, or only the sd card slot is fast enough to record raw at higher resolutions)

You probably wouldn’t need to take it out of the camera either? so the form factor wouldn’t be major concern.

Venator , (edited )

Also could be handy for smuggling banned movies/tv shows into authoritarian countries that block or outlaw unauthorised VPNs?

Venator ,

Also useful for devices where you want more storage but the device only has an SD card slot, or other slots are already occupied or sd card is just easier such as phones, Nintendo switch, steam deck, ultra light laptops, raspberry pi…

Venator , (edited )

if only there was some way to play these games, in a browser, for nothing

Venator ,

I was quoting him, as an example of one of the reasons the post was downvoted. Sorry for the confusion. I should’ve added more context.

Why do people complain about multiple streaming platforms existing?

People (including me) complain about monopolies all the time for various reasons. At the same time, I’ve noticed a ton of complaints about the existence of multiple streaming platforms. But isn’t that a good thing at the end of the day? If streaming platforms consolidated into 2-3 companies, there wouldn’t be much stopping...

Venator ,

For keeping track of what episode you’re up to, maybe try plex or something

Venator ,

Why does Google do any of the dumb shit they do?

Venator ,

Discontinuing products seems more like it would be to justify laying them off?

Venator ,

That’s how they make the water cool 😎

Venator ,

In addition to the other advice, also turn your graphics down, it seems like the keyboard steering smoothing happens on a frame by frame basis and just doesn’t work well generally, but the lower your framerate is, the worse it gets.

Or just use the metro/fast travel 😅

Venator ,

But that would be “Don’t cook Chicken in Toaster!”

Venator ,

Also doesn’t even actually help the country grow financially if if all goes to a tax haven…

Venator , (edited )

Why would you want a specific time complexity? Wouldn’t it be better if it’s faster? /s

Venator , (edited )

Not only that they’ll probably start using all sorts of surveillance data that Google and Facebook etc. have for all sort of things that people don’t expect e.g. Maybe use GPS data to issue speeding tickets…

Venator , (edited )

google cache version

That feature was hard to find though, had to search cache:https://www.eff.org/files/2024/07/29/eff-treaty-un-pagers.pdfand apparently access to google cache is going away entirely soon, so I saved the google cache to the way back machine too

Venator ,

IANAL: It sounds like the EFF recommendation probably wouldn’t help prevent it from being used to investigate ad blocking and piracy:

Recommendation: Restrict the definition to “core cybercrimes” like technical attacks on computers, devices, data, and communications systems. Exclude human rights-protected activities from the scope of the treaty to prevent misuse and ensure these rights are not unjustly targeted due to equating cybercrime with any crime using ICT.

Since blocking ads and piracy aren’t likely to be directly related to human rights protected activities, and they’ll probably stretch the definition of “core cybercrimes” to include those…
