Yeah I should have known, started the thing at 12:26 (actually know this because I called my wife to check if we had 3 hours and 38 minutes before we needed to go), its 17:18 and I just got the door open…

sbexpert ,

If you haven’t already, clean the dryer vent thoroughly, including the whole exhaust vent leading outside. This should be done at least once a year. Once the vent is clear it should speed up drying, if not it might be the dryer itself and the manual might have solutions.

Here are some guides: familyhandyman.com/…/how-to-clean-a-dryer-vent/home.howstuffworks.com/…/dryer-vent-cleaning.htm

I wish we had the space to have separate machines for washing and drying, it’s a lot better unless if you’re a single guy with minimal amount of clothes to wash.

Insert a joke about kidnapping Mormons here.

Anticorp ,

I let some Mormons come in once when I was in my early 20’s because I wanted to confirm some things I had heard about their religion that they usually don’t share with outsiders. We talked for about an hour and then I asked them to leave. They came back the next day with their leader, and we talked some more. Then they came back the next day with their leader, and his leader! At that point I just told them point blank that it was nice talking to them, but I’m never converting to Mormonism, so stop coming back. To their credit, they said okay and left. It was an interesting experience.

Death_Equity ,

If you kept that going much longer most of Provo would have been at your door.

tygerprints ,

Well I'm pretty anti-mormon even though I live in Utah. I guess shouldn't be so hard on them, they're not bad people really and I have mistreated them quite often. They do have weird beliefs (in my view) but when you're raised with that mindset it's not really your fault for believing it. Our neighbors are mormon and they're always looking after us, shovel our driveway when it snows and check to see if we're doing OK. I'd like to think that's how neighbors SHOULD be no matter their religious ideas.

Anticorp ,

Mormons seem to walk the walk a lot more than other religions I’ve been exposed to. They generally live by the rules they espouse, and they have a robust support network for their members, including things like discount grocery stores. It’s not for me, but as religious people go, they seem pretty okay.

tygerprints ,

I've lived among them for 65 years and there are good people and bad, as in every other circumstance. The mormons do live by the rules they espouse (which isn't so great for mormon women) but, they also do take care of neighbors in need and always bring over food when they make too much. I can't fault them for trying to be as good mormons as possible. But I do object to the term "Latter Day Saints" because, to me, no human is meant to be a saint. We're meant to be human and have human failings and learn from them.

sramder , to cat in Went to the vet yesterday since my boy was acting weird. Turns out he was showing very mild signs of paralysis.
@sramder@lemmy.world avatar

Good luck, hopefully he responds well to the shots. I’m glad you noticed something was wrong early.

jacktherippah OP ,

Thank you ❤️. Honestly, it was really really weird. He was his usual playful self, running and jumping all over the place. And then suddenly out of nowhere he screeched really loud from the other room. When I checked up on him he was just on the ground meowing out. And then he started walking weird, didn’t come out for food (had to pick him up and bring him to the bowl), his tail got all weird so I brought him to the vet. It was literally like a switch flipped. Looking back now, I’m feeling really guilty. Maybe there were warning signs and I missed them, idk.

Enkers ,

That doesn’t sound like anything you did wrong. Maybe it was just the kitty equivalent of bending over weirdly and throwing out your back.

This happened to my old man cat when he fell off the couch. I was beside myself with grief because I thought it was the end. He recovered and kept on going after that though.

farfarawaay ,

I agree with the other person, it doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong. It’s incredibly difficult to gauge what’s worthy of going to the doctor about for your own ass, let alone for a little fluff ball who cannot tell you what’s happening to them. You did alright OP, don’t you dare think otherwise. Take care of your boy, and you.

FarFarAway ,

It sounds like you caught it pretty early. Earlier than where it would be at for many pet parents.

Just give him love and encouragement, and do what you can to help him out. Try and reassure him the best you can through this uncertainty. Im sure hes just as confused about whats happening to him as you are. Sometimes things just happen. All you can do is to be the best friend to him that you can be and hopefully treatment will help.

You did good and you’re giving it all you got. That’s what counts.

Also, depending on the diagnosis, treatment needs, where your located, and your amount of resources, there maybe places with state of the art facilities that can help. Here we have Texas A&M. They can handle things like rare disease, chemo, dialysis, and complicated surgeries. If it looks like the appropriate thing to do, it maybe worth asking your vet if there’s someplace like that around you.

Good luck and I wish you guys the best.

jacktherippah OP ,

Yeah, the vet said the symptoms were mild so I’m hopeful.

Empricorn ,

No, no, no. Cats are really really good at hiding when there’s something wrong, even if they completely trust you. My kitty started walking stiffly and wasn’t playing as much. I made an appointment, because I thought it was arthritis or something as she was getting old, and that’s something the vet helped me to understand.

Slowy ,
@Slowy@lemmy.world avatar

Weird, but they don’t think he injured himself?

KpntAutismus ,

that’s what i would think, maybe a bad fall.

but the vet will probably figure it out soon, they’re the professional.

TheFriar ,

Hi there. I don’t want to alarm you at all, but something very similar happened to my baby. She’s still with me, but she had sudden partial paralysis and she was in the emergency vet for three days.

She was running and then suddenly her back end wasn’t moving properly or at all and she was howling. I rushed her in and they kept her, after those first few days they decided it was a blood clot in her spine by the base of her tail.

It was a long road and we’re still on that road two years later, but it was touch and go. I would mention a spinal blood clot to your vet to get their take/see what they can find out as these seem like the most similar cases I’ve come across—or at least you’re the first person I’ve heard that has a simile story.

Thankfully your little one doesn’t seem to have it as bad, because Liz Lemon was, I’m pretty sure, 50% paralyzed immediately.

Please take care of your buddy, as I’m sure you are of course. It was a very scary situation and has definitely changed her life (and mine, as we are dealing with partial incontinence), but she’s managed to continue to live a happy special kitty life. The burden is now mostly on me, which I’m happy to take on so she can thrive.

Let me know if you have any questions and best of luck to both of you!!

Edit: just as reassurance, mine was an emergency-vet-right-the-fuck-now situation, which thankfully yours does not sound like it’s to that degree. Her tail and back legs were affected, both inert, back legs more stiff while her tail drooped. Again, you seem to have a better situation on your hands, relatively, but the symptoms sound similar enough to mention to your vet. I hope this can help at least give you all one more possible cause to look at. Best to you all, I’m sure your boy will come through this just fine!

jacktherippah OP ,

Woah…tysm, I’ll ask the vet.

TheFriar ,

Best of luck! And again, your situation sounds similar enough for my situation to offer you some insight, but it really does seem like your boy isn’t in as bad of a situation as my girl was. So I really hope my news doesn’t devastate you or anything. It just took my vet a long time to narrow down what was happening, so if something to look for could serve as a helping hand, I’d be glad something good came out of it.

How’s he doing today?

jacktherippah OP ,

He’s doing better! He’s walking better, can run a little bit, can jump a little bit too, and just generally seems more agile. Got his second shot!

TheFriar ,

That’s amazing! It sounds like maybe our babies’ situations were similar but just on very different scales and his resolved itself more harmlessly. Hopefully it’s just something to keep an eye on. I’m so glad to hear he’s doing well today. Here’s to him continuing down this healthful road!

Without the built-in sexual release valve provided by masturbation, it’s doubtful that early humans would have ever mastered the secrets of fire or discovered the wheel. What would make someone so disillusioned to believe Trump would be good for America

The same exact things that made them disillusioned 6 years ago? Their life is getting worse at an accelerated pace and have been for many decades now. The “System” does not work for them and they are tired of pretending it does.

Despite ‘Bidenomics’ - we, the working class, are poorer now than we have ever been. Trump is still a hand grenade to throw at the establishment.

They don’t believe the Democrats have their best interests, and a substantial number don’t believe Republicans have their best interests at heart - which is why it’s Trump or Bust. Trump represents to them what Bernie represented to Democrats - actual change.

But it doesn’t really matter what I, or anyone else, says. You’ve already decided what you think about all of these people.

They don’t believe the Democrats have their best interests, and a substantial number don’t believe Republicans have their best interests at heart - which is why it’s Trump or Bust.

This is fallacy. It may work to attract a certain type a voter but in practice Trump bends over backwards to appease the GOP. He lines his cabinet and campaign with GOP old guard and is set out to accomplish GOP policy goals. Not once in my interactions with any Trump supporters have they hinted at doing anything that wouldn’t be aligned with typical conservative ideology. Trump is the GOPs creation. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I often think of it like blood. Blood has to be continually flowing for a body to live. It's right and natural that there should be more of it in some places than others. The parts of the body that work the hardest usually need a lot of blood. But if blood starts pooling anywhere, you've got a problem. Or really, you've got two problems: there's not enough blood everywhere else and the blood in the pool turns sour.
