possible slut

Oh no, I could’ve gotten laid! 😭

13esq ,

I’d argue that the word means that you care more about having “fun” than having “virtue”, but as long as noone is getting hurt, I see nothing wrong with that. Life is short.

Why Greggs is beating Pret in the battle of the lunch break (www.cityam.com)

There’s an old saying in London – you’re never more than 6ft from a rat and 50m from a Pret a Manger. But the popular high street sandwich chain has struggled in recent years with consumers abandoning ship. With a rising tide of debts, it has now recalled its initial founder, Sinclair Beecham, to the top table in order to...

13esq ,

You need to take out a mortgage to eat at Pret, Greg’s is much more affordable.

A man working an average job used to earn enough to buy an average house and comfortably support his wife and kids.

Now you need two people in full-time work just to pay rent to the landlord.

The problem is inequality of wealth and the solution is make work pay.

13esq ,

Two summers ago it reached 40°C in fucking Scotland.

I unironically bought some kaftans for my wardrobe because I was fucking dying in jeans and t-shirt.

13esq ,

Well it felt like 40! lol

Nah I was thinking of the same week that it was 40 degrees in London I think and it was bad enough in Scotland.

13esq ,

It’s far better for your health to be a healthy weight and unfit than to be overweight and unfit.

13esq ,

I reasonate with this. Giving up smoking also helped my appetite.

13esq ,

You don’t need to have a level 200 IQ or 20 years experience to work out that eating less is going to help with weight loss.

13esq , (edited )

Whilst what you’re saying is true, it’s important to recognise that you can’t out run a terrible diet.

You could eat well all week, run ten miles a day and then completely ruin it by eating and drinking 20,000 calories at the weekend.

To put it simply, it doesn’t matter if you burn an amazing 5000 calories a day if you’re consuming 5500 calories.

95% of losing weight is simply eating less, there’s absolutely no need to complicate it by telling people they must radically change their diet or that they need to dedicate themselves to regimented exercise.

13esq ,

That’s true and I wasn’t trying to refute that point.

13esq , (edited )

It’s an archaic saying but that doesn’t mean that the meaning has been lost.

Almost the entire industrial revolution was coal powered and the most common fuel for heating homes was coal. Coal used to be an extremely popular and useful commodity.

Edit: I now see that you thought the town of Newcastle was the fast food chain White Castle lol. I did wonder why you were going on about grills!

13esq ,

A lot of people make fun of me for having an ebike “it’s not proper cycling etc”, but they all want to ignore the fact that without it, I would be driving (as they are).

13esq ,

I’m also interested. My work provides moulded ear plugs, but they definitely don’t let the same range of frequencies through.

13esq ,

Thanks! $200 sounds expensive but probably very worth it to save you from tinnitus or from going deaf.

13esq OP ,

The whole thing is rather strange. I assume that there are many Catholics self aware enough to know that he clearly didn’t perform any miracles but just go along with it anyway.

13esq OP ,

And I see miracles every day!

13esq OP ,

We’re talking about a religion where the son of God walked on water and fed five thousand people with five fish and two loaves of bread.

I think it’s easier to buy in to the fantasy when there are several hundreds of years between you and the so-called miracle though.

You have to remember that religious people don’t use the scientific method and that they see faith as a very virtuous characteristic.

What are some eras of gaming that you've stopped feeling nostalgic for? (kbin.social)

As I've gotten older as a player, I have found myself dropping some eras of gaming that I used to be nostalgic for. One of them is the 8-bit era, the NES days. I have played some of the best that system had to offer and I will never say that system didn't have any good games....

13esq ,

I used to get maybe three games a year and now I hardly play at all. I still have a PS3 and absolutely can’t justify upgrading.

(I’m sure loads of the new games are great, I just don’t have the time for them)

A lot of people know that the next big generation of cars is right around the corner and don’t want to spend big bucks on a gas guzzler, or even a hybrid.

There are some decent electric options available now, but if like me, you can’t afford a new vehicle, you need other people to buy them first and sell them second hand or wait for them to come off lease.

My car is currently 9 years old and I’m absolutely hoping that it lasts long enough for me to be able to buy a decent second hand electric.

13esq ,

I have a feeling that he would have said it tongue in cheek, but yh, not tasteful.

13esq ,

Who seriously heard this song and thought, “this sounds amazing, I need to buy the album!”?

It was catchy as a gimmick song but I’m absolutely unsurprised that we didn’t hear anything further from ‘The Ting Tings’.

13esq ,

If you hate Musk or Tesla or whatever, that’s one thing, don’t take it out on your fellow man.

What do you think of the term "short king" as a term that's supposed to champion body positivity for men?

Body positivity is such a strange concept to me. There’s efforts to reclaim words while simultaneously calling them bad if used as an insult. Ideally, people wouldn’t be offended by someone describing their body with common descriptors, but socially there is so much value attributed to certain body types that it’s almost...

It’s not bad to be fat

It objectively is and it’s a terrible comparison to being short.

Being fat is terrible for your health and will limit your chances in love. It’s not politically correct to admit it, but most people simply aren’t attracted to people that are overweight, and whilst appearances shouldn’t matter, they absolutely do.

The difference between being short and being fat is that you can’t control your height. Controlling your weight might not be fun, but you can essentially choose what weight you are.

Bullying is obviously never ok, but if you’re not ok with the idea of being called fat, then you can choose not to consistently over eat for long periods of time.

Inb4: I understand some people have severe health and mental issues that are the primary source of their obesity and I empathise hugely with these people, but most overweight people simply lack will power. Losing weight is like giving up smoking, you can want to do it, but you don’t until you say “enough is enough” and actually mean it.

13esq ,

Roger has some strong opinions, but if you think he is a hateful person then you’ve absolutely misunderstood him.

13esq ,

How did you even get that from my comment?

13esq ,

Agreed. We can agree that this or that group is more or less desirable, but treating any group as less than human is an extremely slippery slope and you might soon enough find that you’ve become what you hated.

13esq ,

I know right? People need to grow a back bone, I’m sure twitter used to be great, but if it’s not for you anymore then move on and don’t look back, there’s plenty of other ways to spend your time.

Do you leave a tip for housekeeping if you're only staying one night in a hotel?

Is it a ‘thank you for prepping my room’ or ‘please clean my room today’? If you tip post cleaning, it’s likely going to someone else the next day. Many hotels now only do housekeeping on demand. How do employees feel about this - do they miss the tips or are they happy for a less stressful workday?...

13esq , (edited )

In pretty much every other country, you pay once and the worker gets paid from that.

It’s pretty much only America where you pay once for the food and then again for the service because the employees wage is so horrifically low that they can’t survive with out your direct subsidy.

Earning enough from your hourly rate/salary isn’t a punishment, it just simplifies the process and removes the need for the “how much do we tip” conversation.

If you think the service was exceptional, you can still tip, it’s just the difference between rewarding great work and tipping out of obligation.

13esq , (edited )

In the UK a few pubs have started the “how much would you like to tip?” When you pay by card.

When I see that, it’s always the last pint I buy from there.

Tipping is not customary here. People tip if they think the service is exceptional or they might “buy the bar tender a drink” if they want to build a relationship as a regular. I’m not OK with this shitty American culture creeping in.

13esq ,

Did Switzerland win because it was the best song or due to positive discrimination?

13esq , (edited )

That’s not really the point I’m making.

I’m asking whether the song was best or whether countries were scared to look like they were “non-binary” phobic.

Edit: you can downvote all you want, I’m just asking a question and downvoting without an answer is in its own way an answer, because apparently no one is brave enough to say, “yes, it was by far the best song” 🤷🏼‍♂️

13esq ,

Ok, that’s what I was interested in thanks.

13esq ,

I have no stake in this, I was just interested, don’t worry about me needing to “feel better”.

Thank you for your opinion.

Not a job

Manufacturer arms.

There’s no way I’m taking a wage in return for enabling rich people blowing up poor people around the world. I want to be able to sleep at night.

13esq OP ,

I deleted it immediately because I can’t stand to have that sort of video on my phone.

He’s not sent one to me directly before, but there is a work group chat where similar videos have come up (all deleted by me) and I left a comment saying what I thought about those types videos which pretty much brought them to a stop.

13esq OP ,

I might report it but not name him. I know there is a chance that he could get sacked, I think the guy is a grade A moron but I’m not willing to ruin his life over it.

13esq OP ,

There’s consequences and then there’s ruining his livelihood. I’m severely pissed off but seeing him sacked won’t make me feel better. I don’t want revenge, I just want him to act like a professional.

13esq ,

Being in a union is as much about sticking up for your fellow workers as is it is about “looking after No1”.

Sure, if you don’t like your job you could just quit and move on, but that’s not always a choice. You could organise as a workforce that fights to make work better not just for yourself and your colleagues, but for your fellow countrymen and your children’s generation too.
