Maybe just get a large monitor? Its probably cheaper too

camelbeard ,

First of all you’ll be really happy with all those babies when you turn 80 and society hasn’t fallen because the average age is 70.

Second, when childcare is free more people can join the workforce, this increases taxes and productivity.

But maybe the most important it will make society more equal. When you’re poor working almost doesn’t make sense if you have to spend 80% of your salary on childcare. So more people don’t work, these people are usually women. That really doesn’t help with an equal society, because a big group can’t really work so they can’t really climb any ladders.

Yeah same I was inflating all the bicycle tires of my family. On most of the tires it says inflate to x bar, but my electric pump only knows psi.

camelbeard ,

When is that going to happen? I would be very happy to have you back in the club 😊

camelbeard ,

Maybe but that would also mean people from let’s say Poland can live and work in the UK right? I thought that was one of the bigger Brexit points.

camelbeard ,

I don’t really visit reddit anymore, but still end up there sometimes because of a google search. Anyway there is an extension for Firefox Android to always show old Reddit. So you don’t have to log in or install the app.

New Israeli report alleging ‘systematic and intentional rape’ by Hamas relies on debunked Western media reports - The Grayzone (thegrayzone.com)

The contents of the Israeli Association of Rape Crisis Center’s paper alleging “systematic” Hamas rape derive largely from discredited second-hand testimonies and debunked media reports. Among its most heavily cited sources is a dubious NY Times article that triggered a staff revolt at the paper.

So those videos that came out right after, like the ones from that festival where all fake? youtu.be/APAhJYIhXv4

camelbeard ,

No problem the chemicals and heat will fix that

camelbeard ,

I was thinking the same, this looks well organized compared to how my wife does it, she even puts silverware on the top rack instead of in that little basket, or glasses drink side up (instead of upside down). I have talked to her about it so many times but she is incapable of doing a better job somehow (and she’s a smart, thats what really irritates me).

Is your wife also incapable of seperating trash?

camelbeard ,

I’m not sure, maybe Lemmy will never really become mainstream

camelbeard ,

Musk probably said something like they used a revolutionary new type of stainless steel, designed for spaceX rockets. Have you ever seen rust in space? No because it’s that revolutionary, and we all know space is filled with water and oxygen.

Open source communities have been around longer than the internet, so they can manage fine without discord.

Also don’t you just join by submitting code or bug reports or other things?

camelbeard ,

I pay for a plugin so I can use Thunderbird with the exchange server (and 2FA) my office has. Best purchase in a long time, I think it’s like a dollar a month or something, pretty cheap.

camelbeard ,

One thing I like is that it runs on Linux, so outlook isn’t an option for me anyway.

I tried other mail clients but most of them don’t work with exchange servers (and 2FA)

camelbeard ,

I knew the sample from this masterpiece

youtu.be/zG29C4skboc

Watch the entire clip without skipping, its pretty intense!

Where I live it works a bit like this.

A company can hire you and give you a temporary contract, usually a year, but it can de shorter. After that they can do that again and again. But after 3 temporary contracts (at most 3 years) they have to give you a permanent contract.

The advantage of this permanent contract is that you can quit, but if you don’t and the company wants to fire you they have to compensate it financially. This usually is part of the contract you signed, but it’s 1-3 months of salary per year you worked for this company.

So of you get fired after 5 full years, you will get somewhere between 5 to 15 months of salary when you go.

So companies don’t fire you without really having a good reason and even if you are fired, you have extra money while searching for a new job.

One of my friends has been at the same company for a long time and he told me it would cost them 150K to fire him.

camelbeard ,

There’s an addon that can do it and remember the setting per domain or website.

camelbeard ,

Is this like Franz ? I used that for a while, was pretty good actually.

I now use the unofficial teams client, it works ok for me.

camelbeard ,

Do you think I’m using teams because I want to use teams??

camelbeard ,

Awesome I was on my phone so I couldn’t quickly check what addon I was using.

camelbeard ,

No it’s just borrowing, it’s temporary anyway, I recently looked at some movies on a very old harddisk and it was like DVD quality or worse. Threw the entire disk out.

camelbeard OP ,

Yeah I should have known, started the thing at 12:26 (actually know this because I called my wife to check if we had 3 hours and 38 minutes before we needed to go), its 17:18 and I just got the door open…

camelbeard OP ,

At home I hang most of the clothes, but we where at a short trip and we had some wet towels and swimgear, so de decided to just do one full laundry with most of our wet and dirty clothes. The first duration before I even started the cycle was that it should be done at about 16:10 it was actually done more than an hour later.

camelbeard OP ,

It’s a washer and dryer, so it did both

camelbeard OP ,

Very good reply, just one thing to add, it’s both a washer and dryer, we did a full wash dry cycle.

camelbeard OP ,

I think it was 17:18 when the door lock finally opened. The very first time estimate said it should be ready at 16:10. So it was definitely a big lie.

camelbeard ,

Also I’d rather wait without ads than wait with ads, like what’s the point?

camelbeard ,

Too be honest I was fine with seeing an ad every few videos. But at some point it became unskippable ads before , during and after a video.

EU antitrust chief to Tim Cook: Apple must allow third-party app stores (appleinsider.com)

EU antitrust chief to Tim Cook: Apple must allow third-party app stores::The European Union’s Margrethe Vestager has met with leaders of US Big Tech firms to discuss their operations in the EU, and with Apple’s Tim Cook concentrated on the App Store and Apple Music.

camelbeard ,

I was going to say something similar, if you use the play Store you’re about as safe as you use the Apple app Store. They do the same kind of checks. Some apps that are allowed I would not personally install as I consider them spyware (like TikTok or anything by Meta).

You should always be considerate what you Install, if you Install a video call app that needs camera permission fine, if you Install a digital clock app that needs camera permission not fine at all.

camelbeard ,

With the way the world is going, maybe it’s better to keep the military around for a while.

Al Gore To Leave Apple Board After 21-Year Run; Company Reveals CEO Tim Cook’s Pay Dropped 36% In 2023 After Shareholder Pressure (deadline.com)

Al Gore To Leave Apple Board After 21-Year Run; Company Reveals CEO Tim Cook’s Pay Dropped 36% In 2023 After Shareholder Pressure::Former Vice President Al Gore will exit Apple’s board of directors, the company said in an SEC filing that also revealed a pay drop for CEO Tim Cook.

camelbeard ,

About 50% of Apple revenue comes from iPhones. So if an iphone sells less then expected it’s a big impact on the company and stock price. The iPhone 15 was OK, but not innovative or interesting enough for people to ditch the previous one and get a new phone.

Also investors really look at future growth, so when the main product they sell shows signs that the end of growth has been reached they are not happy.

In reality the only thing that has unlimited growth is cancer, I just like to add this…

camelbeard ,

Is that even enough for a single LED to turn on?

camelbeard , (edited )

I once had a phone with a replaceable battery, headphone jack, IR blaster (so it was also my TV remote) and SD slot.

I feel after this we gained waterproof phones.

(although I only once dropped my phone in water and it was before waterproof phones and it still worked 48 hours later, so I don’t care that much for waterproof phones).

Anyway I feel we just got downhill after this phone, my current pixel has no: headphone jack, IR blaster, SD slot, replaceable battery, etc.

I wonder what would happen when a major smartphone maker would make a phone with all those features again.

camelbeard ,

So that was the peak!

camelbeard ,

Do they also have like kebab/swarma places that are open 24/7? Where I live drunk people always seem to want to eat something like that.

Can’t imagine getting drunk and thinks let’s get a waffle.

camelbeard ,

There are more Android users than Apple users worldwide. Lots of them are not very tech savvy, but they don’t get tricked into installing random apps. You can’t even do that unless you go into settings and enable third-party app installs. I don’t think it’s really a big problem like you think it is

camelbeard ,

Red, that would give me 30+ years of life. I would also try to get older healthier.

camelbeard ,

That was actually my point, you don’t go for money because you want money. You go for money because you want things money can get you, house, car, safety, status, etc (different for everyone). In this case money can’t even get you what you really want, so it’s a useless tool.

camelbeard ,

If you read a book you can talk about it, quote it, draw characters from that book, write your own ending, etc.

Isn’t that kind of the same? Let’s say some day we have an AI with near human intelligence, why can’t the AI be trained on copyright works, just like humans, all our school books are copyrighted works?

camelbeard ,

So if AI companies pay for a book or music (like a consumer) it’s no problem? Because I don’t think this is about paying for content, it’s that content holders refuse to work with AI companies.

camelbeard ,

Just a small warning, I just played around with civit. Tried to make some Images, also wanted to try to make some nsfw images. Anyway be really careful what you prompt, I accidentally generated some images with very young people I never intended.
