I don’t tell people about the Fediverse.

jacktherippah ,

Honestly, at this point I kinda prefer to go on Reddit. I’m getting tired of all the tech/FOSS talk and there’s so much doom and gloom on here it just bums me out.

jacktherippah ,

That’s all fine and good but Firefox on Android is currently in a sorry state. No per-site process isolation, buggy, can’t keep tabs open, slow, choppy, drains battery. Had to uninstall it on my brand new Galaxy S24+ and my Pixel 6 Pro because it was draining so much battery. When are you going to finally stop ignoring Firefox Android, Mozilla?

jacktherippah ,

I ran Firefox Android with uBo and AdGuardDNS.

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/2953c8dd-d56d-42c0-b0de-53e8f8dfe618.jpegWell here’s the drain I was talking about at least. 18% in less than an hour and thirty minutes of use for a web browser isn’t normal. In an hour of use a Chromium browser only drains 6-7 ish % for me. This has been an issue for I guess the past month or so? It drove me crazy so I had to uninstall. And it’s not just me either, there are tons of posts from people with the same problem on Reddit. If you don’t have problems, good for you I guess.

jacktherippah ,

Well that was 18% of 90% so still awful drain regardless.

jacktherippah ,

Haiya literally just finished studying for a statistics final so I went on Lemmy and the first post I see is more statistics =). Haha, anyway, great work!

jacktherippah ,

Thanks!

jacktherippah ,

It was a bug a while back. It went away, now it came back. It’s been here again for what? 1,2 months now? Actually, now that I think about it, it’s been an on and off bug ever since Android gained gesture navigation and the gesture bar LMAO.

jacktherippah ,

Oh here’s my monthly reminder that JK Rowling is nutjob.

jacktherippah ,

That’s all fine and good but I need them to fix the battery drain first. It drains an insane amount of battery on Android. It drains more than games.

jacktherippah ,

I will justify it in four words: It’s a Hades sequel.

[Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism?

Seen a lot of posts on Lemmy with vegan-adjacent sentiments but the comments are typically very critical of vegan ideas, even when they don’t come from vegans themselves. Why is this topic in particular so polarising on the internet? Especially since unlike politics for example, it seems like people don’t really get upset by...

jacktherippah ,

I don’t hate veganism. It’s a dietary choice and that’s fine. What I hate is vegans. They’re always pushy and judgmental and hateful and sometimes even destructive in their activism. They’re an annoying group of people and I just don’t want to have to deal with them.

jacktherippah ,

I’m fine with Bluetooth. My earbuds and speakers all have Bluetooth nowadays.

jacktherippah ,

Can we have a YouTube competitor? Pretty please? 🥺

jacktherippah ,

Chiming in from a third world country. Just did a speedtest. On LTE right now i get 100 down 60 up, 500GB/month for 35$ a year =).

jacktherippah ,

Heyyo, I’m from Hanoi!

jacktherippah ,

I use Orion. It’s basically Safari but way better.

jacktherippah ,

Yeah, they’ll work just fine. I don’t see why not, it’s just a Bluetooth connection.

jacktherippah ,

Just don’t get a carrier variant and you’ll be fine. You can also check for sure by putting the device’s IMEI into store.google.com/repair. For example, here’s what mine says: Pixel 6 Pro Stormy Black 128GB (Unlocked) (Pristine)

jacktherippah ,

Bootloader relocking is supported with an alternative OS on a Pixel. GrapheneOS supplies an avb custom key and they expect that you use their OS with a locked bootloader.

jacktherippah ,

Not in America. Dude, same. I get 2,3 spam calls a day, sometimes like 6. It’s so annoying.

jacktherippah ,

Still not available in my country. Sadge.

jacktherippah ,

That model is infamous for dying very quickly. Usually it’s a slow decline where your hardware slowly doesn’t work anymore but sometimes it just works perfectly until out of nowhere it just dies.

jacktherippah ,

What a skillful hunter! I’m peeing my pants!!!

jacktherippah ,

Spigen/Caseology (sister brand) and Ringke are good ones for around 10-20$ US from my experience. On the higher end you can get DBrand grip I guess.

jacktherippah ,

I’m the complete opposite tbh. I have tiny hands so phones are hard to handle but my ideal size has always been 6.7 inches.I love how can see so much on there and how everything is so much easier to see and how my fingers have tons of room to work with when typing. Anything below 6.3 inches feels really cramped for me.

jacktherippah ,

I don’t. I charge it when I wake up. It’s about ready when I need to go.

jacktherippah OP ,

I got vaccinated too, like 3 times. The first time I got COVID was before the vaccine. Still got infected after but symptoms were more mild and recovery time was way faster. That first time without the vaccines were absolutely brutal.

jacktherippah OP ,

Yeah I got tested (RT-PCR) at a clinic too. COVID 19 confirmed. The rapid at-home test got it right all three times.

jacktherippah OP ,

I’ve had 3 pfizer shots.

jacktherippah OP ,

Well they got it right all three times sooo I’d say pretty good for me.

jacktherippah ,

OMG, yes! I’ve been running into so many rude/toxic comments lately. For me it feels like this place is devolving into Reddit again.

jacktherippah ,

The 200ms difference is virtually unoticeable on a Pixel 6 Pro.

jacktherippah ,

Apple’s 9 dollar dongle works pretty well for me. It’s actually really good for the price.
