Is there ever any explanation for that style of armour that so many people in DBZ wear?

Doll_Tow_Jet-ski ,

It has a single origin. Sayayin culture. Remember Vegeta was a sayayin, and he and his friends introduced that type of armor when they landed on earth for the first time.

onlooker ,
@onlooker@lemmy.ml avatar

*Saiya-jin or Saiyan, if you prefer the english version. The word Saiya is supposed to be a pun on the japanese word Yasai (野菜), meaning vegetable.

loaExMachina ,

But Frieza’s troops also wear them, and so does Frieza himself (in his weakest form, before he breaks it) despite looking down on the Saiyajin. So are you sure it was the Saiyajin who introduced it to Frieza’s empire, and not the other way around?

I believe sayans used it because they were under Friza’s rule.

To remove proletariat needs of billionaires and eventually remove those peasants from earth, so that 1% pigs could enjoy a little more lifespan. This is the only purpose of openAI behind closed doors.

One really annoying problem, in firefox the mouse cursor position is wrong. Clicking in firefox clicks on the thing 30-ish pixels above my mouse. I noticed that it only happens when firefox is snapped to the left or right half of the screen (of course that’s how I almost always use it). I can fix it if I maximize firefox then snap it left or right. 100% scaling on the monitor, nothing funky, reset theme/appearance, reset my firefox profile, etc…

Hopefully it gets sorted soon

Didn’t realize this was happening and yay -Syu went brrr and it broke my shit. Probably doesn’t help that I’m running nvidia with linux (endeavouros). Wayland doesn’t work at all (black screen on login with only mouse ptr, wrong resolution), while Xorg is now much less smooth e.g. on the switching desktop animations. Moving windows around and in-window graphics are fine. Some graphical config stuff changed too; I’m still taking inventory.

I’m also currently playing with nvidia vs nvidia-dkms with different kernels to see if that solves anything.

EDIT: Looks like that my configuration was failing to set nvidia_drm modeset=1 correctly due to my unfamiliarity with dracut. Manually adding nvidia_drm.modeset=1 to my kernel cmdline makes Wayland work (and quite well at that), though Xorg is still laggy.

On rolling release distros you should always read (or at least skim) over what’s being updated and if it may impact you.

ornery_chemist ,

Oh absolutely, I don’t blame KDE or arch repos lol. I did see that it was a KDE update but somehow didn’t clock the version number. I had it in my head that KDE6 was much farther off.

idefix , to linux in KDE 6 FOR ARCH LINUX IS HEREEEEEEE

I know my opinion will not be popular there but that’s what I love about Manjaro: they won’t rush the upgrade. I can wait for a couple of months, no worries.

OsrsNeedsF2P OP ,

Arch Linux waited for 6.0.1. Besides, you don’t have to upgrade if you don’t want.

(I did like Manjaro’s community though. They cool)

idefix ,

Can you freeze kde version while keeping the rest up-to-date? (Genuine question, I assumed that wasn’t possible)

OsrsNeedsF2P OP ,

Technically yes, but you’ll probably break your system because it’s a lot of work to keep track of which packages depend on what manually.

The best way to do this would use some sort of immutable distro with a frozen KDE version instead

bellsDoSing ,

Same here! Been using manjaro for more than 5 years by now on all my dev machines and I really like not being overrun by updates.

Once you form the habit of checking latest “stable update” forum thread (the eqivalent of checking the arch frontpage before an upgrade) and check for potential “manual interventions” (if any), then it gives you suprisingly good stability. But it’s still rolling release and “pretty current”.

And stability simply becomes more of a factor once your metaphorical “plate” becomes choke full and the last thing you want from your underlying OS is to act up on its own due to an update.

Only if you don't know what Cloudlfare does. It protects against all kinds of attacks.

foggy ,

Yeah this post is nearly upsettingly ignorant.

Cloudflare is just about the only big internet company out there objectively doing good things for the Internet.

planish ,

Right now.

But everybody is also moving into their castle. Many for free.

They are not allowed to let people do that unless they have an argument that, somehow, this makes money for the owners of Cloudflare. Maybe that’s in the form of good publicity. Maybe they’re hoping to set up some tollbooths at the castle gate, once enough people are inside and the other options have withered for lack of customers.

foggy ,

They have existed for over a decade wtf are you on about. They’re publicly traded and doing very well.

This is more nonsense in a thread full of nonsense.

planish ,

That suggests they’re less likely to try to frantically monitize in a way that risks killing their brand’s reputation. Maybe they’ll stay nice indefinitely.

HaywardT ,

Anyone providing services for a profit could pull a Unity at anytime. Still, I think you need more for the “slippery slope” argument.

foggy ,

BACK IN MY DAY WE BROUGHT RIFLES TO GAME TO TAUNT THE PLAYERS

spacesweedkid27 ,

Maybe their point is just privatisation or something.

For example a dns provider like cloudfare just could artificially make latency costs for servers that don’t agree with something cloudfare does bigger, which would result in them being less likely to be displayed in a search result because a search engine would have IP adresses faster from other servers. This obviously depends on if a search engine makes dns requests or just provides hostnames for the end user.

hai ,
@hai@lemmy.ml avatar

Most of the time that a site is using Cloudflare you’ve likely not noticed and it has improved your experience.

taanegl ,

You’re all circle jerking around the problem. Proxy DNS and CDN’s should be decentralised into standard protocols and not centralised into one company, for what should be obvious reasons (privacy being one of them).

I use CloudFlare on my websites and I feel like I don’t have a choice. The fact that it’s free to use proxy DNS is the kicker here, and the big selling point behind the DDoS protections. But the milliseconds CF DNS and page caching shave off page loads is also dangerous, because now it becomes mandatory if your websites are actually competing against someone else.

Again: this is a single entity, a single point of failure and in effect a monopoly. We don’t just get to use it, we have to use it.

Of course one can’t complain unless one has made an effort to do something about it, like I dunno, make a national version of CloudFlare?

Mwahahahaha! Didn’t like that one, did you?!? Soon that will be mandatory and departments that investigate will honeypot your ass when they need a some justification for taking your in for a little private interrogation… wait, no, GO BACK!!

Okay, so protocols. Hard as fuck, static as hell. Yes? But, decentralised. Si? DNS proxying and content caches are staples of the modern internet. Content go quick, content go real quick ya. All we need to do is figure out a way to facilitate those things without having to rely on a single company.

I have been some schmuck on the internet and this was my TL;DR.

Your experience as an end user is only available because cloudflare exists. That’s why your end user opinion doesn’t matter, because bad actors are constantly trying to ruin the internet and cloudflare is the gatekeeper. As a server owner I need security at the door to keep our illegal activity. Your opinion of “I don’t like security at the door” is dually noted and immediately thrown away.
