I wrote some insults and it worked.

Pretty sure my insults will be used to train a model as well

idefix ,

I know it’s a joke, I hate to be that guy. But this meme feels old and obsolete now. I can’t remember the last time I had to tweak my Linux. The fun is gone

idefix ,

Upvoted, joke appreciated :)

idefix ,

It’s interesting to read people’s issues on Linux. It seems almost all of them come from the graphic stack and gaming. Using an Intel card I haven’t seen an issue in forever.

idefix ,

Should I feel ashamed as I migrated from second hand Thinkpads to second hand Dell Latitude? I got a 7410 for 300€ 2 years ago and I really have no complaint about it. And it looks better (personal opinion).

idefix ,

I don’t understand the simpler argument. Installing and using extensions and gnome-tweaks to change basic settings is not simpler. And I strongly dislike a large number of defaults.

With KDE Plasma, defaults make more sense to me so I barely have to change configuration. If I really need to, the setting is there and easily used.

idefix ,

Happy for you… but isn’t this thread about Mint?

Is that a way to say “by the way I use fedora”? 😀

idefix ,

I’m pretty sure Apple is missing a significant market share of consumers like myself who can’t stand their anti-competitive practices. That’s why I can only buy Android phones and tablets, until we get decent Linux ones.

idefix ,

I am on Samsung devices right now (phone & tablet) but I’m not 100% convinced and I do not advocate for this brand.

I’m just waiting for a more mature Fairphone & /e/os platform.

idefix ,

Probably true, but I must mention you also have great things in the Android / Samsung ecosystem. For example, Samsung Dex is impressive and I do use it.

idefix ,

That’s my issue with Samsung devices: unofficial ROMs are rare. For example on my Galaxy S21 FE, I can’t run LineageOS.

idefix ,

Thanks for explaining, I was really confused there

idefix ,

It’s quite amazing you’ve picked that example. I just didn’t remember some people had to mess with video drivers. Last time I’ve done it was probably a decade ago, on Windows.

idefix ,

You have been banned by Red Hat’s management

idefix , (edited )

Not gonna happen obviously. It’s so funny to see every fedora announcement on linuxfr.org detailing every single aspect of the release while ignoring completely KDE.

idefix , (edited )

Manjaro user here, they’re both cool

idefix ,

It’s even worse with Fedora in my experience. Always some weird default, strange issue, missing packages that take ages to fix until you decide it’s not the right distribution for you. And you go with Debian, Arch, Manjaro, Mint, etc…

I figured out how to make IPTV as easy as using Netflix so you dont have to (lemmy.myserv.one)

Disclaimer: Obviously this is for educational purposes only. I would personally never use my internet connection for anything illegal at all. I simply tested the below setup then deleted everything out of pure interest to understand how things worked and do not use any IPTV service. I love paying Netflix and other streaming...

idefix ,

Do you have access to Netflix or other providers catalog of films and series on-demand? Can you change audio / subtitles language?

idefix ,

I feel like this article is completely missing my point. I’ve done my share of programming websites but not for the past 2 decades. And now I’m completely lost at reading CSS. I can’t make sense of the code shown in the picture. And that’s always been my trouble with CSS: the tendency to unnecessarily over-complicate things while reinventing the wheel. They have created a huge barrier for entry to the world of website programming and I think it’s a shame.

idefix ,

I agree with everything you said, that’s fair. But I do not remember having to much difficulties coding UI interfaces in Qt while supporting numerous end-user configurations.

idefix ,

As much as it pains me, I am convinced you’re right. It’s mostly an education / cultural problem. You can find similar situation in other countries of course but I’ve never it that extensive.

The result is having some of the worst politicians ever being elected, with no credible alternative.

idefix ,

Last time I ate some was 30 years ago, and that was the last time I saw them on the menu.

idefix ,

He’s being very short-sighted, as if Ukraine was the final step to this war.

idefix ,

I know my opinion will not be popular there but that’s what I love about Manjaro: they won’t rush the upgrade. I can wait for a couple of months, no worries.

idefix ,

Can you freeze kde version while keeping the rest up-to-date? (Genuine question, I assumed that wasn’t possible)

idefix ,

Mandrake, Red Hat, Slackware, Suse, Gentoo, Sourcemage, etc…

I’ve settled for Manjaro 6 years ago and never saw a reason to change. I’m also super happy with Debian on my server.

idefix ,

It’s always the same story: are confident are you that this is true?

idefix ,

if I also include Nix, Arch, Gentoo, etc.,

You can add other distros and remove Fedora. I don’t really understand why you would recommend it to a beginner anyway (too unstable).

idefix ,

If the only use case is translation, that’s probably not a good business case.

idefix OP ,

Is that why he’s always pushing the boundaries to test my limits?

idefix ,

Just no. My CEO runs a much larger organisation than Mozilla corp and her salary is 1m€ per year (public information), and that’s perfectly adequate.

idefix ,

I’m surprised Lehman Brothers isn’t there. Is that expected?

idefix ,

Not trying to dismiss your view, but I am not aware of any country outside US using HIPPA as a standard. I’m also not an expert in this so probably mistaken. Which country are you thinking of?

idefix ,

I see what you mean yes. Some common principles can be found outside of the US

What's your experiences with Debian and Rocky as a homeserver OS? (external-content.duckduckgo.com)

Hello there lemmings! Finally I have taken up the courage to buy a low power mini PC to be my first homeserver (Ryzen 5500U, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, already have 6TB external HDD tho). I have basically no tangible experience with Debian or Fedora-based system, since my daily drivers are Arch-based (although I’m planning to switch...

idefix ,

The official image jellyfin/jellyfin tracks unstable

Why did they make that choice? I am on this version right now, didn’t know it was unstable. I found it very difficult to have information regarding the docker images in general, it’s a pity we don’t have a few lines explaining what the content is.

idefix ,

Pretty common here in France and it’s cheap enough. Why would you think it would be expensive? And expensive compared to what?

idefix ,

I was talking about the old-fashion one. It’s really common across France even though modern housing have heat pumps. Oil furnaces have almost completely disappeared and the gas one are in the process of being replaced as well. Electricity is cheaper here than in most countries (thanks to nuclear power plants).

idefix ,

Yup, clearly. /s

That seemed nice until… 400€ for keyboard change

WTF? 400€ to change the keyboard language?

idefix ,

Good on them for explaining. But at that price, why even propose the option? That’s a 40% price increase just to get your keyboard layout where it’s free everywhere else.

idefix ,

Oh right, I misread your first comment sorry.

idefix ,

6.1.0-17 is the one I received today. I was on 6.1.0-16 until now.

idefix ,

Exactly I really don’t get the argument there. Manjaro’s handling of kernel selection is brilliant. Multiple LTS kernels, a recommended one, bleeding hedge and experimental ones. There’s something for everyone and it’s super easy to use.

idefix ,

Most distributions are fine honestly. Ubuntu is clearly not my thing. Not a fan of Redhat-based distribution either. I wanted to appreciate OpenSuse as they’ve been supporters of KDE for a long time but wasn’t comfortable with Yast.

Apart from that, Manjaro is awesome, Arch amazing, Debian brilliant, etc.

idefix ,

Good to hear, my impression of OpenSuse was from 10+ years ago, I should have said so.

Switched from Manjaro to Fedora after being told Manjaro is "a bad distro" by many. Looking for a telnet terminal such as Syncterm to run on rpm or flatpak. (lemmy.zip)

Welp, I made a similar thread yesterday regarding Manjaro but I decided to swap to Fedora as my daily driver for stability purposes. Unfortunately since fedora is yet another non Debian distro I need help finding a Syncterm replacement....

idefix ,

A little, I must have 10 AUR packages installed.
