We’ll see what YouTube is going to do with their war against adblockers but if it gets too inconvenient to use I’ll probably get the premium. I get so much value from that site that I almost feel bad for using it for free.
The Mastodon instance I’m on has blocked all known Meta IPs as a preventative measure. So I imagine some admins will federate and some won’t, and users will be free to join the instance that they wish to.
The search for communities is a bit of a pain, but https://lemmy.world/c/newcommunities has new communities (so not a lot of content yet) and https://browse.feddit.de/ has also a nice overview. You can also scroll through all the new posts and look for communities you like. There are also communities on kbin. Usually when you follow a couple of communities, you stumble upon others.
Heads up, it’s ideal to link like !newcommunities (without the auto generated link format – why does it do that??). Markdown: [email protected]. That way the link is relative to whatever instance any particular reader is on. The link you posted goes straight to lemmy.world and thus any reader who isn’t a lemmy.world user will have a barrier in usage (they won’t be able to subscribe or comment and any relative links in that sub will also have usage barriers).
The front page is still very broken here on Lemmy and kbin. If a community is very active, it will show you nearly every post from that community. Depending on what time of day I log on, all the posts will be in German.
