As long as it fits into the slot, it should work.

Yes, I capture them and put them on a pyre.

Avoiding snaps on Ubuntu sadly is not an option anymore. Maybe go for pop!_os Instead of Ubuntu.

refalo ,

I disagree… I have no problems going without it. Could you give some reasons why you think avoiding snaps is not an option anymore?

tmjaea ,

Because canonical removed packages from apt to prevent users to install their apps from apt instead. Firefox for example.

Firefox from Apt is a link to a snap!

askubuntu.com/…/how-to-install-firefox-as-a-tradi…

This is some bullshit level activity that I do not want.

I moved away from Microsoft to not have to deal with such an annoyance. Now canonical is doing it to their users.

You should not have any issues. Worst case scenario is that one is slower than the other and will cause the faster one to step down, but unless one is significantly slower, you should have no issues.

Generally, in the past 10 years at least, mixed memory on dual channel configuration has not been an issue.

I’m frustrated with the lack of sdcard options in upper midrange smartphones.

If you get a midrange smartphone you either compromise on processor, ram, storage or a combination of other.

I want a good quality smartphone which has 45w of minimum fast charging, UFS 3.1 256GB of minimum. 12GB ram, snapdragon 7+gen 2, or dimensity 8300 at minimum. And provides an sdcard option.

Is it that hard for brands to do that?

Nothing phone 2 and 2a would’ve been decent. If they had an sdcard option. Alas, they skipped it for some reason…

Nothing skipped on the SD card for no reason. Their cheaper CMF Phone ships with SD card support, though still not with a 3.5mm jack.

Depends on if they’re the same speed. Faster memory has shorter clock cycles.

It doesn’t really matter too much though. The system should just run all the memory at the slowest speed/timings.

As someone who enjoyed watching break dancing as a kid… I have to say, this woman did NOT belong anywhere near anything resembling break dancing. How she got to the olympics on behalf of Australia makes no sense. I cringed from start to finish and my only rational, logical conclusion is that this woman is a troll and wanted to disrespect the hip hop culture.

OneCardboardBox , to selfhosted in Some hardware talk

As someone who has owned enterprise servers for self-hosting, I agree with the previous comment that you should avoid owning one if you can. They might be cheap, but your longterm ownership costs are going to be higher. That’s because as the server breaks down, you’ll be competing with other people for a dwindling supply of compatible parts. Unlike consumer PCs, server hardware is incredibly vendor locked. Hell, my last Proliant would keep the fans ramped at 100% because I installed a HDD that the BIOS didn’t like. This was after I spent weeks tracking down a disk that would at least be recognized, and the only drives I could find were already heavily used.

My latest server is built with consumer parts fit into a 2U rack case, and I sleep so much easier knowing I can replace any of the parts myself with brand new alternatives.

Plus as others have said, a 1U can be really loud. I don’t care about the sound of my gaming computer, but that poweredge was so obnoxious that despite being in the basement, I had to smother it with blankets just so the fans didn’t annoy me when I was watching TV upstairs. I still have a 1U Dell Poweredge, but I specifically sought out the generation that still let you hack the fan speeds in IPMI. From all my research, no such hack exists for the Proliant line.

HubertManne , to asklemmy in Do you have a form of government you invented/conceived, either as an idea or for fiction (or a favorite from someone else)? How does it work?

micronation ideas were big awhile back on the net. Maybe about 20 years ago. People wrote constitutions and such. With the gridocracy im wondering about the leaders. Like would each row and column have its own executive, legislature, and judiciary or is it just about executive. If only executive is there a legislative/judicial for the whole area or is it basically assuming some sort of singular ruler (king or whatnot)? For myself I have never made a whole and complete thing but I have had some ideas. I like the idea of sorta making the judiciary part of the rest. Not really a part but sorta a seperate equivalent. then split the responsibilities between external and internal areas. So like I see a congress and a parliment with a president and a prime minister. parliment/prime minister would have internal responsibility and congress/president would have external. then there would be a judicial executive. So the executive would be a tribunal with each responsible for their departments/ministries external/internal with the judicial executives role to make spot decisions on authority in edge cases and has the right to join with the other executive to override an executive who in their view is taking an action that is harmful to the country (needless to say that should be emphasized as being something only to be done in extreme situations). In all cases the legislature has authority over the executive and elections have authority over the legislatures. In the case of legislatures a simple majority would need approval of the other legislature and the executive but all laws would originate in the legislatures area (internal external). a 2/3rd need approval at only one level and a 3/4 would need no approval. The supreme court decides which legislature has authority in edge cases and could also allow for exceptions if the other legislature agrees and they both have agreement at the 2/3rds level but again only in extreme circumstances. basically the executive and legislature mirrors themselves. parliment/prime minister would be done as is common and president/congress would be US house of rep style along with popular vote (no electoral college). voting would not be first past the post. judicial elections would be indirect but I have not hashed it out.
