Morning. I have one heck of a migraine today. Like a hangover, only I didn’t drink anything last night.

This feels like a good time to remind people that Lemmy does have a dark mode. You can enable it by clicking on your name in the top-right, then Settings, then scrolling down to theme and choosing “darkly” or something like it.

tom ,

Dark (or preferably amoled) mode is the way God intended apps to be viewed.

@Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Cheers. Normally I prefer light mode because I find it easier to read, and keeps me awake more during the afternoon slump. But it’s very nice to have the option.

XanXic , to nostupidquestions in Is there a way to automatically enlarge images on Lemmy (web)?

There’s a finished PR already up for this as a profile option on the repo. So right now you can use scripts or such, but an official option is coming!

Awesome stuff. The open source community are killing it with this.

briongloid , to nostupidquestions in So how long until the Fediverse is monetized?
@briongloid@aussie.zone avatar

I think that Lemmy Gold, Silver & Bronze are inevitable, with say a 90/10 cut to instance/lemmy-devs.

It would be best if the developers and the biggest instances agree on a standard payment system to implement into the Lemmy UI.

I’ve already donated to my instance as it’s a regional one, I didn’t buy Reddit Gold, but Lemmy Gold/Silver/Bronze is appealing to me given the money goes to a much smaller local group.

bappity ,
@bappity@lemmy.world avatar

I would be up for these kinds of things as long as it doesn’t restrict functionality behind paid tiers. if it only provides cosmetic enhancements like badges or whatever else that’d be cool

ricdeh ,
@ricdeh@lemmy.world avatar

Why? If you need to pay money to have a badge so that you can feel superior to others, maybe you should stick to reddit instead of polluting the Fediverse.

bappity ,
@bappity@lemmy.world avatar

didn’t mean it like that just that if we start restricting functionality behind paid tiers it could get to the point where Reddit had that weird turbo thing like discord nitro that you could only post embedded GIFs and stuff if you had it

fully agree though

    196, I like that community and seen a lot of fun stuff there, but I can see how it could be too spammy for some.

    mrnotoriousman ,

    Content has been slowly increasing but my first few days were 99% 196 and German posts until I blocked those communities haha

    aski3252 , to nostupidquestions in lemmy.world doesn't seem to have many established NSFW communities; they appear to be in separate instances. Is there any benefit to this or anything stopping lemmy.world from having NSFW communities?

    Before last month, lemmy was very very small and comparatively inactive. Lemmy admins are hobbyists who run the server in their spare time, most did/do not want to deal with pornographic content on their server as with it come a lot of potental moderational and legal challanges.

    Since Lemmy and KBIN don't have an equivalent to rewards, I doubt there'd be an equivalent to “Thanks for the gold kind stranger!” unless someone makes a Fediverse equivalent to the Old Reddit Silver bot

    RightHandOfIkaros , to nostupidquestions in lemmy.world doesn't seem to have many established NSFW communities; they appear to be in separate instances. Is there any benefit to this or anything stopping lemmy.world from having NSFW communities?

    I think this is beneficial because it lowers the traffic of the instance. Especially with how many users World has, adding all the traffic generated from NSFW communities would only compound any problem in the instance processing requests slowly.

    Zengen , to linux in is there a Linux alternative to windows 10/11 that is similar?

    Iv been running garuda Linux GNOME edition on my gaming rig for years. Best Linux experience iv had. Honestly in my opinion and theres 2 schools of thought on this. The windows paradigm is literally shit workflow design, and thats just objective assessment. The only reason it has carried on is because people got real familiar with very shitty design choices.

    I think you may want to consider opening yourself up to trying a whole new UX. Try out GNOME would be my suggestion. NixOS is another positive choice. You can install almost all your software graphically in basically 1 click using flatpak too these days and thanks to steam and their investment in proton. Most steam games work REALLY WELL on Linux.

    RightHandOfIkaros , to nostupidquestions in How do we effectively report users and/or communities?

    You can tell an admin about it. But it would be ultimately up to the admin on whether action is taken.

    Also, sidenote for anyone reading this, most lemmy instance modlogs are publicly readable. You can see what actions your moderators are taking and this goes a huge step towards keeping mods accountable. It also gives you a greater appreciation for the absolutely fantastic mods that have to sift through all the garbage they take out. Its quite eye opening. A thankless job, and I thank the current mods for doing it.

    PrivateOnions , to android in S22 Series vs S23 Series vs Pixel 7 series

    I can’t speak on the Samsung but I have a Pixel 7 and I am pretty satisfied. My main complaints would be that it heats up a bit with 5g which I prefer to not use anyways and the battery charging is pretty slow without USB C. I can’t speak for software issues though as I flashed a custom ROM since the first day I bought it, and is the main reason I bought it.

    However I think that if you have the extra money and are not going to do any of the custom ROM stuff then the Samsung would be better no doubt.
