There was a study done by a university a while back that had hundreds of randomly selected women rate headshots of men from 1 to 10 in various stages of hair, from full thick head of hair to completely smooth bald.

They plotted the results and found that the full head of hair pictures averaged the highest, as you would expect. Then as the baldness increased, the average ratings dropped extremely quickly.

However, once the pictures got to the 100% bald men, the average ratings shot back up nearly identical to the full head of hair pictures.

The conclusion of the researchers: if you care about being perceived as attractive to women as a balding male, you need to commit to one or the other hard. Either get hair transplant surgery, get a high quality hairpiece, or commit to the bald look hardcore and shave it butter smooth.

The worst thing you can do from that perspective is to let the balding hair just kind of grow out all partial/thin.

I guess it’s the classic stereotype, the thing the majority of women are attracted to is confidence. So if you’re going bald, commit hardcore to the bald look, embrace hats, jewelry, and clothing that emphasizes your head shape and face, experiment with facial hair styles if you can grow it.

Keep your skin clean and your head held high. Lots of sexy bald guys out there, your worth as a person isn’t held in your hair.

My balding grandpa dressed like the classic dorky old man; shorts pulled up over his belly, tucked-in baggy polo, socks pulled up to his knees with dad-sandals, and a dirty trucker cap worn crooked on his head with giant yellow-brown glasses. But damn if he wasn’t the most confident man I’ve ever met. Humble, calm, but super hard worker and very driven, also honest as the day is long. Married happily to my grandma for over 40 years until freak cancer took him early.

Hundreds a people from all over the country came to his service, the amount of lives he had positively impacted was incredible. So many people pulled me aside to tell me what a great man my grandpa was, it was powerful.

I was literally going to say crystal sage before I read your full post. I’ve never once gotten through a DS3 run without dying several times to him, and I’ve probably played a dozen or more times. Even with the throwing knives cheese.

Shave it. I did when mine started going and the maintenance is super easy. I’d never go back.

orbitz ,

I started that like 10 years ago, unfortunately I have a funky shaped head so it doesn’t look as good as it may on others but I do enjoy the maintenance on it. I can definitely tell these days it won’t grow back like it used to (much thinner on the top, edging back on the top sides). However being able to use a hair trimmer once a week myself is cheap, and less things to do while getting ready in the morning.

I can understand since society seems to put value on hair but not worrying about it (some confidence) goes a long way. I barely think about it nowadays.

Due to unusually high tempetures I started having problems with the skin on my head. So, to avoid problems. I shaved it clean and it will remain that way until the skin in treated.

I would bet that this isn’t the last time that you get unusually hot temperatures. Between this problem possibly returning and male pattern baldness, you’ll probably face another time when you’re cutting your hair short.

That being said, adapt! Experiment with different facial hair styles, find a cool new hat (but be normal - don’t get something awful like a fedora) or sunglasses. Just because your hair has temporarily changed, it doesn’t mean that you’re a different person

@BackOnMyBS@lemmy.autism.place avatar

First, think about when you see something in film that doesn’t make sense. For example, the final season of Game of Thrones when Danerys goes bonkers out of nowhere. Everyone thought that made no sense because in their own lives, personality is generally stable. People don’t go from being altruistic to genocidal because of a bell. Watchers then blamed the producers for making a terrible decision with the season due to ulterior personal motives.

Think about what a racist’s life looks like. What do their social environments look like? They likely only have a few people of color (PoC) around if any. They may have interactions with PoC at work, but since work is somewhat of a forced experience because their coworkers were chosen by someone else, that’s what interactions there feel like: imposed. So to them, life is a bunch of a White people and PoC are impositions. This is reality for them.

When they see a movie that doesn’t reflect their reality, they notice it and try to make sense of it. Applying what their reality is, they see the PoC as being imposed. The right-wing media then plays off of this and tells them that it’s because a progressive boogeyman is trying to make reality different for nefarious purposes. Progressive people are blamed for their discomfort and so it goes.

ICastFist , to pcgaming in Which game made you realize PC was superior platform to Console (or/and viceversa)?
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

To me, strategy games, mainly the real time ones. Command and Conquer, Age of Empires, Warcraft, Rise of Nations. Not only that, a large number of games had online multiplayer (which I never played back then because dial up), with every player on their own machine and screen!? HOLY SHIT!!!

Oh, even better than any console for the longest time, a significant number of PC games could be SAVED ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME.

Then there was emulation, where even old '95 computers could easily run the majority of SNES/Mega Drive (Genesis) games and back.

www.wi-fi.org/discover-wi-fi/wi-fi-easymesh

Those PP link routers are both eashmesh compatible so they should provide a good experience. Yes running an ethernet cable across your house will get you better performance, but do you know just how expensive/hard that is? My friend was quoted 2.5k to run like 4 ethernet drops in his house through his attic. Trying to do it ourselves also seems like a nightmare so I’m not really sure if I’m going to have to suffer through that.

BeefBeeferson OP ,

My house is such a pain in that regard that I’m tempted to bury a line from my office in the front and around the house to get better coverage on the other side of the house. Not having a basement and how my attic is set up is a nightmare. A middle ground is probably doable but would require me to rip up some flooring, which is not ideal either. Thank you for the input, weighing my options of an AP, or getting one of the above and hopefully have an easier go at it for now, but lose performance.

When I started shaving i went all the way smooth…didnt jive with me. Let it grow and used clippers the next week, set to the closest and that worked great…

You could not ask me to have hair again.

Give yourself a minute…it grows back.
