How do I download YouTube videos in 1080p instead of 4k with yt-dlp?

This is killing me. Videos that are gigabytes in size instead of a couple hundred mb. I don’t have the storage space for this. I don’t have the bandwidth for this. More and more content creators are using 4k video instead of 1080p. Is there an easy way to make it only download videos in 1080p? I’ve found a few commands...

To elaborate a little on this, if the format you want doesn’t have audio you may have to combine two formats. -F lists the formats, -f to choose them. As an example you can choose to combine an audio and video format like this: yt-dlp -f 136+140 [URL]

Shave it. I did when mine started going and the maintenance is super easy. I’d never go back.

At least if still downloads them you can edit them out if it’s something you want to save.

I love mine I’ve had it over 2 years. It was a first-gen DIY Framework 13 and I ran into a faulty fan early on. I worked with their tech support and they sent a replacement fan under warranty. Took 5 minutes to put it in and all parts inside have QR codes that take you to the marketplace for replacements and repair instructions.

They do have official Linux support for Ubuntu and Fedora. I can attest to Linux Mint working well on it although I don’t use the fingerprint reader, which I’ve read has some issues on some distros.

As for upgradability, I’ve not needed to yet but you can just order a new motherboard and any other parts off their marketplace and drop it straight in. Should take around 20 minutes or so. I suspect this would take longer on the 16 since it is more complex.

Also, here is a link to the marketplace if you want to browse the parts. I think you could build one from scratch from here, but I think it would cost more that way. frame.work/marketplace

I’ll second Mint as well. I play mostly small indie games but have played Cyberpunk 2077, Far Cry 5, and Terminator: Resistance with no problems. The worst I’ve experienced is having to tell Steam to use a different version of Proton for some games (I recently had trouble launching Cyberpunk on Proton Experimental so I downgraded to the next most recent and it worked fine). I also have an AMD GPU so no driver mess.

Sometimes you gotta weigh job security and a tolerable work environment into the mix. Working for Musk doesn’t seem low-stress.

What do you do when a great book has an absolutely uninteresting storyline?

I always say to myself that it is not worth to force books through. I do like 1/5th then I drop it if it did not catch me. Now I’m reading Pandora’s star which is a great scifi book and sandwitched inbetween the great scfi chapters there is this uninteresting detective storyline with zero scifi, people talking to eachother...

I had this problem with House of Leaves. The narrator components felt unnecessary, but I didn’t want to read only part of a book. The Navidson Record parts were fortunately compelling enough to pull me through the rest kicking and screaming. I ended up loving it and the narrator sections finally started to pay off to an extent.
