Kima09 , to android in Hidden Gems: Unveiling Apps That Could Have Enhanced Your Experience Sooner?

For me

  1. MiXplorer (Mix) : Clean and powerful file manager at the same time. It’s easy to use for normal user and very powerful for power users.
  2. Lookup Pro: Floating dictionary that can blend in to native Android context menu when highlighting words. It’s similar to iOS lookup or Kindle lookup feature.
  3. Maosure: Google virtual measure app that make use of ARCore library.
  4. Moon+ Reader Pro: favorite ebook reader
  5. Seal: Favorite youtube downloader. Unlike other YT downloader that is riddled with Ads, it FOSS app.
  6. Toolwiz Photos: Best all in one photo editor for me. It’s very underrated. The variety of feature it pack is u match by any photo editing apps for me. From color correction to healing and cloning tools, the fun feature that gets old very fast like face rater, face swap, pip, etc. I just noticed that it has AI painting feature too.
  7. TTS Server : Azure/Ms Edge TTS ported to Android to use it as system wide TTS. It’s the most natural free TTS I’ve ever used. It’s originally Chinese only app, but I forgot where I got English version from.
cy4n ,

MiXplorer is genuinely the best file manager I ever used, has basically everything but keeps being easy to use. and it has theme support!

sharkfeek ,

How does it compare to Amaze File Manager? I’ve just started testing out different file manager apps today

aegis_sum ,

Seconding Moon Reader Pro. Even the basic version is great.

KOreader is great lightweight, feature-packed alternative like Moonreader but substantially different-looking, some may prefer it (I do).

I would love to know some good resources as well. I feel like in most cases I border on the line of knowing just enough to get myself into trouble.

I can only speak for myself, but as a complete newbie who wanted to create an account and figure out how lemmy works, I honestly thought lemmy.world is the main site and everything else is just smaller niche communities.

There was an ELI5 post that clarified how it all works, but that was after I created my account.

Jucksalbe , to retrogaming in Good PS1 games that weren't made in Japan?
@Jucksalbe@lemmy.world avatar

There’s a lot of great Western developed games on the PSX. I think on average they did a better job than on the consoles a generation before. The Tomb Raider games are probably the standout series, the first one is one of the best games on the system. Another big series I didn’t see mentioned is GTA. Maybe the old games are more associated with PC? I played them on PSX and really enjoyed them despite all the slowdown. Heart of Darkness is a nice platformer I just remembered. Also, V-Rally 2 was a pretty good racing game.

I chalk it up to the name. Your name is your central piece of branding, and can be used to your advantage. To me, when I wanted to join what I thought would probably be the largest lemmy instance, I didn’t look at the stats or rules. I just looked at the names of all the not-tiny ones. This one clearly signified to me that the owner intends to become a very large Instance.

To most people, it will simply sound cool and be very easy to remember. Both of those are very important points.

Look at the automotive industry. Performance is desirable in a vehicle, certainly, but according to the market, does it seem more desirable than looking cool and having enough cup holders?

Two for now. With a bit of luck, many more to come

AfricanExpansionist , to nostupidquestions in Is Lemmy.ml instance blocked from Lemmy.world? And when will it federate again?

What’s up with Lemmy.ml? Why would large instances block each other??? I’m genuinely confused

gylotip OP ,

They didn’t block each other. It’s just a server error.

loganmarchione , to nostupidquestions in How did Lemmy.world become more popular than Lemmy.ml?

Lemmy.world is run by an actually competent admin who has experience running other Fediverse software.

Trent , to asklemmy in What is the general stance of lemmy and other fediverse sites in regards to facebook trying the fediverse?

It’s just more embrace, extend, extinguish crap. Meta absolutely shouldn’t be trusted, especially with their track record so far. Most (though not all) instances I know are defederating.
