I've always used the browser, both on mobile and desktop. I tried several different apps but none of them supported tabs, so I couldn't browse reddit the way I was used to and I quickly uninstalled all of them.
Plus, I couldn't find anything wrong with using reddit in a browser. I was on old.reddit with RES when I was using my laptop and on the .compact version on mobile (until it was recently discontinued).
You can only obtain federal Indian benefits if you have a CDIB (blue) card, and sometimes you will also need a tribal enrollment card. You would have to verify your ancestry with the tribe to get those. Calling yourself Indian on the forms won’t hurt anything except risk termination if they claim you lied on you application.
It could be federation buckling under the added weight of the new users from the sudden mass Reddit migration. The instances don’t seem to be defederated, and those lists are public as said above.
But federation failures from sudden increased load could explain it.
A fix for this was introduced in 0.18 and another one in 0.18.1. Version 0.18.1 is in release client 4 now, and lemmy.world just updated yesterday. Lemmy ml is still on 0.18.0 and doesn’t have the 2nd fix yet. There are likely to be many causes to this, but consensus seems to be that federation has drastically improved since world upgraded to 0.18.1rc-4.
So, what to do? Just be patient. These are growing pains and known issues being tracked by devs and admins across instances. If Lemmy.ml and Lemmy.world wanted to defederate, they would do exactly that, instead of some silly shadow-defederation as you’re suggesting.
If you want to follow the issue on GitHub, here is the link:
It’s not just a bug in the code. There are some scalability issues at play. Federation breaks silently (as in the user experience doesn’t change) under heavy load. Lemmy.world came up with a solution, but Lemmy.ml has yet to do anything. Upgrading helps with similar and other issues but doesn’t completely solve the servers being overwhelmed.
I agree. I noticed these issues start when lemmy.ml made their server upgrade awhile back when things were still on 0.17.4. Ruud (lemmy.world admin) mentioned in his pinned post some specifics that he had to do in order to get it working. I trust that these patch work solutions are being communicated back to the devs and trust that they are working on it. The good news is that they needed the traffic to Lemmy to uncover these issues in order to then fix them. All in due time.
No, they aren’t blocked. You can verify this for yourself by visiting lemmy.world/instances and searching for the text “lemmy.ml” (left column means they’re connected, right column means they’re blocked, not appearing means the lemmy.world server doesn’t know that lemmy.ml exists)
You can also visit lemmy.ml/instances and search for the text “lemmy.world” just to check the block isn’t happening the other way around.
I agree with others that what’s happening is likely to be an issue caused by the vast number of new users that are joining Lemmy over the past few weeks (myself included!) - give it time, things will settle down. :)
I have the same issue. Deleting app data and cache stopped the crash at the start, but I cannot log into my account. It seems the reason for the crash was that the lemmy instance I'm on (and that I was still logged into) uses version 17.x, when Jerboa requires 18.x.
They fixed it this morning, but it’s still being buggy for me. I think it’s more on Lemmy’s/.world’s side, at this point. That being said, I’m starting to like wefwef a lot.

Probably just a matter of days or hours. Infinity for Reddit is still working in the developer percent it'll be available for a couple days. I'm not sure the exact logistics of why but for some reason it seems that some people that are pivoting into a paid subscription model are able to stomach a few days
I’m firmly a desktop user here, I’m old-fashioned, I don’t like using my phone, I’d rather be doing just about anything else than reading and typing on a phone screen. But each to their own!
If someone wants to make a desktop app I’d be interested (there never was one for Reddit), but the browser experience is just fine - especially with version 0.18 it’s starting to feel polished.
you clearly aren’t suffering from the random screen fast scroll bug. Every time I try to browse on the desktop, it just starts scrolling like mad and I close the site.
There are bugs but they are getting fewer by the day, I don’t think I’ve had the fast scroll thing for a few days now. But that’s not relevant for me, I have no interest in using my phone so it’s either live with the bugs of the web version or don’t do it at all.
You’re not missing anything by not using apps, as other people said, many people came here because reddit apps stopped working and they’re looking for replacements.
I never used apps on reddit, old.reddit on desktop was by far the best experience for me, I don’t intend to use apps on lemmy either.
desktop browser is the best! if you wanna write a quality comment that links to sources and quotes people, there's just nothing better. I couldn't imagine writing anything useful on some app on a touch screen. and even when I zombiescroll on the toilet, the mobile browser did fine with old.reddit. and no extra software clogging up my devices, that's a massive benefit for me.
Auto Auto-rotate: per app rotation settings. Free, open source.
Missed notifications reminder: adds a repeating sound or vibration if a watched app has an active notification. Ie, you got an email when you were away from your phone so every few minutes your phone makes a beep or whatever so you don't need to check the screen constantly. Free, open source.
MJ PDF: simple, fast PDF reader. Free, open source.
Snap drop: web based instant file transfer between devices. Free, open source.
X-Plore: the only file manager that ever clicked for me. Dual pane that's really intuitive. Absolutely packed with features (connects with local network, cloud providers, ftp, ssh, dlna, has file sync)
The evolution and items system layered on top add a ton of replayability. I agree that it needs to come to steam, I’ve played a bunch on my steam deck and it feels like a hit if they can get a bigger audience to see it
