They weren’t good because they were reds. They weren’t even really RU/SU-aligned. They were good because they were progressive and also happened to be neutral in terms of foreign affairs. But they learnt that the US funded the taliban and that’s why the reds were invited in. The US got word. And disaster ensued.

That user who suggested we ‘help’ is either malicious or ignorant. Because help doesn’t mean we release the reserves of money we’ve stolen from the Afghans. It means invade them again, whether she means it or not.

The best thing we can do now is let the Afghans be sovereign and no longer interfere (which won’t happen). You can expect nothing good socially from there, as the Americans helped the Taliban defeat local progressive and secular forces in the 70s. All we can hope for is for them to eventually stand up on their own two feet.

Anyone who whines about the plight of Afghan women is either doing propaganda or is misled. Afghan women have children too btw - children that are starving - have Biden release the reserves.

The ironic thing is, only a few weeks ago we had redditors calling Lemmy devs tankies and telling people not to come here lol. And now we’re losing potential users because of paranoia from lemmydotworld admins.

Feel free to make an account on another instance like lemm.ee (a general sensible instance) or lemmy.cafe (run by a guy, new) or a country-based instance where people of that country congregate. You might do this to keep your interests or purposes for the accounts separate or in case the lemmy.world server is down (even for a short while), or to potentially access defederated instances and their communities.

For now if you want another account, you just make another (with any username you want, I have an account with the same username on lemm.ee). It’s possible to port subscriptions and blocked users and communities to a new account using some software. While that is useful, it’s not a proper account migration.

However keep in mind you can mostly access most other instances from your home instance. In that case your username (and instance) ‘carry over’.

On the off chance lemmy.world has defederated from an instance, and you can’t access it, you can join another general, neutral instance like lemm.ee

I think some idiots/bots from another instance to do with a political topic did it lol. They’ve done it to a few comments. We haven’t left reddit apparently.

Do you think lemmy admins could see the downvoters and check if they’re using bots?

Yeah I noticed that.

I just checked, there are 40 downvotes (78 upvotes). That’s wierd - I checked other posts and they don’t seem to have anything like that - I saw none in the double digits.

I might just have to keep a separate account for posting politics which is sad but necessary so that my posts/comments are ranked according to utility and not just downvoted by angry nerds. I’ll probably make a post about this somewhere too.

Btw, the West was involved in all of that. The French exported surveillance tech they use to surveil their own marginalised Muslim population. The Brits exported their ‘Prevent system’ that they use to harrass Muslim children and families, calling them terrorists.

China has now stopped the alleged human rights abuses according to the associated press (AP are CIA affiliated back from the Cold War).
