activ8r , to lemmyshitpost in Dude almost lost his life

That guy isnā€™t a Dom. He is just a sexually aggressive partner.
Real Doms require consent and that guy did not consent to being spoken to like that. Once boundaries have been established then that kinda talk can be hot as fuck, but based purely on this video alone the interviewer could have been anyone.

Overtly aggressive talk like that right out of the gate is not sexy, itā€™s just aggressive and can go very wrong if the person you are talking to is a sexual abuse victim (which, in my experience, does appear to be more common in members of the BDSM community, make of that what you will).

So anyone who looks at this video and sees no issue with his behaviour, take a step back and look at yourself. You donā€™t know what other people have been through and itā€™s incredibly important to make sure that people have a foundation of safety in any D/S communication, no matter how brief.

I can only hope that this wasnā€™t their first interaction and it was played up a bit for the camera. Otherwise this is simply unacceptable.

0x4E4F OP ,

(which, in my experience, does appear to be more common in members of the BDSM community, make of that what you will)

Itā€™s what they know. If they were children when it happened, it shaped their view on sex for their entire life. There is no going back from that. You can surprese the feelings, but you really canā€™t experience sex in any other wayā€¦ or, you can, but this happens very rarely (very few individuals). They even sometimes see love through that perspective.

Canā€™t blame themā€¦ itā€™s fucked up, but the best they can do is just move on and do whatever makes them happy, even if it is BDSM.

activ8r ,

I agree there is definitely some element of that for many people. I am a Domme myself and a lot of that is liking the control in the bedroom. I would never dream of talking to someone like that as a first interaction, but I have said much worse without blinking an eye under the right circumstances.
The opposite is true as well. I have found many Subs that like to be submissive within strict boundaries. At the end of the day itā€™s all about having control and that is defined on both sides, just in different ways.
Iā€™m sure there are infinite more circumstances and thought processes as well.

Though I would like to highlight itā€™s not everyone. People are all different and there are many members of the BDSM community that havenā€™t experienced sexual abuse or any other kind of abuse. Just normal people that like to get freaky.

0x4E4F OP ,

I am a Domme myself and a lot of that is liking the control in the bedroom.

Yes, I do like control in the bedroom as well. I think I would be a domm if I was in D/S relationship, but itā€™s too late for that now. I got a family, a kid, my wife is (mostly) mainstream regarding sex (toys, spanking, anal - very rarely though, but thatā€™s about it).

But I do wonder from time to time what my life would have been like if I accepted a few indecent proposals Iā€™ve had over the yearsā€¦ broke up with my wife (we were still dating back then) and just went allong with that. I like having a family, no question there, but I would most definitely change my sex partner. One, not enough of it (sex), two, doesnā€™t really fulfill my desires, three, I have to masturbate a lot because I donā€™t get what I want in the bedroom.

But, things are what they are. I can only fanstaize now and speak about it with complete strangers, since this is not something that society thinks itā€™s normal (at least not where I live).

I would never dream of talking to someone like that as a first interaction, but I have said much worse without blinking an eye under the right circumstances.

Of course, goes without saying. I am a very gentle lover of Iā€™m with someone I donā€™t know, but once you figure out what that person likes or dislikes, yeah, things can get very heated with me as well.

But, yeah, to be honest, if the other person wants to just ā€œmake loveā€ (like spread your legs, hump for 10 minutes and get it over with, or if she wants it gentle all the time) yeah, that is a downer for me).

Just normal people that like to get freaky.

Maybe Iā€™m one of those, lol šŸ˜‚. Havenā€™t really thought about classifying what kind of a kinky person I am šŸ˜‚. I have a few, some are related to BDSM, some no.

Catoblepas ,

I think itā€™s incredibly telling that very few people are considering it sexual harassment at all for a stranger to come up to someone on the street, shove a camera and microphone in their face, and start questioning them about their sexuality and sex life.

Iā€™m sure it has nothing to do with the guy who started and continued talking about sex being a baby faced white guy and the other dude being a fit black guy.

MaoZedongers ,

Yes we should make being an on the ground reporter illegal they shouldnā€™t be allowed to ask people questions in public thatā€™s crazy and he was forced to answer, he totally couldnā€™t just like ignore him and keep walking, what an invasion of privacy in public.

activ8r ,

Iā€™m sure it has nothing to do with the guy who started and continued talking about sex being a baby faced white guy and the other dude being a fit black guy.

Itā€™s not.

I think itā€™s incredibly telling that very few people are considering it sexual harassment at all for a stranger to come up to someone on the street, shove a camera and microphone in their face, and start questioning them about their sexuality and sex life.

Asking a question about someoneā€™s sexuality isnā€™t sexual harassment. Thatā€™s a really weird thing to think.

Catoblepas ,

Since you apparently stopped watching as soon as he asked ā€œare you gay,ā€ the question he asked after that was ā€œare you a top or a bottom?ā€

If for some reason you think thatā€™s a more appropriate question to ask a stranger with a camera in their face than ā€œdo you use condoms?ā€ or ā€œhave you ever tried BDSM?ā€ then that is also a self report.

activ8r ,

I started writing an annoyed reply then realised that maybe you just have a radically different level of comfort than I do.
Iā€™ll ask some of my friends who are not in the BDSM community for their opinion and I promise to have an honest re-evaluation of my thoughts on this, while taking your perspective to heart.
Please consider that the video does appear to be in a setting where people would be more likely to answer these questions happily. However I am basing that on a few assumptions, so maybe I am mistaken.

I would ask you to consider how your comments come across to others. Iā€™m sure you are simply trying to establish reasonable boundaries for people of your comfort level, and I absolutely respect that, but your comments in response to me were very aggressive from the beginning.
And yes, I do see how my exact complaint with your comments may be related to your point about the video. I will take some time to give that consideration as well.

Neon ,

Asking a question about someoneā€™s sexuality isnā€™t sexual harassment. Thatā€™s a really weird thing to think.

if iā€™m asking a friend in a quiet place itā€™s not. If i go up to a Stranger with a Camera, it is.

Using ad-blockers is actually better for the environment too.

helenslunch ,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I mean, yes? But also this is like that stupid iPhone setting that diverts your charging to off-peak hours or something. Itā€™s such an incredibly small difference.

gon ,

If itā€™s worth doing at all, itā€™s worth doing a little bit.

I believe youā€™re referring to iPhoneā€™s clean energy charging feature. Hereā€™s my question: if you can use clean energy, why wouldnā€™t you? It might make very little difference to the environment, but a little difference is still a difference.

Still, using ad-blockers is really not like that iPhone feature:

  1. That feature relies on the grid itself, meaning itā€™s useless for a lot of people that have basically no clean energy where they live, while ad-blockers can be useful to anyone using the internet.
  2. It may be to the userā€™s detriment, while ad-blockers improve user experience.
  3. Itā€™s device dependent, whereas ad-blockers are available to virtually everyone, not just iPhone users.
  4. Ad-blockers can be combined with clean energy charging.

The impact ad-blockers can have on the environment is similar to iPhoneā€™s clean energy charging in the same way a healthy diet is similar to eating a carrot. Yes, on the surface level they do just reduce your consumption of fossil fuel-generated energy, but ad-blockers reduce your energy consumption overall, not just trade it for green energy (that still requires tons of fossil fuels to be burned).

Much love,
gon

Should you use ad blockers? Yes, absolutely. Is ā€œsaving the environmentā€ a legitimate reason? I would argue no.

Considering most deaths in bed are probably somewhat drawn out and painful, ending it in a few seconds off a mountain isnā€™t awful - however, dying while young and for no other reason than climbing rocks isnā€™t the same as dying after a long life and all that.

Whatever. Itā€™s what he wants to do, and as long as he doesnā€™t hurt anyone else itā€™s fine. I donā€™t get the admiration, though.

GiddyGap ,

as long as he doesnā€™t hurt anyone else itā€™s fine.

The whole conversation was about doing this while having children and a family. He would be hurting others.

RememberTheApollo_ ,

Thatā€™s between him and his family. While I agree with you and that it will cause damage to them, I meant it more in context of activities that cause harm to society in general. No different than any other legitimized extreme sport. Street racers taking out pedestrians, drunks drivers doing the same, etc. I realize the difference in legality, but nonetheless they are activities that cause external harm to society.

GiddyGap ,

Children donā€™t decide for themselves. If youā€™re a father, you have responsibilities to your child. Risking your life in this way affects the child in a profound way, especially if you slip and die. Thatā€™s not ok.

Tp anyone curious: Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Around me I could hear concrete cracking. I started back to the car to get the dog, but was thrown before I could reach it. The car itself began to slide from side to side on the roadway. I decided the bridge was breaking up and my only hope was to get back to shore. On hands and knees most of the time, I crawled 500 yards [1,500 ft; 460 m] or more to the towers ā€¦ My breath was coming in gasps; my knees were raw and bleeding, my hands bruised and swollen from gripping the concrete curb ā€¦ Towards the last, I risked rising to my feet and running a few yards at a time ā€¦ Safely back at the toll plaza, I saw the bridge in its final collapse and saw my car plunge into the Narrows.

-Leonard Coatsworth, the last person to drive on the bridge and the owner of the car featured in the video.

There was a dog in the car when the bridge collapsed.

Pyro ,

Gork OP ,

Iā€™m guessing he didnā€™t expect the bridge to come down, and letting your dog run loose on a highway is generally a bad idea.
