What happens to those who are severely disabled while in prison?
For some reason began going down a rabbit hole thinking about this. Let’s say you are blind, and reliant on a guide dog, but end up in prison for a non-violent crime like possession of illegal drugs. Are you allowed to keep the dog? No, right? But if you are entirely reliant on the guide dog to perform daily tasks, how do you...
Nextcloud appreciation post
After months of waiting, I finally got myself an instance with Libre Cloud. I was expecting basic file storage with a few goodies but boy, this is soooo much more. I am amaze by how complete this is!!! Apps let me configure my instance to fit everything I need, my workflow is now crazy fast and I can finally say goodbye to...
Is anyone using VMware under a Wayland host?
I’ve been using VMware Player (free version) for a while now and it’s been working fine. Recently I switched to Wayland and VMware’s grab input behavior broke. The guest gets most keys correctly but Alt and Super are intercepted by the host. Clicking on the vm also gives me a remote desktop popup on the host prompting to...
Do I need a new phone for 2FA? (Tad Long)
So recently my work, a mid sized engineering firm, decided to start upgrading their IT security. The rumor is that we have potential DOD work coming our way. Over the past few months there has been multiple company decided changes to our 2 factor authentication mobile app. I willingly installed the app on my phone over a year...
In Buddhist view: If all misfortune/suffering is deserved due to bad karma of past actions in a prior life, why advocate ahimsa/nonviolence?
A Buddhist was saying to me that anything bad that happens to someone is deserved because they must have had bad karma as a result of having done something bad, either in this life or a previous incarnation. I don’t believe in any of this personally, but I think it would be helpful to understand the idea of karma a bit better,...

Just switched back to Linux
So after one of my recent comments about if Linux is ready for gaming, I decided to pick-up a new Intel based wifi adapter (old one was broadcom and the drivers on fedora sucked and would drop connection every few minutes)....

What is a simple server solution for Jellyfin and Nextcloud?
I have a really bad “server” (just a laptop) that runs Fedora Server and uses Docker Compose to host Jellyfin. It has been very annoying to update (the web GUI for Fedora doesn’t even work half of the time), updating is painful, and it’s a pain to manage. I am trying to redo my entire setup, so I will be getting a NAS to...
Al Jazeera could probably fire/replace its writers with LLMs, rebrand as AI Jazeera, and no one would immediately notice.
I’m not dunking on their writers, just how Al and AI look the same in most fonts.

How fatal and painful is it if my belly gets stabbed/ripped open?
If someone suddenly attacks me with a pocket knife, for example, they’ll most likely immediately go right for my belly, since I am 6’5" tall, and stab or rip it open. Therefore, I’m curious how fatal and painful such a wound is?
How do you manage your headphone cables?
I recently switched from wireless to wired headphones (Samson SR-850, probably the best for the very reasonable price) and my chair’s wheels instantly started eating its cable. Right now I’m using a small plastic hook that came with a face mask to keep it off the floor, but I’d like to hear other solutions.

Finally got a UPS
Keeping tradition with doing things backwards, I’ve finally got a UPS for the rack (mounted in the bottom of the stack). Got a PowerWalker VI 2200R. Its a 2U unit which is all the space I’ve got left in the rack. Decent price and decent I/O with USB, serial and a slot-in for network expansion + 4 IEC outputs. Its powering...

Sometimes when I say danke (thanks or thank you) some of my friends will say (and the spelling is wrong but it's as close as I can get) they will say danata or maybe it's dinata.
I assumed they meant thanks but a Google search doesn’t give me that kind of result. What does dinata mean and what language is it from?
Have we been able to reproduce the conditions to bend rocks? (Even if in a lab.)
Tectonic activity bends rocks all the time, even hard ones like granite. That takes a ton of heat, pressure and time. It also makes sense that in the right conditions, sheets of rock simply don’t have the room to shatter so they must bend....
