I know at least some of them are in the same universe even.

Did some searching, the guy is Robert Kurvitz and he’s only written the one book, Sacred and Terrible Air. It never got an official translation, but there’s two independent translations. I would go for the one that didn’t get machine translated and intensively rewritten several times lmao

yuri ,

I love me some Turok, anyone play the remasters? I’m worried they might not be as special without the clunky ass n64 controller and a frankly untenable amount of fog.

yuri ,

I love The Left Hand of Darkness but it’s kind of a slow burn.

I know it’s neither of the authors you listed, but I’d honestly recommend The Hitchhiker’s Guide. It’s light, fast, and sure to help get your brain back into the groove of reading.

Why Assassin's Creed has lost its identity?

Remember those iconic games before 2014? The OG, while dated was really unique for its time, the Ezio Auditore Trilogy that became the standard for the franchise, 3, that was very ambitious (probably too much) with it’s setting and story telling. Even 4, although it was the first time AC escaped from the base of what an...

yuri ,

I also expect the japan one to be lackluster at this point, which sucks because it was the only setting I’ve actually been excited about for an AC game.

yuri ,

Valve probably hit em with a pretty high price for licensing. Not high enough to be entirely unreasonable, but I reckon they know they have the best OS by far.

every month i send off $10k for “the benefit and continued development of rickyrigatoni” and you’re telling me you work for FREE?

who’s been cashing the checks, ricky?

Can anyone help me with a problem with Photoshop on Linux (Lutris) (feddit.nl)

I managed to get Photoshop CS6 installed on Lutris, using the script on their site. The problem is however, that whenever I open a file (doesn’t matter if it is jpg, png, psd, etc.) the screen remains black. I can see the picture in the Layer thumbnail, but not in the main work-area. Does anyone know what the problem might be?...

yuri ,

I also struggled to get photoshop up and running on my linux machine, I was even going for cs6 too funnily enough. Purely out of exasperation I ended up trying photogimp, and I haven’t looked back since.

I think the look they’re going for is like, current gen photoshop essentials? I don’t really care, it’s close enough to cs6 that it doesn’t feel like I’ve had to relearn anything.

yuri ,

They launched that whole fucken fashion line as a pr stunt, it pains me that they’re actually pretty snazzy clothes

yuri ,

I started making whacky artistic progress after I started sketching shitty little project plans. Weird improvements too, like now I can imagne taking something apart and picture all the individual bits fitting together. Learning by doing rather than practicing just to practice is like night and day for me.

The first ferangi in statfleet loses a leg and gets PTSD so hard he becomes addicted to managing a VR casino with his new best friend, the holographic lounge singer.

Homie made a career out of pica. Like it or not he was a better entrepreneur than you or I.

Given he was born in 1950, he only died like 10 years below his life expectancy. People lose more than that to bad genes, I think he did alright for himself.

Study reveals "widespread, bipartisan aversion" to neighbors owning AR-15 rifles (www.psypost.org)

A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that across all political and social groups in the United States, there is a strong preference against living near AR-15 rifle owners and neighbors who store guns outside of locked safes. This surprising consensus suggests that when it comes...

Same with the fucken “Most people are demonstrably unsafe drivers”. Shit REEKS of self aggrandizement, but then again most conservatives seem to anymore.

yuri ,

However you self identify, you share a lot of the same red flags.

yuri ,

This is what I was looking for, shit is Dogwelder levels of silly.

motherfucker traps and kills dogs in alleyways AS A HOBBY.

Probably loads less then you would need for signage. I reckon you could get away with no redundancy if you went with a large enough base size on the grid.

You can go as far as replacing the square “pixels” with circular dots and it still reads fine, qr codes are kind of amazing.

I heard a story that back in the 80s there were some foreign diamond salesmen that came in around the 4th of July. I forget their nationality, but they had never seen fireflies before. They got invited to a fireworks display, and someone there showed them that when you squish a firefly it leaves a glowing smear.

Anyway they scurry off to look at fireflies for a while, everyone else watches the fireworks. No one really pays them any mind until they come back to the crowded area, and suddenly everyone is noticing that they’ve given themselves glowing war-paint.

I wanna say they were Japanese, but google says there are fireflies in Japan. Maybe they were just real goofy guys. Either way it’s an insane energy to bring to a party and I think about it a lot.

It’s like you already have a 300kb game on a cartridge, but it doesn’t work for some unknown reason. Also you don’t actually have the cartridge, some randy in Greenland does. And they only answer emails once every 2 days or so.

yuri ,

If GTA 5 came out today it wouldn’t be worth $60. The “big open sandbox” experience isn’t as big a pull as it used to be.

I bought 5 because it was “the next GTA” and I remembered having a good time with 4. Today it’s a little harder to remember the last time i even played a GTA game. 5 released a decade ago, 4 is going on 16 years old, fucken San Andreas turns 20 this year.

The next release is just gonna be GTA Online 2, we all know it already.

The series that brought women to the front line…

Immediately after posting that comment I went and started watching the fucken vampire diaries video again

Jesus fuck the snails LIVE? What a wild article.

yuri ,

The birds don’t even eat the snails, just the eyes. They grow back and the snail is just fine apparently.

“Ah jeeze I’m blind on a leaf again! That’s the last time I eat bird shit!” says the snail, actively meandering it’s way towards a particularly appetizing pile of parasite-laden bird shit.

yuri ,

Y’know there’s actually myriad industries that completely lack compulsory air travel, believe it or not.

yuri ,

You can remap controllers on pc though, like at a system level if you use steam. I remember having to go through a whole rigamarole to customize controls for a mobile game that didn’t support controller, I had to use a weird third party tool that interpreted the controller input as virtual screen touches. It almost kinda worked lmao

yuri ,

I forget that games like genshin exist lol

yuri ,

I bought a poster of the orignal roadster in like 2008 at an elementary school book fair, shit was so cool

yuri ,

So funnily enough, the very first movement they submitted to the contest in 1963 was a quartz, and it placed tenth overall. They went with mechanical movements for subsequent competitions, and didn’t actually start placing high again until 1966 when they placed ninth overall. In ‘67 they did even better, placing fourth, but then the contest was canceled for good the next year.

yuri ,

As worse and worse win11 features are unveiled it’s so funny to see these posts slowly filled with more “yeah i just switched to linux” comments.

yuri ,

don’t remind me of better days

yuri ,

I only recently realized how amazing the controller customization is on the deck. Being able to edit your entire control scheme completely on the fly without even closing the game is a real gamechanger.

I remember fighting with third party tools just to get simple shit like macros or mouse control mapped to a controller. Now I can set up complex doodads like button chords and mode shifts, it feels like the future.

yuri ,

It’s kinda hard to separate the art from the artist when the art is actually full of racist and classiest themes, and the artist in question is actively being a huge bigot at every given opportunity.

Fucken Rae Dunn, dog. I knew a girl who had two kids straight out of high school and blew her entire income on trendy housewares for the apartment she could barely afford. When I broke contact she was buying halloween variants of serving dishes she had already never used. Last I heard her parents have those kids now.

yuri ,

ayyyy that’s been my go to! sometimes when the normal hosts don’t resolve it’ll start auto-playing russian dubs, it’s so silly.

Fucken William H. Macy is all like “вот что ты пропустил на прошлой неделе в сериале Shameless” and I just lose it.

Lousiana got some nice ones. Sometimes the trees are dense enough you get a full canopy of spanish moss. Some of the only real forests I’ve been able to see in person, beautiful area.

Mad respect, thanks for sharing!

To me bloat is anything using resources when I didn’t ask it to. Someday I’ll have more than 16 gigs of ram to throw around, maybe then I won’t be such a memory miser. One of the biggest things that pushed me into linux was the myriad of live service-esque background processes windows was forcing on me.

If I was a little less dyslexic I’d have a CLI for everything, now THAT’S efficiency!

yuri ,

too much libsodium

yuri ,

I judged your position.

I attacked the rapid shifting of topics as you lost steam, and the continued insistence that this course of action had any purpose other than to save face.

But please, go off, king! You’re killin it out here, only giving money only to preferencial billionaires.

yuri ,

Never told you how to feel babe, I think it’s stupid so I called it stupid. You’re not obligated to agree with me, and I wouldn’t demand that you do.

You’re being real defensive and dodgey when you could just say “fuck off” and move on! My opinion of what you do with your money doesn’t matter, I’m just some snarky fuck on the internet.
