I have tried so many keyboards, FOSS one included but nothing is as refined as Gboard without internet access.

UN warns against implanting AI chips in your brain because it could threaten your mental privacy (www.businessinsider.com)

UN warns against implanting AI chips in your brain because it could threaten your mental privacy::Officials from the United Nations warned that there needs to be a “common ethical framework at the international level” for neurotechnology.

jacktherippah ,

GrapheneOS for brain should be coming in a few decades, eh?

jacktherippah ,

Wow bro you don’t have a brain!? So what’s currently in your head?

U.S. to decide soon on GM's request to deploy cars without steering wheels (www.autoblog.com)

U.S. to decide soon on GM’s request to deploy cars without steering wheels::U.S. regulators will soon decide on a petition filed by General Motors’ Cruise self-driving technology unit seeking permission to deploy up to 2,500 self-driving vehicles annually without human controls, a top auto safety official said on Wednesday.

jacktherippah ,

Well, looks like you have a cat now buddy.

jacktherippah ,

Recent versions of Jerboa are the best I’ve tried.

Gestures are faster and more intuitive. You don’t have to do hand gymnastics just to get to the recents apps screen or to go back. The gesture bar can be hidden and it will still work, unlike the buttons which you have to swipe up to bring back, and even when shown it doesn’t take up much screen real estate. Apple got it right when they brought gestures to the iPhone and I’m glad Google copied.

jacktherippah ,

That’s kind of an understatement, eh?

jacktherippah ,

I bought one unlocked, and unless you consider Google apps bloat, there is nothing on there. Its so clean.

jacktherippah ,

First you have to unlock the bootllader. For US (Canada too maybe?) models its straight up impossible. And for models which can be unlocked, Knox gets tripped which leads to a whole host of other problems. Even then, you still don’t have custom ROMs to flash. This makes Samsung phones straight up unviable for me. Kind of sad to see when I had a really nice custom ROM experience with my first Samsung in 2014.

jacktherippah ,

Phone in right front pocket, screen facing my thigh, camera side down. When I pull it out, the phone wakes and I put my fingerprint in.

jacktherippah ,

Check your dock/adapter and HDMI cable.

jacktherippah ,

OP is super passive aggressive for no reason.

jacktherippah ,

Looks like they’re not doing that any time soon since Fairphones don’t meet their minimum requirements. See: reddit.com/…/has_anyone_managed_to_install_graphe…

jacktherippah ,

I just checked it out. LOL no they aren’t. Reddit is still thriving.

jacktherippah ,

It looks cool, but I do wonder how accurate it is.

jacktherippah ,

I don’t want to see award speeches here on Lemmy. For example: OMG! THANK YOU FOR THE GOLD KIND STRANGER!!!1111

jacktherippah ,

Using Authenticator Pro on Android. Working well for me.

jacktherippah ,

Nope! Actually I’m kind of glad I did so. Lemmy is wayyyy nicer than that cesspool.

jacktherippah ,

There’s a whole instance for it lmao. lemmynsfw.com

jacktherippah ,

I use Mullvad VPN and so far it’s been fantastic.

jacktherippah ,

Ugh. We need to stop talking about Reddit outside of the relevant communities. Seriously, it’s been a week. It’s done. It’s over. Let’s move on.

jacktherippah ,

Oh, I meant July 1st, the free API cutoff date.

"Unless the house is on fire or you are hurt, do not interrupt me on the phone!"

Hi everyone, this is a small but hopefully enjoyable bit of MC from my childhood. Way back when, my Dad worked in IT and worked from home. This is back in the early days of telecommuting and so most of his day was spent on calls in between actual technical stuff. The internet was in its infancy, so if he was working he really...

I think the average person just simply doesn't care about their privacy.

In some of the music communities I’m in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They’re all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match… Mark was right to call the people he’s leaching off of fucking idiots.

jacktherippah ,

In my opinion, they do care about privacy from people around them like you and me, they just don’t seem to care when it’s big tech companies like Meta or Google. Like for example, they won’t show you or me their “sensitive photos”, but it’s fully backed up to iCloud or Google Photos, yknow.

jacktherippah OP ,

Yeah, it already is annoying, can I ask how I’d train her not to do that? Usually when she bites me I’ll just leave.

jacktherippah OP ,

I did some research when my family got her and it seems like at this kitten stage that means she wants to play with you.

jacktherippah ,

On a more serious note, your tablet might just be too old. Reddit’s official app requires Android 8.0+, while Joey only requires on Android 5.0. So that might be the reason why.

My OnePlus 8 pro finally crapped out, need new phone suggestions

Hey y’all, my OnePlus 8 pro is donezo, ling story short it got major damage that I just didn’t even see happen but it was on its way out regardless. Now the reason I got a OnePlus is because when I first got them, they were the pinnacle of “moddable phones” any root or rom you could think of it was basically built to be...

jacktherippah ,

Can’t beat the Pixel in that regard. Google doesn’t give two hoots what you do with your phone once you buy it. You can flash custom ROMs, unlock AND relock bootloader,… you name it. Pixels are really fantastic for that reason.

YSK: Signal is a great secure private messenger app comparable to others on the market. (restoreprivacy.com)

“When you use Signal, your data is stored in encrypted form on your devices. The only information that is stored on the Signal servers for each account is the phone number you registered with, the date and time you joined the service, and the date you last logged on.”...

jacktherippah ,

I prefer matrix since no phone number is required for signup there.

jacktherippah ,

Yeah, definitely engaging way more than before. People are nicer here.

Authenticator Pro, Bitwarden, KDE Connect.

What are Android's Best Weather Apps?

Ever since I started using smart phones, I have been jumping between different weather apps and have not been very satisfied with most of them. I found the apps from the big weather providers like Accuweather and Weather Channel to be bloated and distracting with advertisements and irrelevant news. The app I was closest to being...

jacktherippah ,

Here’s a fork of Geometric Weather that’s still being maintained, which is what I use now: github.com/breezy-weather/breezy-weather

jacktherippah ,

spez is unironically the best thing to happen to Lemmy lmao.

jacktherippah ,

I have no idea if it works but you could try your luck with Gadgetbridge

jacktherippah OP ,

Isn’t lemmur dead? Liftoff is a fork of Lemmur.

jacktherippah ,

Sync is gonna be awesome. Would fill the gaping hole Infinity left behind.
