I did theatre in high school (a decade ago) and we performed the straight play The Boys Next Door, a story about four intellectually disabled men living together with the help of their caretaker. The original show was written circa 1988, and uses “retarded” as the word to describe the men. Obviously for a high school play, we couldn’t use that.

Our director interfaced with a local group to determine what the correct terminology should be, and over the course of rehearsal, we changed the phrase from mentally challenged to intellectually challenged to intellectually disabled. It was important to us to make sure we got it right, but it was also surprising that the term changed very quickly.

Not sure what the politically correct term is nowadays, I try and avoid the R slur. Point is, this is a dumb greentext among the many I have saved; I Guess I could have picked a different one.

I know a few people who work for companies that acknowledge and give time off for Juneteenth. My company is not such a company, though.

Spectrum, even, treats Juneteenth like any other federal holiday, like Christmas or Thanksgiving. It’s basically a volunteer-first, lottery system for who gets time off and who has to work, but those that work get extra holiday pay and the call centers try and do something extra (like catering) for those that are working.

There is a long-standing history of using fried chicken and watermelon (among other foods) to negatively depict Black People in the United States. I agree that both foods are excellent (watermelon even being a popular summertime fruit that can feed a lot of people), but having them together on Juneteenth (a day of celebration for the freedom of Black People) is pretty on the nose.

Back in the early days I found Firefox to be clunkier and slower than Chrome, which was the reason for my using Chrome for well over a decade. But since Chrome became Google’s My Little Spyware, I’ve moved back to Firefox and it’s so much better. More stable, better customization, and way more privacy focused.

Someone else said it but yeah, this feels like astroturfing.

I’ve got to +1 to Bazzite. I had tons of issues with Debian and its derivatives, but Bazzite works flawlessly out of the box. I use an AMD GPU but it has out-of-box support for Nvidia, I hear.

Sorry this isn’t an answer to your problem. I had similar issues when toying with Debian and Linux Mint on my laptop (Nvidia GPU). Ultimately I gave up and put EndeavourOS on it, which worked perfectly as well.

What are some alternatives? I’ve heard Tidal is one of the better ones. I’m not necessarily opposed to piracy/ripping my CD collection + self-hosted streaming, but if I can pay someone else for the convenience I’d rather do that.

Metallica spearheaded the movement against the music sharing platform Napster back in the day. Lars Ulrich in general was a big opponent of music piracy. (Although, apparently he has since chilled out a bit).

He’s also just not a good drummer.

It’s rare, but as a long-haired (cis) male, someone might refer to me as ma’am or miss. It hasn’t happened since I worked retail 7 or 8 years ago.

Admittedly, I don’t have many trans folks in my life to refer to. If I see someone and their gender is ambiguous, I default to they/them pronouns. I don’t think I’ve ever offended anyone from misgendering them. I try to respect people and their identities. Hell, I don’t even like misgendering dogs 😅

In middle school, I had an incident where a kid a grade above me (he was held back, so he should’ve been a high schooler by this point and was HUGE) began to mess with me, unprompted, at the end of the day.

He stepped on my shoes as we walked, poked me, called me names, etc. When I turned around and called him a bitch and kept walking, he sucker punched me and ran. It was so bad I ended up in the emergency room with stitches.

Anyways, my parents were called and they threatened legal action. The school begged them not to, because they were “going to take care of it, we promise.” Once we found out he was only suspended for a week, my parents got all the info they needed to press charges for assault. He ended up in juvie.

Looking back, it’s a shame he ended up “in the system,” but that’s what he gets for being a bitch. Lol

I used to be a big hater of Crocs. Ugly, rubbery, cheap looking things that anyone should be ashamed of wearing.

I needed a new pair of shoes for a new little garden patio we did up. On a whim, I tried a pair of Crocs (with semi-ironic weed leaf print), and honestly? They’re pretty good shoes. I wear em when I do other various chores that might have me going outside.

I live in the US. Last year I had a wisdom tooth removal and was prescribed Hydrocodone, like you.

Gaslighting is the process of making someone question their own beliefs. It’s usually seen in the context of abusive relationships, but any person can gaslight any other person in whatever context (i.e., politics, etc).
