The hilarious thing is that Sony could open their own pc storefront selling steam keys, keep their 30%, and the only restriction would be maintaining price parity with the same game on the Steam storefront.

For a. Company like Sony that already has all the payment processing and customer service knowhow, this would be far easier for them than most.

Yet they can’t or won’t bother because suits are fucking stupid.

The biggest reason trump won in 2016 was, apart from Clinton’s unfavorables, his sense of humor. He could throw out zingers and also be surprisingly self deprecating.

His problem is that no one was in the mood for any humor in 2020 as he had royally fucked up covid and now in 2024 he’s obviously in mental decline. He’s still good for a quip once in a while but he’s not nearly as funny now as he used to be and way less funny than he thinks he is.

Biden, meanwhile, for better or worse is exactly the same now as he was four years ago. A little more soft spoken maybe but he hasn’t changed nearly as much as Trump has.

ashok36 ,

If you don’t see progress, it’s because you’re not paying attention. Each test flight of starship has performed better than the last.

ashok36 ,

They caused him to try to kill himself. $1m is low in my opinion. I just wish it came out of the cops retirement fund.

ashok36 ,

Not settled in court. An independent law firm investigates the allegations. No court has touched this and likely never will.

ashok36 ,

It’s pretty much sterile if you have a catheter. That’s why the joke in Dodge ball about Patches drinking his own piss works so well. He’s a cripple, so he has a catheter, so “it’s sterile and I like the taste!”.

ashok36 ,

Bluetooth and USB speakerphones seem to work fairly well as both mic and speaker. I think thr sennheiser sp20 has been in a couple tinkerers posts I’ve seen.

ashok36 ,

You can get a decent five year old ThinkPad off ebay that will run circles around an rpi5 for most tasks. The price, after case, power supply, and storage won’t be that far off either.

ashok36 ,

Randos saying punk bands aren’t punk enough. A tale as old as time.

ashok36 ,

Sounds like something a cop would say. You a cop?

ashok36 ,

Also the fact that one bad year in your tiny part of the world means you and everyone you know die slow agonizing deaths. Fun!

ashok36 ,

The older I get, the more becoming a robot tiger seems like as good a retirement plan as I’m gonna get.

ashok36 ,

Marijuana is not a gateway drug.

Having to deal with a drug dealer that wants to also sell you actually addictive drugs is the gateway.

Legalize pot, sell it at the grocery store, and you will watch the number of addicts in general fall precipitously. I guarantee it.

ashok36 ,

The question isn’t whether Marijuana is habit forming. Obviously for some percentage it is. The question is whether Marijuana use in and of itself encourages or preface additional drug use. My position is that it does not and by legalizing Marijuana we would find that it is the interaction with black market drug dealers which correlates instead.

ashok36 ,

Ignore the polls. Look at the trump signs around you. At least where I’m at in Florida, they’re probably at tenth of what they were in 2020. I was a republican in 2020 that voted for Biden and renounced my affiliation after the senate acquitted in the second impeachment. The only demographic that Trump is seeing increased support from is young men, a famously allergic to going to the polls group.

We should fight like hell to make it a landslide but the polls published right now are only there to drive engagement. Democrats have outperformed the polls by 5-10pts in every election since 2020.

ashok36 ,

He literally matches every single description of the anti christ and they line up for him (which, again, is a sign of the AC).

ashok36 ,

A preference cascade by consumers leading to a death spiral.

Watch for tesla to spin off the vehicle business soon and refocus on batteries / energy going forward.

ashok36 ,

Apparently Anna Paulina Luna says if the motion to vacate hits the floor several Republicans will immediately resign, giving the house to the dems. Honestly, that’s probably the best thing the Republicans could do. The dems would have to pass legislation immediately enshrining reproductive rights into law or they’d look like chumps. That would energize the conservative base and depress the liberal vote. The Republicans intend to institute one party rule if they win the presidency and rule by fiat. If they have to accept six months of abortion being legal in order to go full Handmaid’s Tale, I think they would take that bargain.

ashok36 ,

There’s no way they’d expand the court. They don’t have the votes in the senate. Voting rights laws maybe but I wouldn’t count on it.

ashok36 ,

Manchin is also retiring so you might be able to bribe him into voting for good stuff. Sinema will fuck us over just because though. It’s her kink.

ashok36 ,

Just a reminder that if trump is elected, he will reverse this immediately only because Biden did it.

That’s not speculation. That’s a godamn fact.

ashok36 ,

You realize you’re inside the circus right? Burning it down quite probably means you and everyone you know burns to death too right?

ashok36 ,

Or they make a copy of your phone, alphanumeric password and all, and just sit on it for ten years until quantum computers make solving the password a piece of cake.

You should assume that any device confiscated by authorities will be copied and broken into eventually. Treat all data on said device as if it’s already compromised.

ashok36 ,

I’m in the beta with my wife and cousin. It works great so far. I was able to try out dragons dogma 2 from the cousins account, remember why I hated dd1, and promptly un-installed it.

ashok36 ,

The question is, at that price can you really afford not to?

ashok36 ,

Hopefully, home assistant will get big enough that they will be impossible to ignore. With an estimated 1 million installs currently running worldwide, they’re probably not there yet. At 5m though? Probably. 10m? Definitely.

They’ve mostly got the hardware right now and are developing more. A more mobile friendly and noob friendly unboarding process is really all they need.

ashok36 ,

Their biggest risk right now is doing something to lose the trust of the community. Most users have zero money actually invested in home assistant, as opposed to something like Alexa and Google home. That makes it a lot easier to jump ship to an alternative. I think that’s a big part of why they’ve started the foundation.

ashok36 ,

What a stupid take. This is just DARE propaganda.

Consuming cannabis is not a gateway to other drugs. Needing to have regular contact with a drug dealer that wants to sell you more addictive drugs is the gateway. It’s that fucking simple.

ashok36 ,

I honestly can’t tell if you are pro or anti time zones from this comment.

ashok36 ,

Didnt the bell tower shooter in Texas use a bolt action rifle?

ashok36 ,

That’s why you run a couple rounds of preclear to stress them and then run a fresh smart report.

ashok36 ,

I’ve done the tape thing before. It was a little bit of a pain but not that hard.

ashok36 ,

My wife has played me some of the songs. The music is fine, if boring, but the lyrics… Amateurish would be the the kindest word I could use. I know pop musicians aren’t known for deep meaningful lyricism but Beyonce sounds like a middle schooler that did her poetry assignment the night before it was due. It’s honestly atrocious.

Even the covers are kinda bad too, at least to me. Your mileage may vary on those. At least the guitar on Jolene is pretty good.

Exclusive: Tesla scraps low-cost car plans amid fierce Chinese EV competition (www.reuters.com)

The decision represents an abandonment of a longstanding goal that Tesla chief Elon Musk has often characterized as its primary mission: affordable electric cars for the masses. His first “master plan”, opens new tab for the company in 2006 called for manufacturing luxury models first, then using the profits to finance a...

ashok36 ,

In fairness, tesla is not just a car company. Batteries and solar are a significant and growing part of their business.

Their plan was always to popularize evs and then sell batteries to Ford, Chevy, and all the others.

ashok36 ,

I think you’re incorrect. They, in partnership with Panasonic, make a ton of cells at their Nevada gigafactory. They have five more gigafactories where they make other components like motors, batteries, photovoltaic cells, etc…

I also think “easily” is pulling a lot of weight in your sentence there. Scaling up battery pack production to hit manufacturing goals in the next 10 or so years is going to be difficult for anyone attempting it.

All that said, fuck Musk I wish he’d take a ride to Mars already.

ashok36 ,

If they weren’t already heading towards the bin, there’s no way they would seriously consider this. So, yeah. Enjoy your black screens where the ads “should” be in a few years when roku goes tits up.

ashok36 ,

You’ve added nothing to this conversation.

ashok36 ,

Sounds like the unemployment insurance website here in Florida. I had to use it during covid and it was one of the singularly worst experiences of my life.

ashok36 ,

Obama could get away with telling potential voters to get over themselves. Clinton has none of the cachet that Obama or even Biden to a less extent has. She should be embarrassed to show her face in public at this point.

Court Bans Use of 'AI-Enhanced' Video Evidence Because That's Not How AI Works (gizmodo.com)

A judge in Washington state has blocked video evidence that’s been “AI-enhanced” from being submitted in a triple murder trial. And that’s a good thing, given the fact that too many people seem to think applying an AI filter can give them access to secret visual data.

ashok36 ,

Digital zoom is just cropping and enlarging. You’re not actually changing any of the data. There may be enhancement applied to the enlarged image afterwards but that’s a separate process.

ashok36 ,

This is the only step. If trump is elected he and his cronies will remove, up to and including outright murder, all of his enemies. The only judges and “representatives” left will be ones scared enough or craven enough to do whatever Trump and his masters want. There will be no democracy after Trump if elected.

ashok36 ,

Make that a sample size of two. I wanted a tesla as soon as my current car gives out but I won’t go anywhere near them now because of Musk. I know there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism but giving money to Musk is a bridge too far for me.

I still hope SpaceX succeeds despite him though.

ashok36 ,

Sacred implies supernaturality. Since that isn’t actually a thing, nothing is sacred. It’s as valid for one person to say they think something is not sacred as it is for someone to say they think it is.

At the end of the day, the argument should be that it is unique and should be preserved because of its uniqueness. That’s a much more palatable and understandable position to take.

ashok36 ,

Less than Jake sold a shirt with one of the poison album covers on it but with their name instead. I remember lots of bands doing similar shirts at the time. I had more than a few butt rock lovers try to get a conversation going about how cece demille was so awesome before I even realized what the shirt was mocking.

ashok36 ,

The access to Spotify is also super easy. I was in bands and unless you were already popular or had a record deal, getting your CD in stores was almost impossible. I managed to get my bands CD into all the hot topic stores in my state but it was a huge undertaking for a 20 year old kid that just wanted to play music and knew nothing about getting upc codes and negotiating margin and managing inventory.

When Spotify came around I was able to put my music up with about an hours worth of work which was mostly entering banking details, uploading the songs and artwork, and writing a blurb.

I honestly want to start a record label just to put all the local bands I used to play with up on Spotify. Most of them broke up just before the barriers to entry fell down and now the music is lost forever.

ashok36 ,

I’m on my neighborhood development district board. It’s boring, mostly thankless, and pays just over nothing. The only reason I do it is to prevent the crazy assholes from taking office and fucking everything up.

ashok36 ,

A guy at work showed me the footage on his phone. Whatever shit news site he was pulling from had the headline, “DEI focus by The transportation department under Pete buttigiege results in bridge collapse”.

They didn’t even wait half a day to start lying.
