Workers at companies that tested out a 4-day workweek are happier and more efficient — and firms made more money. One lawmaker says it's 'here to stay.' (news.yahoo.com)

Workers at companies that tested out a 4-day workweek are happier and more efficient — and firms made more money. One lawmaker says it’s ‘here to stay.’::The latest data shows that workers and companies prosper under a four-day workweek. Rep. Mark Takano wants to make it law.

The problem is separating out the work that does rely on hours worked vs ones that don’t.

Running a stamping machine? Yeah, your run time is going to be pretty much proportional to your output.

Working a desk job doing research and generating reports? The better you are at it, the more you can do, and eventually you just outrun the workload. Then you shit twiddling your thumbs for no reason.

For Twitter at least, he doesn’t have shareholders. He has investors, many of whom would like nothing more than for Twitter to die so that their citizens can’t use it to coordinate political action against their regime.

Tesla was so swamped with complaints about driving ranges that it created a secret team to cancel owners’ service appointments, source says::To suppress the volume of complaints the automaker created a secret “Diversion Team” in Las Vegas to cancel appointments, Reuters reported.

Yeah, it seems like using ‘miles’ as an indicator or energy left is the root cause. If they just change the kwh left or similar they’d be more accurate but, ironically, confuse way more people.

ashok36 ,

That’s part of my point. kWh isn’t very useful to most people. The problem is that ‘miles left’ is an abstraction from kWh which is more helpful but less accurate.

Now people are complaining that it’s not accurate, which it was never going to be in the first place. It’s a UX problem. They should probably just change to a percentage based readout with a “Estimated Miles Remaining” option for those that want it.

The end goal is to have a completely separate educational system free from federal overview.

“Pretty soon people won’t accept Florida university degrees.”

That’s missing the point. New York and California may not accept them but Texas and Alabama will. These cretins need a way to keep their kids from running away to “liberal shit holes” so they’re going to keep them ignorant and useless for anything more than basic factory and warehouse work.

Long term planning? Competing with emerging powers? Who has time for that? They expect the world to end any day now. Fuck it.

The right wingers and their former president literally attempted a coup. Yes, they are idiots and did a shit job of planning and preparing and trump lost his nerve but they still tried it.

ashok36 ,

And their fans don’t give a shit. I’ve lurked on some Facebook posts about this in the last week and I want to barf.

ashok36 ,

What do you even call posts on X.com? Twitter had tweets. X has… What?

Twitter as a name was pretty much perfect. It explained the entire platform in a word. Musk thinks he can turn it into a WeChat for the English speaking world and that’s just not going to happen.

ashok36 ,

There is a flaw in your logic. Cops hate people that know their rights more than anybody. The sooner you assert your rights, the faster they misbehave. After all, it’s not like there will ever be an consequences for them.

The HA android app just passed one million active devices. Saying “Ha is already not working today.” might be true for you but it’s obviously not true across the board.

ashok36 ,

You spent four paragraphs describing your unusual and unique set up and then asserted that your setup isn’t actual either of those things. I think you just don’t realize how out of the norm your requirements are.

ashok36 ,

And if this is a promo pic for the tour, wouldn’t advertising the band with a member that won’t be there inaccurate marketing?

These guys aren’t writing music anymore. They’re going out and (mostly) playing to backing tracks and hamming it up for the crowd. The crowds know what they’re getting and don’t give a shit. Fools, money, soon to be parted, all that.

Great name! Matters of taste aside, I think the old name would have painted the project into a corner in lots of ways. I will definitely be watching this with interest. Is there a /c I can sub to yet for news?

There’s lots of EA games in particular that can’t be bought on PC anymore. The old Tony Hawk Underground and Tiger Woods Golf games are probably the best examples I can think of.

Even if he was killed by cluster bombs, so what? He’s a Russian on Ukraine soil. That doesn’t make him a combatant per she, but it doesn’t make him a innocent bystander either.

I’ve been using it for maybe a year now and it’s been rock solid. Highly recommended.

For real. One of the most disappointing experiences of my life was the first time I tried In N Out. I took a couple bites, sat back, and just thought, “That’s it? That’s what everyone thinks is a great burger? What the fuck is wrong with everyone?”

ashok36 ,

To be fair, if you’re getting food poisoning from someone preparing your food it’s probably not the end covered by the mask that’s the problem.

This is the case still with Spotify, apple music, deezer, etc… Multiple services with few if any exclusives means almost all music piracy has stopped. Somehow, the record companies continue to survive.

Why is Linux so frustrating for some people?

Don’t get me wrong. I love Linux and FOSS. I have been using and installing distros on my own since I was 12. Now that I’m working in tech-related positions, after the Reddit migration happened, etc. I recovered my interest in all the Linux environment. I use Ubuntu as my main operating system in my Desktop, but I always end...

ashok36 ,

This. I get a wild hair every couple years to daily drive Linux and there’s always something small but crucial that breaks within a day or so and there’s no way for me, a relative novice, to fix it.

Example: I picked up a old ThinkPad on ebay last year. I put Ubuntu on it and after a day or two the wifi just stops working. No error messages. Nothing. I tried digging into the settings via ui with no luck. Googling didn’t help because I couldn’t tell what was helpful, unhelpful, or would have been helpful but is five years out of date.

After a few days of trying to make it work, I just threw on windows and haven’t had any issues since.

I can’t speak for Slackware itself but Unraid is based on Slackware and has been very successful. I’ve been running it for several years now with few hiccups.

Johnson and Johnson attempts to sacrifice millions of lives by restricting life saving tuberculosis drug (www.youtube.com)

“Multidrug resistant tuberculosis is a growing threat, and bedaquiline is essential to curing it. Generic bedaquiline will drive down the cost of the drug by over 60%, allowing far more communities to access and distribute treatment. Evergreening the patent will cost so many lives over the next four years, which Johnson &...

They had 20 years. At some point, you stop asking corporations to do things and start making them do things. 20 years seems like a reasonable place to start.

Everyone 30 and under at my office prefers Macs, to the point of bringing in their own machines to do 90% of their work and falling back to the Windows laptops issued by IT for the remainder.

ashok36 ,

This is going to make it impossible for any technical help communities to take root. The fact that the whole thing can just go poof completely turns me off from using something like that.

ashok36 ,

The internet is still young.

In what world is 40 years “young”?

ashok36 ,

Any random person is at least a hundred times more ethical than mark Zuckerberg.

ashok36 ,

Good. People should delete all of their Meta accounts.

It seems a bit like:

“You hired a cop!”

“Ok, So?”

“Fire them!”

“No…?”

“FASCISTS!”

I’m not a fan of cops either but this just seems really silly.

Lemmy does not currently allow for instance or user migration.

This should probably be high up on the list of additions. I like the idea of Lemmy but for things like getting support no one is going to use Lemmy if the entire community and all the posts can just disappear one day and all the history go poof.

If they cared about that, they would make a law that forces all newborns and their ‘parents’ to submit to a DNA test before issuing a certificate. This is just being done to make it harder for LGBTQ+ parents to have the same rights and responsibilities as straight parents. Not being named on your kid’s birth certificate makes things so much harder when dealing with government programs and even enrolling in school or taking them to the doctor.

For reddit at least, The money from VCs dried up. They have to monetise fast or go broke.

Elon way way way overplayed for Twitter and the company is hemorrhaging money paying the loans he took out to pay for the purchase.

Google in general is in decline. Ad sales are down as the net becomes SEO’d to death. Marketing teams just aren’t willing to pay for Google ads like they used to since the roi isn’t there anymore.
